Lynn is a homeschooling mama of two girls, advocate for stay-at-home parents, web developer and fanatic fiber addict who lives in The People's Republic of Southeast Portland, Oregon.
These events are going to keep on happening. McLaughlin Group today discussed the past 3, and one of the speculations was he was doing this somewhat intentionally, either to fire up the base or even to get press.
I won’t try to guess his motive, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spin it, right?
What if your site had a feature like:
You heard:Republicans don’t do honest work
Dean said:< full extended quote, with the nearest literal phrase highlighted/bolded >
You could catalogue each “gaffe”, and use the press generated about it to actually push through the media and give the full story/context and message.
If you decide to go with this, Lynn, I’m sure you’d get a lot of input from folks here and at similar sites. Congrats on the forward thinking about what needs to be done.
diary on the Recommended list for tomorrow. I have to run but I would love to see a quote list of some of Dean’s speeches. The snippets the MSM use do no justice for the energy and empowering themes he advocates.
a spot where people can write something they want/think/feel. . .and then below it a quote from Dean that says that very thing. It would be a way of showing quite literally that Dean Speaks for Me.
Maybe you could have two boxes. . .similar to the first part of diaries and then the extended box. . .with different fonts, or whatever, for so people can see at a glance what the poster said and then what Dean says. (I should provide an example of what I mean, but I’d have to go look up MSOC’s instructions on how to do boxes and I haven’t had my second cup of coffee yet. Besides, if anybody likes this idea, they’ll come up with a better way to do it visually, most likely.)
How about a civic space where people can show off their activism. Like quilters for dean could post pictures of their quilts, and belly dancers for dean could post pictures of their bellies, and people who were protesting could post pictures of their protests….
Letting people brag might encourage others to get involved.
I’m a CivicSpace-based developer (and Drupal–the framework for this new site is already up and it’s Drupal 4.6.1) so sharing info with other sites is a good idea.
I checked it out using FireFox 1.0.4 and the layout was overlapping on the top a bit with the banner when the window is resized smaller. On the right when the window is narrower these words in white sometimes can’t be seen: “home * Dean said it”
Otherwise looks really good and like it will be very informative.
This diary at Kos contains a post by Al Rodgers with photos illustrating just how much people love Dean – maybe you could have a photo wall somewhere on the site:
Everyone’s suggestions are awesome. One more possibility would be a list of media resources that we can contact when Dean is maligned in the press. It would be cool to have newspaper, web, and tv contact info in one place.

“DNC chair Dean says some in GOP don’t live honestly“
Since they have 10’s of millions of members, that statement is certainly true. Of course it’s not what Dean said.
Elsewhere in the article: “…but his line about GOP work habits….”
The words are misportrayed twice and sound-byted out of context once before the proper quotation is given in the 6th paragraph, more than halfway through the 2-column article.
Some excellent ideas here, guys, thanks a lot! I’ll be poking at this bit by bit in the next few weeks; I just finished rolling out a new site for Workers Independent News (the Dow Bob people) and have a bit of time before the next project, whatever it may be.
one of those “Why didn’t I think of that?” moments?
I just did.
Did you get the “.net” and “.org” too? I may be overly paranoid but I can just see a pile of freepers buying them and making sites you wouldn’t want to see.
No, I couldn’t really afford the one I grabbed. If anyone wants to get .net and .org, go ahead and then contact me if you want to point it at what I’ve got.
I wonder if this person (is it Kimmy Cash?) would be open to the idea of having their extensive collection of Dean speeches, interviews and debates (audio for many, as well) mirrored at your site.
I’m dreading the day when something happens and all that treasure trove of information just isn’t there any more.
Keep an Archive of Dean’s quotes, with background and context…
or perhaps a Wiki about the Democratic National Committee…
???
Here’s something to consider:

Damn, thought you bought a Hummer. A big yellow one!
Congrats on the new domain name. I’m sure you’ll think up a very good use of it!!

a link to the “Dean Speaks for Me” petitions (now being offered by Renee in Ohio and others at dkos)
done. That was a minimum. 🙂

Not really worried about narrow window behavior, quite honestly. That Way Lies Madness.
It appears to be fixed now, so is a moot point. 😀

Remember the “Sorry World” picture archive just after the “election”?
I’m thinking, maybe some pictures on Lynn’s site of people who say Dean speaks for them . . .
The site needs a BAT! A really big bat.

Good One.

Good thinking to buy that domain, Lynn. I like the WIN site!
I think the idea upthread about backing up the quotes the MSM will take out of context with better attribution and background is a good one.
Whatever you do with it, I have a hunch it will run drupal. 🙂

1. Dean Said It.
You type in a Dean quotation and it displays like so:
When Howard Dean said…:
“My view is that Fox News is a propaganda outlet of the Republican Party and that I don’t comment on Fox News.”–Chicago, 6/12/05
…HE SPEAKS FOR ME.
Great move! I’m sure there will be lots of useful suggestions. I really like the suggestion with the corporate media quote then what Dean really said.
Lynn,
You are something else! I went to the site just to see the parking spot, and wow! it’s up and running.
Amazing!
Are you a professional, or just a gifted amateur?
Pro since ’94. 🙂 Thanks!

somebody’s archive of Dean Reports that are now nowhere to be found? 😉 Nice to see you around the parts, NYCO.
You did an AMAZING job! Check it out everyone
