With gas prices climbing, says the Sierra Club, Detroit has finally caught on, unleashing a rash of ads touting fuel efficiency. The only problem is that they don’t have anything efficient to tout. (They do have highly efficient advertising agencies, however.)
Take the Sierra Club’s quiz about GM’s new mileage claims. (I got one out of four! The shame!)
I got 2 out of 4!
I missed the one on the Hummer. I think that was a TRICK question. Hmmmph.
Yeah, because we’ve all heard the range before. I loved the answer to the first question!
This is a nice break from the abortion wars at kos today-I got called a Santorum supporter on one thread!!
Do tell. I’ve missed out on all those. Seriously, do tell.
I’ve noticed (along with many others) that a certain poster always shows up on the same predictable threads, spewing the same tired lines, and today I asked him just who his employers were. (You’ll see what happened in the link). When I saw his repsonse, I just laughed, knowing it was going to get troll-rated away.
So then, he puts up a sympathy diary to explain himself, and people began to jump all over him in that diary for the Santorum comments and general BS. I found that rather funny. Then the gender-bashing diaries came-from both sides. Now I don’t have the energy to look at any more of those diaries today!
The endless fighting over there lately over whether abortion and women’s rights groups are just ruining the Dems chances at winning elections is disgusting to me. Targeting women to blame for the state of the Democratic party is counterproductive and way over the top. And then, to add insult to injury, some folks are screaming about NARAL supporting a pro-choice Republican candidate over an anti-choice Democrat! If the Dems don’t want to run pro-choice candidates AS PART OF THE PRIMARY PROCESS (okay, this really bugs me because I’m in PA, where they don’t think the voters should be allowed to choose their candidate in a primary!), they shouldn’t cry when they don’t get the support of a single-issue group like NARAL.
End of story and related rant…
Hey CabinGirl, I was really interested in reading what transpired, but both of your links circled back to the front page of this site. (And I remain interested)

I’ve gotten a lot of email about Casey and clearing the field. People are pissed.
My first (and to date only) diary on dKos was related to that very subject. I think the voters in PA should have a choice in the primary, rather than having someone forced on us by a small group of party leaders who don’t even live in this state, and if last year’s election is indication, are out of touch with the people.
I also remember Casey’s father and wasn’t very fond of what he did for reporductive rights in PA, among other things.
through communities like this and Philly For Change.
And please do tell. Susan was inapropriately dog-piled by a few folks over there on that very subject. (And I stand by my position that the T shirts make me cringe)
I should probably say that the choice thing means a lot to me. My 12-year-old was a surprise when I was in my last year of college, and I’m always thankful that I was able to choose the best thing for me, and never had to feel like I was forced into being a parent when I wasn’t ready. I think everyone should have that choice.
I’ve referenced a former MN congressman I admire. In the many years Tim Penny (DFL) served in the house, he consistently voted pro-life. After leaving office, he wrote a book, “The 15 Biggest Lies in Politics” which articulates the pro-choice position better than I’ve ever seen before or since.
What changed his mind? He then had a teenage daughter, and realized that something of that nature is no one’s business outside the family and the doctor, and for anyone but a few, “There but for the grace of God go I”
Me, too. I got the first one, about collective mileage, and the last, on peak CAFE.
Actually, on peak CAFE, Susan should have gotten that one. After all, she’s near Seattle, right? <ducks behind monitor to avoid flying tomatoes>
The other day, Cadillac had an ad for some humongous SUV on Yahoo, with a survey. So I answered very negatively to all questions, and in the comments asked why on god’s green earth any car company was so stupid as to be producing such a monster, et cetera and so forth into a pretty good rant considering the small space available in the little box.
Very therapeutic. I felt much better for it.
3. How does combined mileage rating of the 19 cars in GM’s ad compare to the government’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard for passenger cars?
Incorrect! The right answer is: Yes, believe it or not, it falls short of the government’s already all-too-modest standard of 27.5 mpg. This is something to brag about?
Yeah, why have standards if no one follows tem and they aren’t enforced?
With wild guessing on most every question. . .drum roll please. . .she shoots – she scores from downtown for a 3 pointer and makes an extra point after being fouled. 4 out of 4 (not necessarily a knowledgeable 4 out of 4, but 4 out of 4 nonetheless)
I go four, too. Guess it was a combination of Susan’s intro and a high level of cynicism on my part.
I’m embarrassed to admit that I skipped Susan’s intro – but cynicism definitely played a part in my winning hand.
And I don’t believe the 9-11 mpg for the H1.
I’d postulate 4-6 mpg max comparing it to similar sized and powered trucks I’ve seen.
