How much does a scoop site cost to host?
Are there any turn-key host companies?
I am investigating setting up scoop style sites for congressional districts.
Thanks for your input everyone!
Incedentally, I read in passing a few days ago about Booman being self-supporting at 3000 members. Any information in this context would be useful as well.

Lot of variables. What is your anticipated traffic? Do you want a dedicated server? Do you have to pay a programmer to do maintenence and troubleshoot?
Basic dedicated server costs can be obtained for under $150/month for 2000GB. Look at serverbeach.com.
As for 3000 users, I meant an average of 3,000 visitors a day would be a kind of threshold that would probably lead to a sudden explosion of growth. But I am talking about making a petty living for myself, not being self-supporting. BooTrib is already modestly profitable.

A wonderful milestone.
The BooMan Site Meter is related to time zone, thus in Europe we see a different graph than in US time zones!
European Std Time – Pageviews today hits 12055, a slight increase vs yesterday 11750. The averages took a hit these last two days. But the visits were slightly higher yesterday vs today 3042.
Amazing and congratulations BooMan, keep the fire going.

Well, how big is your site going to be?
I am developing a new product, like Scoop, but implemented in Java, called jScoop.
Right now my hosting costs $25/month for 50 GB of bandwidth. I get 50 databases, and 75 email address.
Like Scoop, jScoop will be free to run. I’m also thinking of hosting people on my site because I’m not using any of my bandwidth, or any of my databases. With that, costs could drop to around $5-$10 a month.
