I don’t know about where you are today, but here in Penntucky, it’s been a gorgeous day: sun-dappled and mild (about 60°), with a crisp breeze blowing through the trees.
You couldn’t ask for a better Mayday.
So nontheists forgive me, but I can’t think of a better way to frame this thread than the old hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth”.
If you know the tune (Dix), you’ll know you can enjoy the song, religious or not.
Brothers and sisters, let’s sing:
For the beauty of the earth,
for the splendor of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
over and around us lies,
- Lord* of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise
For the wonder of each hour
of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light,
- Lord* of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise
For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild,
- Lord* of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise
For the good that love inspires,
for a world where none exclude,
For a faith that never tires,
and for every heart renewed,
- Lord* of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise
*I kept “Lord” because I think it works better with the text, but you can also use “God” or “Source”. Adapted from The New Century Hymnal.
Update: Forgot to say: “Kalo Pascha! Christos anesti!” My apologies to the Orthodox.
Also, check out this diary by a particular newbie, and lavish praise, love, 4s and recommends on her.
