Meteor Blades has suffered a tragedy in his family. His sister-in-law has died. He has posted a very touching account of what happened, what he has been going through, his thoughts on death and afterlife, and how he feels about the outpouring of support he has felt.
Without regaining consciousness, she died in that trite way of hundreds of thousands of human beings in the past century – after being struck by an out-of-control drunk driver…
Veronica’s daughter survived with scratches. My wife is abundantly banged up – with several broken bones including nose, teeth, fingers, arms and ankles – but no organ damage and an excellent prognosis. Platinum pins and rehab will make her good as new in a while. Or so the docs say. She missed Veronica’s funeral, but she’ll mend.

My thoughts are with him.
Even in difficult circumstances, he writes. And he writes well and true.
This is, as MB notes, a strange world of anonymity and intimacy. I’ve never met Meteor Blades, but I have.
My thoughts as well.
Thank you Booman for the link. His writing as always is eloquent, lean and pure. Anything else I say would sound trite.
I do believe though I will adopt the Hopi prayer as my own.
Prayers to MB and his family in this time of tragedy. Continued well wishes for his wife’s recovery and his niece.
Blessings to all.
What a sad way to end the day. Prayers and serenity to MB and his family, and to all others out there in the midst of pain and sorrow.
Our thoughts and love go out to MB and his family in this difficult time.
His eulogy for his sister-in-law was tragic and it
showed him to be so dignified and gracious.
It was only little over a week ago when he was joking around for April Fools Day about Armando’s fake farewell.
My deepest sympathies to Meteor Blades and his family. A speedy recovery to your wife. You are deeply missed MB.
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Take care of your family, and let them take care of you.
Those we love are with us always, in our memories, something in the smiles, eyes, of their children, and in the lives of every one they touched. The things that made them laugh, the things they said that made us think, the foods, music, colors they couldn’t get enough of, and those they hated. Even those distant ancestors whose names you don’t know are with you, a crooked toe, a stubborn spirit, an uncharacteristic and inexplicable love of woodworking, gardening, taking things apart, even without memory they are there.
The Hopis are smart folks. Maybe one day you and your wife can take Veronica’s little girl to meet them, and she can discover another part of her mother’s spirit.
Thank you, MB, for letting us all know … I can tell you that many, many of us have been asking and wondering. I’m so sorry for your and your family’s loss. Thank god you’re there for your wife and stepson. You’re much loved by so many people.
Veronica is another name for Speedwell, a so-called common plant, which grows widely. Some call it a weed; I prefer to think of it as a prolific wildflower. It is delicate, softly colored, and very hardy. See it here and here.
I will think of Veronica’s spirit abroad in the fields and meadows this spring, bringing small bits of beauty to the world.
Namaste, Meteor.
