Peace.

Hi naralpa, welcome to the site! Make sure to check out the Froggy Bottom Cafe diaries to introduce yourself and get to know some people around the frog pond. I’m in Arizona but would love to check out your coffee house if I’m ever in the Philly area.
Paz.
I’ll have to drop by the next time I’m over that way.
please do! I hang there from time to time myself.
yes, yes – come one, come all… i’d love to have you. just posted re: an event next Thursday to benefit the state NARAL affiliate. please invite friends – it’s going to be a blast! would also welcome the opportunity to meet some fellow forward-thinkers in the area.
p.s. not to toot my own horn, but we just won Best of Philly (coffeehouse) by Philadelphia Magazine, so we’re doing something right and certainly have never shied away from our politics. toot. toot.
New Milford, Connecticut here…
Saw that jdavidson picked this up off of My Left Wing and posted here as well… (I’ll let you read the diary for the full details “NARAL PA to close”, but the short of it is – NARAL Pro-Choice PA has had to close it’s doors in PA, but there’s a fundraiser next week to help them get their doors open… details below):
For those in the Philadelphia area, I’d like to invite you to attend an event I’m hosting next Thursday, August 11th at Mugshots CoffeeHouse (21 st and Fairmount, near the Art Museum) at 7:30pm .
We have an amazing singer/songwriter, Kierstin Gray, who will be playing and all proceeds are to benefit NARAL. We’ll have food, beer/wine, awesome people and kick-ass music. (Tickets are $25/ea or $100 to sponsor for 2 tickets; Tickets can be purchased at Mugshots or online at http://www.prochoicepennsylvania.org – click on “Support Us”)
If you’re not in the Philadelphia area, but care about maintaining a strong pro-choice voice in Pennsylvania, you can still make a contribution through the website or send checks to: PO Box 58174, Philadelphia, PA 19102-8174 .
I go to UConn, myself.

“My view is that marriage should be defined as a relationship between a man and a woman,” Mr. Romney said at a news conference, adding, “I hope that this amendment will ultimately be the one which the citizens have an opportunity to vote on.”
Leave my friends here in Massachusetts alone. They aren’t hurting anything, the sky has not fallen, and people aren’t calling for legalizing marriage to turtles as the wingers feared. What’s happened is that thousands of people who love each other have been granted the dignity of the State’s recognition of their partnerships. Back-off Mr. Mitt!
We all now you’re doing this for the national spot-light. You don’t give a rat’s ass about our state.
Here’s what get’s me. Not only is he a pandering jerk, but by his association with VoteOnMarriage.org he’s inviting the influence of Dobson and Perkins into Massachusetts. You’re right, Willard is a jerk!
romney also has said that we should wiretap all the mosques in massachusetts. and proudly called himself a red-stater.
i wonder if he’s running for president?
Indeed. Introducing myself to this blog, I live in Framingham, home of one of the two AirAmerica stations in Boston.
I commend all of the MA people to check out:
HomeFromIraqNow.org
The web site is a temporary one awaiting design and polish, but the gist is that we are gathering signatures for a ballot initiative to compel the Gov. (whether it be the pandering jerk or someone else) to keep the MA Natl. Guard home once they’ve completed their tours and not send any more “over there.”
We’ve got lots of work to do to gather the sigs before mid-November. All the needed tools are there to download and get to work.
PLEASE HELP US ON THIS.
and for those of you in other states, 24 states also have the intiative process and you can do it too! We’re hoping to start a movement.
Blessings . . .
Welcome RevDeb :o)
I live on the north fork of eastern Long Island, NY. I consider myself more a part of New England than NY, at least that’s how it feels out here.
Good luck in your efforts to protect the Ma. Natl. Guard. I’m going to check your link to see what info I can find on the NY Natl. Guard.
Thanks and again, welcome :o)
RevDeb, the link isn’t working. Maybe you can re-do it?
Lets try this one:

WHO: Anyone interested in protecting the separation of Church and State
WHAT: Rally on the steps, U.S. Supreme Court Building
WHY: Anticipated Ten Commandments display rulings.
WHEN: This Monday, June 20, 2005, 9 a.m.
WHERE: SCOTUS
This rally is in anticipation of a possible decision by the high court in two important cases regarding display of the Ten Commandments and other religious documents/symbols on public property.
The event begins at 9 a.m. (weather permitting) and will include a program of speakers from numerous organizations.
Signs and banners will be provided, or you may bring your own.
The Supreme Court Building is located at One First St., NE in Washington, DC. It is convenient to the METRO system. The Capitol South station is nearby for those traveling on the Blue or Orange Lines. Union Station is about a 5-6 minute walk for those coming in on AMTRAK or the Red Line.
The building is proximate to the Capitol and Library of Congress. There is only limited parking in the area, so consider taking a taxi or the Metro system.
The Court usually announces its decision before noon on Mondays. Attorneys in the pertinent cases receive little or no notice. Sometimes, there is a news story about a forthcoming decision; but no one can guarantee precisely when the court will make a ruling public.
Most observers agree that the decision in the two Ten Commandments cases (Van Order v. Perry, McCreary County v. ACLU of Kentucky) will be announced on either Monday, June 20, or at the end of the current session, Monday, June 27. We are rallying on this coming Monday (6/20) in anticipation of a possible ruling. If the court does not announce its decision on that day, we will likely be back in Washington on the steps of the court the following week.

South Jersey here
(Phila. metro area – about 10 miles from center city Phila.)
Where in s. jersey? I spent my formative years in Cherry Hill.
East or West?
I spent my formative years right across Chapel Ave from West. My parents moved to Woodcrest after we emptied the nest.
Then again, this was long, long ago. When we moved there, it was still Delaware Township. And when I started high school, there was only one CHHS.
NYC here. Well, the village at least.
Eastern Long Island. North Fork to be exact. Previously potato and cauliflower farmland, now the so called “Long Island Wine Country”. Too many Volvo station wagons and Hummers out here now. Not that I have any upper middle class envy issues mind you.
Ah, SW Suffolk County here. Hey, I love an occasional drive out to your neck of the woods–at least when it was still woods and fields. My last drive out there, sometime in winter, it was a shock to see the McMansions and golf courses spreading like an oozing oil slick. In fact, I’ve got to get out there soon for my annual two dripping-butter ears of Harbes roasted corn and some blueberry muffins and a pie from Briermere.
Oh, and if you were driving my 11-yr old Volvo wagon, you wouldn’t be thinking about upper middle class issues–you’d be wondering why the ‘check engine’ light is on all the time.
Ouch 🙂 I’m sorry about the Volvo thing. It’s just a little frustrating being a year rounder and having to deal with those that we are told are the only means of supporting our local economy, i.e. tourists. But listen, if I lived somewhere else on the Island I’d want to come out here too. It seems like the last little piece of a bygone era that we have left so please forgive if we get a little defensive from time to time. As for McMansions, those who build these pseudo hamptons monstrosities are causing the prices to climb far beyond the ability of the average local to keep up with and sadly many are forced to move away seeking an affordable place to live. Long Island is out of control as far as the cost of living goes. It’s almost as if you have to take out a second mortgage to pay the LIPA bill. I’m sure you know this as well as I.
Take care
Believe me, I know exactly what you mean. Dreaded sprawl has hit the North Fork, and it’s a crying shame. I would have loved to move out there, found an old cottage or farm house, and spent my days in a slower, quieter world. I’ve often wondered if the McMansioners think about the fact that their houses are built on land that has had fertilizers and pesticides dumped by the ton for generations. I was really sad to see the guy who was raising buffalo on his farm had left.
As for LIPA, I have no AC, not that many appliances, use energy-saver bulbs, so my bill isn’t bad at all. It’s the gas bill that kills me in winter, even though I set the thermostat to 62. The energy squeeze on heating fuels is what frightens me.

anyone interested in seeing what Santorum’s gotten away with now, please check out my diary.
I’m really pissed. Really.
Since you are said you are really pissed off twice, I’ll read it!
Upstate Zoo York by way of Shaolin! God I must say it’s nice to see a liberal community minus alot of the “I’m Smarter than you” bickering…
Welcome to BooTrib Ronald, good to have you here. Make sure to check out the Welcome Wagon and Froggy Bottom Cafe diaries that pop up from time-to-time to allow the community to meet and greet one another. Paz.
If anyone is a Rude Pundit fan and wants to see his show at the NYC Fringe Fest, I heard that they will probably be adding some more shows since all of his are currently sold out. I think it’s great but I’m helping out so what do I know. However, even Judith Miller’s Times liked it.
One more show this Saturday (and probably another one on Sat, Aug 27).
Rude Pundit dates added
Signing from Boston. When someone upthread mentioned Suffolk (LI) I thought they meant me.
Hi to 495
Hi Peggy from Boston :O)
I’m from eastern suffolk (LI). Did you mean 495, the Long Island Expressway? What a godawful road.
One of the guys I work with is from Lowell and a Sox fan. How ’bout you? Naturally I’m a Yanks fan, but was happy for my friend and all Sox fans that they won it last year. But….this is 2005 and all that friendly stuff is past ;O)
Anyway, welcome, if you’re new, and please take a minute to drop into the Froggy Bottom Cafe to introduce yourself and say hello. I’m sure you’ll be glad you did. There’s some pretty fine people here you know :O)
well 495’s also the boston version of a beltway…
The cool part about 495 is it’ll get you from portsmouth, nh to just about the bourne bridge (which leads to Cuttyhunk woohooo!!)… the areas in between are sometimes suspect (thankfully Hull, MA– er brockton by the sea, is far enough away to not be one of these areas)…
Although if you really wan’t a pretty highway in the northeast you’ll have to jump on I-89
I’ll shut up now
While Nero was fiddling, his ‘wife’ was going Imelda.
