…It’s the second time this year that Bush has turned to his brother for an important administration duty on the global stage. In January, the president sent the Florida governor to Asia alongside then-Secretary of State Colin Powell to survey the devastation from the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami.
Such moves have spurred talk that Jeb Bush, despite denials, plans to run for president in 2008 and that his brother is helping him add to his credentials in international affairs.

Will the nightmare never end?
Doncha remember as mommy & daddy Bush were impatiently waiting for the 2000 presidential votes to be counted and uncounted they had an interview on CNN. They said
“Jeb is the one the watch.”
It’s a done deal. And i bet he’ll win.
i have friends who think he will be undone by some scandals, including his infidelities, but i don’t think so — Karl can handle any problem.
Oh Susan, no! Do you mean done deal as in Diebold? Because I honestly think most Americans — in both parties — would reject the smack of monarchy that another Bush in the WH would represent.
Worse than Diebold. Jeb will come across as a genius compared to George, and people will go for him. Hope I’m wrong. Hope.
The new Republican Energy Bill has done me in…
In a word, NO.
I have been worried about Jeb, recalling that he went to visit the tsunami disaster area (though not, to my knowledge, any victims). I wondered why a sitting governor had any business there. And what did the people of Florida (on of those bigger, more populous states with a lot of stuff going on, maybe requiring the governor’s attention) think of that?
And we here in Dallas have George III (irony on) spouting off, though he is only a wet-behind-the-ears, just-passed-the-bar-not-too-long-ago young attorney, giving opinions on Terri Schiavo on yer tee-vee nooz recently.
Blecchhh, this clan makes me retch and gag.
That’s the plan.
The $64000 question is – President of what?
The US as a viable entity does not have a very cheery prognosis.
From a January article in the San Diego Union Tribune:
The governor repeatedly insists that he has no interest in seeking the White House in 2008, when his brother cannot be on the ballot again. And in an interview on ABC, the president said of his brother: “I don’t think he’s interested in running.” When his own term is over in 2006, Jeb Bush says, he will “go back to Miami and figure out what I’m going to do. But it isn’t going to be running for president. I promise.”
Actually, it makes good political sense to sit back until the reviews of President Bush’s second term come in. If Bush has fumbled his domestic agenda, the economy is sagging and an unending war in Iraq is increasingly unpopular, Bush fatigue may be overwhelming. That would not be a good time for the Republicans to field their third Bush.
Let’s hope that “Bush fatigue” is so intense the whole family has to move out of the country.
I know you’re called the Booman, but this post makes me wonder if I’m ever going to wake up from the nightmare! Excuse me while I renew my passport. 🙂
That might not be enough anymore. I’m thinking of just getting an Italian one instead.
You never know.
I’ve said it from day one, two terms for Big Brother, then Lil’ Bro will take up the throne. Keep your eye on the ball here.
Are you trying to ruin my weekend?!?!?
