Or “love bomb” him as my friends say. We can contact Senator George V. Voinovich to thank him for his stand yesterday. What I wrote to him below the fold:
What I sent him:
Thank you for your sensible stand in yesterday’s committee meeting. I sat in my home in Port Angeles, WA, riveted by the seeming impasse until you spoke, quietly, respectfully, and sensibly on the nomination of John Bolton. You’re a embodiment of the ideals of the American democracy.
He deserves a thank you for his stand yesterday.
Yet, I still want to see how this plays out before I heap the praise on too thick.
Regardless, I am grateful that he stood up to Lugar and a very important moment.
Yes, I just sent an email of appreciation for his sensible stand. I am however with you Boo, let’s see how this plays out. One needs to keep all fingers and toes crossed but it sure is looking good at this point.
Ok Susan, did that. But like Boo and aloha will hope for the best now and see how this all plays out, with my fingers, toes and eyes crossed.
Here’s the text of what I sent him:
Dear Senator Voinovich:
I wanted to thank you for standing up for the integrity of the Foreign Relations Committee yesterday, April 19, 2005. I watched the hearing on John Bolton’s U.N. Ambassadorship hearing on cspan.org and was appalled to learn that the Chairman was going to force the vote, essentially silencing the opinions of nearly half the committee. Thank you for having the courage to call for patience and scrutiny with this nomination.
Susan T, a Democratic party activist in Michigan just wrote this by e-mail:
Here’s an update. I read on DU that Senator Voinovich’s office is being BOMBARDED with negative phone calls from the “right”. Apparently, that’s probably a big mistake, on their part, because Senator Voinovich can be very “negatively influenced” by being bombarded with these phone calls. It’s said he very much “prizes his independence”. So, let the righties do their worst and we stick to emails with positive subject lines. Maybe we can recruit another from the dark side.
When I wrote Senators Kerry, Biden, Dodd and Boxer, I mentioned that I had also thanked Senator Voinovich. (Senator Boxer has a thank you to him on her web site.)
