What are you doing for hosting? Do you run a line to your house and have a server, or do you pay a hosting site that specializes in scoop hosting? If it’s a scoop hosting company, who? And approx how much / month? –M
Most server companies support Apache, which is all you need. You can get a host for about $125-150 bucks a month, with 2000 GB of bandwidth. Try serverbeach.com.
Wait. Aren’t you running mysql as a backend and apache+mod perl+scoop? Don’t you need root on the box, or does your hosting site handle all that for you? –M
Question: If you were just looking to host content and wanted to advertise with google ads or something, would you run scoop or would you hand code a template and serve the page statically?
check it out. I think it’d make for a terrific discussion here and on dK. I’d put it in a diary but… no time…
Subject in brief: a report from the future on the evolution of news coverage on the net & the demise of news, as we know it. Interactivity, blogs, google, friendster, amazon & more are the means.
Is it sci fi?
I really think folks here will like it. I’d go on and on, but no time…
The Black Commentator is a great source of news/articles(and as I mentioned before some incredible art work) that I would never get from basically the white media…I’ve been reading it for several years and highly recommend to everyone.
Kinda hard to make Thomas look worse than he does to me but this cartoon managed to do it..Almost creepy enough to scare the pants off you.
As for Brown, she is one whacko looney tune-so of course she is one of bush’s picks who he is going to resubmit. One of her big rants is that The New Deal has got to go because it basically turned this country into socialism. She’s not what you call progressive, more like stone age. And I hate to admit she’s on the bench here in Ca.

This is quite a story, and may explain the House of Saud’s influence over US politics. News to me, but not totally tin-foil territory.
According to a new book exclusively obtained by the Huffington Post, Saudi Arabia has crafted a plan to protect itself from a possible invasion or internal attack. It includes the use of a series of explosives, including radioactive “dirty bombs,” that would cripple Saudi Arabian oil production and distribution systems for decades.
I don’t have anything to do with this company, Progressive Techs, except they do host one of my sites. But they do make hosting available to new sites like blogs and such, for free, under a certain amount of visitors and bandwidth. 1 million per month or something like that. MySql databases and all that as well.
Anyway, I’m not trying to do an ad or anything, but it’s something to keep in mind if anyone is looking to start a new something or other to advance the progressive/democratic etc movement and politics, but don’t have the startup costs right away. There are other instances as well, people making various tools and such and providing them to progressive communities. I love seeing stuff like this, because there is such a determination to change things, and a willingness among people to give of their time and talents to do so.
Of course, what we really need are the deep pocket big name folks to start funding some of this grassroots stuff.

That is the most hideous creature that I’ve seen since Robert Bork was nominated.
She is totally out of her mind! I have a hard time understanding how she can be judged as qualified in any way. Ugh, just…ugh.

check with the hosting company. You can preconfigure it on your own server and then transfer it.

I wouldn’t use Scoop for just posting content. It’s for building communities. At least, that is why I use it.
The ads are really not going to work any differently no matter which way you go, but I’m not sure I really understand your question.
You can email me if you want more info.
I never know if open threads are read regularly or not by most people. I do. But then, I’m wierd.
Anyway, here’s my reason for posting:

I have a friend who says “au contrare,” Ms. Huffington. I’ll see if I can get him to come over here.
