More BooMan diaries! 🙂
right now. Once we’re really moving, I’ll have time to write myself. But thanks. Keep it coming Carnacki.
You have built it – they will come. </bad costner imitation>
Well-proportioned dancing girls, perhaps?
Is yours not working?
for stupidity unfitting for the frog.
For me and my fellow lame-o’s. (I couldn’t find the Suggestion Diary, so the BOOMAN put up a new one even I could locate. Thanks, dude.)
On the ratings thing: not there whether I scroll up or down. Is there for multiple ratings (on the bottom). Not really an issue, I was mainly curious if it was your intent.
and it was fixed for me. I’ll look into it.
Sooo not a priority as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for the response. My curiosity has been answered.
Could we have e-mail address displayed only in the profile?
Less potential for hate or offensive mail down the line – trolls will show up sooner or later.
i think we can do that. i kinda wanted that anyway.
The program didn’t recognize the break between the intro and extended text screens. I put a paragraph above and a few below but the screen looked like I’d put the whole thing above.
Otherwise I’m cool. I’m feeling comfortable splashing in a small pond.
Because there are more Button boxes on the top of our Home Pages than at dkos, I would suggest a small change in format…possibly a spacing between the buttons and the top Diary.
thx.
I’m having a hard time explaining myself today…
To my eyes, the top of the front page is a bit cluttered with all the button boxes…don’t get me wrong..I love the Regional ones. But, a small spacing between them and the first diary, or a title placed there to separate, even a decorative line, would make my visual transition to the diaries nicer.
I hesitated to even make a suggestion, because you’ve done such a great job, and already improved this site beyond dkos…
I’ll consider that. And don’t hesitate.
This site is being built for you and for other Kossacks (and newcomers too of course, and who better to ask what improvements to make?
This site will improve as much as I can make it improve.
Are non-troll rated comments getting hidden by accident? Not a TU so I can’t tell.
Great site BooMan. Don’t want you to think I don’t see it that way.
ratings below a ‘4’ that have been passed out were by me and some test-runners before the site even opened. So there are no hidden comments.
I gotta look into when you all will start becoming trusted members. I trust you though.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I appreciate it.
I’ve got 3 comments showing as hidden now. Had 4 earlier.
Basta! Enough with the nitpicky crap. I’m just glad to be here.
that happened to me too Boo. It’s fine now but was a bit surprised when two comments came up hidden. I mean jeez, I’m such a pussycat when it comes to comments..hah! I am loving this site all in all though. Keep up the great work.
Reposting this at Boo’s request:
Boo…I’m glad I stumbled upon this site a couple of days ago. Should be interesting times here.
I do have an observation though…about font sizes in the text of the diaries. When I am not logged into the site and open up a diary that goes into the extended text box, teh font size of the text is all the same. But when I log in and view that same diary, the text in the extended text part is smaller than the first part of the diary. I am on a mac, but I have tested this with Camino, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer and I’m getting the same thing each time. It’s only when I’m logged in though, that this is happening.
I don’t know if any others are experiencing this, but if they are, reply here and let me know. The different text sizes are kind of distracting and I’m not sure why this is happening either. If others are having this happen to them too, I would advise you, Mr. Boo, to keep all the font sizes the same. It’s easier on the eyes. I can post a screenshot if you need me to, just let me know.
I just noticed something else too.
Over at kos, the Fri Mar 18th, 2005 at 11:01:02 PM EST part of the comment you can click on and link to easily. Here, there’s nothing like that. I see that if you mouse over the Subject of the comment, it acts like a hyperlink, but it’s not really a link. Perhaphs that was supposed to be the link back to the comment? Well, anyway, I think it would be a good idea to have something like kos has with clicking the timestamp to link back to a comment.
I was thinking the same thing an hour ago.
And I can’t believe you did a re:asdf.
I got more where that came from.
Seriously though, I find the Re: Whatever subject lines to be a little redundant and distracting. That’s just me though, and I can live with it if you don’t want to change it. But personally I think it’s kinda annoying to se Re: all over the place. But, hey, it’s your site.
it seems the longer you are here the more you like it…but the vote was narrowly to remove it.
I’m looking into making it a user preference, because over 40% like it.
Well, I guess I’ll live with it a little and see what happens.
Or is their already a way to do that and I’m just missing it?
I meant newest to oldest.
your comment preferences.
I knew I was probably missing it.
What is the signature behavior for? Does it allow the signature you had when you posted a comment to remain with the comment?
And just one more – is it possible to have a flag of some sort (like the number of new responses) next to the users comment tab?
I really like the look and feel of the site, I’m sure it will do great.
I quite like this site… it’s inviting and not at all intimidating (yet) cuz there are fewer people. And, of course the frog… yes, the frog… well, the frog. Best frog ever!
I was reading through your faq to see what the purpose of the site was, so that I could offer suggestions… one of the things you mention is a sort of oppo research, and keeping the light on republicans and all that. One idea may be another tab up top (or somewhere) that is like a ‘memory hole’ repository, for stories that need another look, or which haven’t come to fruition yet, but which bear watching.
One could always make a diary, but diaries slip off pages, and also some people might not want to do a diary, but wouldn;t mind posting a quick tip or comment on a particular topic, that someone else could expand on, or do research on.
Great site, and you’re definitely off to a good start.
thinking of allowing people to pick a subject for their diaries.
From a pull-down menu. And then I would have sectional diary pages where you could find all the ‘education’ diaries, for example.
You think we could use that feature for what your talking about?
In fact, that would be even better, because it would be categorized to some extent. There is so much information (and analysis) that flows through these sites, something like that would be perfect for someone to pull together all the posts on that one topic, for research.
I wasn’t aware that feature was available, but it might be something to try out, see how it works.
we can rig it up using the sections feature.
For instance, if I want to post something so it only shows up in the West thread I can do that.
I’ll look into whether we can get around a couple of technical issues with using sections for regular users and how much code it would take to build.
I think we can do it though, if y’all remember the click on those ads every once in a while 🙂
and clicked every one of them! And will do so daily (I wish the attorney guy had more info on his though).
Strict laws about advertising your legal services. E-mail him if you want, he’s one of best buddies.
*it’s okay if you’re a republican
In another life I used to spend time at a place where this was a regular feature: IOKIYAR
Pointing out grotesque republican hypocrisy can be fun and educational, not to mention there’d be no shortage of material. *IOKIYAR would definitely be a tab which would get some action.
I think I read about this before here, but I can’t remember where.
How come when I receive one rating, I can’t click the rating link thing and see who rated me? Can this be changed easily?
post text boxes. Like those here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/14/15154/0755. Pretty colorful text boxes.
I have a diary waiting in Word that has these text boxes (and needs them) that I would love to post here. But when I preview it, all those lovely text boxes and all my careful formatting disappears into a format mess and I don’t have the heart to post it. I previewed the same diary in my account at dkos and thought I could just post it up as is here, but <sob> I find that I can not do it.<sob> I need my colorful text boxes. Please booman wan kenobi, you’re my only hope.
Maryscott will have my ass. What code are you using so I can enable it?
Here is the code I’ve been using, which ironically enough, I got from Maryscott.
Of course, () is substituted for <>
(div style=”background color:#ff6666;padding:24px;margin-left:24px;margin-right:24px;margin-top:24px;margin-bottom:24px;wid
th:600px;border-width:thick;border-style:double;border-color:#ff6666″)
(/div)
You will have my undying gratitude. I love your site!
I have a HTML code that I use to open a link into another window and it won’t work in here. The code is:
(a href=”” target=”_blank”)(/a)
I put my link in between the “” and the target in between the )(. It says that this is not allowed in preview.
I learned how to do all this stuff in dKos and these are hard codes to give up. HTML codes: crack for geeks.
Thanks.
will work through this diary soon. Keep the suggestions coming. This site will soon be super deluxe.
I have no doubt of that at all. That you’re soliciting for ideas and tracking the bugs tells me this will be a very successful site, if it isn’t already. That you answered immediately tells me you never sleep. (Am I right?)
Just tried to view a diary in dynamic threaded and still not opening on the down arrows. The way DT works in kos is perfect – down arrow opens it below the master comment and not into another page. When you double down arrow (double dog dare?) it opens into a nested view on a per comment basis. But, the best part of DT is when you give mojo; it happens immediately – no more “rate all”. A mega time saver.
Hate me yet?
I posted this on another thread but not sure if someone got it. The site is improving daily..Congrats…However…When I look at the front page..especially right now…I can’t tell where the Main Page Diaries Begin…The black block letter are all blending in together. You will see..it looks like all the Sunday Morning talk show are separte diaries. Even if they weren’t there, the Main Page diaries with the updates look so confusing to me. I think you need to figure out a way to have the Main page diary Title POP..so it is easy to see the Diary titles that are new to people or others that people want to take another look at. Just to much black box letter titles on Main Diary page. It just seems to make it hard to find the individual Main Page diaries.
and pretzels for the Republican visitors?
and pretzels for the Republican visitors?
Mr. Booman, how do I edit my own comments ex post facto?
This is just an aesthetic thing…
I love the green everywhere but I think the standard blue “blockquote” box clashes with it… I think one of the light red html colors would go better with the green.
Everything else, including the suggestion for Diary categories and the auto “re:” subject lines, I like!
