A team of artists in Lisbon has “produced the flags campaign which has been circulating the Earth in chain letters via e-mail and in the “Revista Grande Reportagem,” a “Hard Journalism magazine,” says 25-year-old artist Icaro Doria:
The campaign has been running in Portugal since January 2005. There are eight flags that portray very current topics like the division of opinions about the war in Iraq in the United States, the violence against women in Africa, the social inequality in Brazil, the drug trafficking in Columbia, Aids and malaria in Angola, etc.

Visit the artists’ site to see more flags.
Note: I had to crop these images so that, when I reduced their size to the 400px maximum width, less clarity would be lost. You can see the flags in their proper dimensions at the link above.
Clever IM (instant messaging). Art DOES save lives (my bumpersticker).
These images make an imprint on our minds.
If you think so, Sybil, that’s indeed praise. I respect your views on art.

Mine too.
Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention! What a great idea!
that’s a neat way to make a point. Each flag makes a startling observation.
It’s cool must to imagine one.
Just wanted to mention for the record the top flag with the hammer and sickle is the flag of Angola, a former Portuguese colony.
Great Diary!
