More weird ‘christian’ practices.
..the “Lost Boys,” a group of more than 400 teenagers — some as young as 13 — who authorities in Utah and Arizona say have fled or been driven out of the polygamous enclaves of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City over the last four years.
His stated offenses: wearing short-sleeved shirts, listening to CDs and having a girlfriend. Other boys say they were booted out for going to movies, watching television and staying out past curfew.
More below:
Some say they were sometimes given as little as two hours’ notice before being driven to St. George or nearby Hurricane, Utah, and left like unwanted pets along the road.
Authorities say the teens aren’t really being expelled for what they watch or wear, but rather to reduce competition for women in places where men can have dozens of wives.
“It’s a mathematical thing. If you are marrying all these girls to one man, what do you do with all the boys?” said Utah Atty. Gen. Mark Shurtleff, who has had boys in his office crying to see their mothers. “People have said to me: ‘Why don’t you prosecute the parents?’ But the kids don’t want their parents prosecuted; they want us to get the No. 1 bad guy — Warren Jeffs. He is chiefly responsible for kicking out these boys.”
Just more Family Values. Granted this is just a small sect of christians but I am continually shocked at the behavior of so many men of cloth, or no cloth.
hmmm, maybe they should just “outsource them” ; )
sssshh, don’t tell them, they’ll find out it has an economic value, and then all hell will break loose..LOL
Honestly rosee, I’ve always thought their wing was a little too far.
My first instinct is to go out there and try to help those boys. I think the best way to stop these kinds of behaviors is publicity. So I sent a link to 60 Minutes @ cbsnews asking them to put the story on tv. Last week NBC was running a story of Amish rape and abuse of their girls. I am so angry at the way religion is used to cover up these crimes. Somehow America is willing to excuse the worst violations of decency because of religion. How can we change this? Thanks for the diary Rosee – this is the first step. Shame is our best weapon.
Alice, can you elaborate some on your statement of the Amish. I do not know what you are talking about. Thanks.
Rosie,I tell you that the nut cases in what some call religion are just so dangerous as if they are serious criminals of society.
I just happened to catch a story on one of those news magazines about an Amish girl who took her brother to court for rape, and the family and community turned on her. She had such a sweet and innocent face, I was taken in. I should know better than to believe what I see on television, and then to comment as if I know anything true. I’m glad you asked me to explain, hopefully I’ll learn to be more careful. It was a good story – certainly pushed my buttons.
Humans seem ever willing to do whatever they damn well please under the cover of Religion or God.
Until we all take responsibility for our own actions (or lack thereof) and stop looking for someone or something to justify or blame for our own actions, this will not get any better.
Sometimes I am really glad I am an alien here. . .(LOL), and sometimes I wish I weren’t here, it just gets too discouraging at the lack of apparent progress here.
