Catch Bush’s press conference with Prime Minister of Iraq, Ibrahim al-Jafari, on C-SPAN.
CNN, 7AM top story: “It’s been another bloody day in Iraq but we begin with a report from Aruba.” Oh, the blood? Six Five U.S. Marines were blown to bits by a suicide bomber. Ten Marines were wounded. 7:03AM: Three non-white (but thankfully cute) boys are missing in New Jersey. Huh.
Nora McDonald just characterized MoveOn supporters as “liberal extremists.” (That’s who Karl Rove attacked, not Democratic senators! That clears that up.)
NBC’s “First Read” lists some questions that Bush can expect … add your own questions below:
— How does he convince the rest of the world, which has a negative perception of the US, per a new Pew poll?
— Do his Administration’s statements about the war’s progress actually match reality?
— What is his reaction to the five U.S. Marines who were killed last night in Fallujah, when a suicide bomber attacked their vehicle?
— And what does he think about Karl Rove’s statement that liberals reacted timidly and with restraint after the 9/11 terrorist attacks?
Your questions for Mr. Bush?
Mr. Bush: What do you have to say about an e-mail that reporter Dahr Jamail received from a physician in Iraq that claims that “[w]e have big proof on how the American troops destroyed one of our hospitals, how they burned the whole store of medication of the west area of Iraq and how they killed a patient in the ward … how they prevented us from helping the people in al-Qa’im.”
The physician goes on: “This is an URGENT Humanitarian request. The hospitals in the west of Iraq ask for urgent help …we are in a big humanitarian medical disaster….”
Mr. Bush, are we destroying hospitals, medical supplies, and leaving Iraq’s people without medical aid?
Mr. Bush, why aren’t we allowed to see pictures of our honored dead soldiers upon their return for Iraq and Afghanistan?
Susan- excellent diary as always.
I’m getting to the point where words fail me when I’m asked to think of a single question for Bush to answer. There is no question large enough to cover even the most horrific of his actions. Humanity and decency are tainted by even speaking with him.
Hospitals, sewage treatment, water filtration
were also destroyed in al Q’aim.
And Mr. Bush what about
taking away all young men including teen-agers,
numbering them, photographing them, putting hoods
over their heads and taking them to detention centres.
While their wounded and homeless families are left
behind in the rubble.
Mr. President, what do you think of the new look at DK and will this new format change your viewing habits?
Response: “Very alarming. We’ll have to raise the terror threat level to, um, REALLY bright orange, ’cause, you know, the world has changed after 6/23.”
I can’t read Over-there today. I tried but it gave me such a headache it wasn’t worth it. If you had asked me a week ago about cross-posting, I would have said, please don’t, just provide a link. But, today I am extremely grateful for abundant cross-posting. I was atually refreshing over at EuroTrib, waiting for Jerome to post his latest Peak Oil report so that I could read it without eye strain.
And the flashing ads down the middle! Worst. Design. Ever! Absolutely horrid!
told to bring their own body armor, and why must they retrofit their humvees and other combat vehicles?
Do you hate our troops?
Now, I must object to your characterization. Donald Rumsfeld has assured the American people that our soldiers have more than adequate body armor and that their vehicles are properly outfitted. Yesterday, Secretary Rumsfeld offered a candid assessment of troop protections in a widely publicized hearing before the U.S. Senate. Did you somehow miss that?
— channeling Bush, translated from B.S. (Bush Speak) to English
(You should channel away too … my reception keeps cutting in and out.)
How could I be so silly? Dandy Don has only the best interests of our troops at heart.
but I have too many fighting to get out all at once, add to that that I am beginning to feel like I have too much saliva in my mouth (going to upchuck) and I have to move on right now. Good diary though Susan.
How do you convince the American public to back your military incursion into the middle east when you can’t even convince your own daughters to support your efforts by volunteering to join the military and serve their nation?
Follow-up…
Have any of your supporters in the Senate or House persuaded any of their own family members to join the fight in Iraq?
Follow-up…
Have any Conservative Republican pundits volunteered to serve in Iraq? If not, why haven’t you asked them to support you?
Follow-up…
Why isn’t there a Fox News platoon, a CNN platoon, a Rush, Hannity or Kurtz brigade of volunteers fighting in Iraq… Why haven’t you asked them to support you?
And,
Why hasn’t the Vice President’s daughters volunteered to fight in Iraq? Why hasn’t he asked her to support him?
There once was a consultant named Rove,
Whose president’s popularity dove.
So he called up the right,
For a 9/11 knife fight.
Some kids can’t keep hands off the stove.
Oh you are TOO MUCH! WOW..
give me a topic and I can come up with one or a mess of them for you every day!
Mr President, when is it appropriate to justify moral decisions on utilitarian grounds and when is it proper to respect the rights of the individual? Why such a relativistic approach?
“Can you rephrase that question, Dean? (Giggles nervously. Thinks to self, what the fuck does that mean?) “
lol
Mr. Pretender, uh, President:
On May 15 of 2004, Paul Bremer said:
“We don’t stay in countries where we’re not wanted. So if the provisional government, the interim government were to ask us to leave, we would leave,” Bremer told a delegation visiting Baghdad on Friday from Iraq’s Diyala province.
And then Sec. of State Colin Powell:
emphatically said yesterday that if the incoming Iraqi interim government ordered the departure of foreign troops after June 30, they would pack up without protest
Did you then or do you now agree with these statements? If so, when the Sunnis asked for a timetable for withdrawal in January of this year, why did you respond as you did?
In other words, do I really have to go watch it myself?? I don’t think I can stand it! 😉
Listen, I am! So you have to too.
“We don’t like to see dead bodies.”
IT’S HARD WORK!
(hmmm. where have I heard that before?)
He’s going to console the loved ones! When he goes to North Carolina! KEWL!
I tried CSPAN but it won’t let me listen today for some reason — I take it as a sign!
I will hang out here and do my best! Please please please don’t make me turn on the TV — I have children at home!! 😉
Has anyone asked any kind of decent question yet?
I came in in mid-blather….
I tried to watch but didn’t last 20 minutes. It’s the smirk. It’s the patronizing heh-heh. Just can’t stand it.
I don’t look. It helps.
I’m not sure if I will last, and I’ve only been listening for 4 minutes….
Q: Mr. President, some say you are in a second term slump….
GW: [interrrupting]..a quagmire, heh heh heh
I can’t stand it either…
It’s like a repeat of pat phrases.
“It’s hard work, y’know, really hard work.” whines Bush.
[So resign then!]
“We’re fightin’ terrer,
fer Iraqi people,
fer democracy (Note to self: over
there mebee, sure as hell not over here, hee hee.)
Ok, maybe not for the press conference… but maybe someday after the International Criminal Court finishes with him.
inarticulate lying stuttering patronizing insulting
is he talking to pre-schoolers?
just plain awful!
and while he talks, the bombs are coming down on the Iraqi people.
Get me some Gravol (for nausea)
Hmm .. that foreign reporter that asked two questions … he’s “learned a trick” from those U.S. reporters.
“Like I reminded all of you … four months ago … anyway, the beginning of winter.”
Barbara makes note: Teach George the seasons again.
He also complimented the Iraqi reporter for asking an intelligent question.
My President, How often do you think about Iraq?
Just because I love it when he says “I think about Iraq everyday”. It makes me think I could be president, because, you know, I think about Iraq everyday too!
is likely much different from Bush’s thinking.
Bush:
who’s responsible for this?
Heads will roll.
Karl, what kin ya do about this Iraq thing
that’s bringin’ down my polls? Ya kept tellin’
me to stay the fucking course and now look
what’s happening, Iraq is bringin’ down my
goddamned polls.”
No, no I do not have to be proud, I’m sorry, Ibrahim, I do not.
No SHIT, George!!
That’s why we’re asking the questions and by the way, this question [when will the reconstruction start?] was for the Prime Minister you asswipe!!! Why are you answering it??
Ok, I can’t even listen, I can’t.
Sorry all….
DId you hear that Iraqi radio reporter ask them “When will the reconstruction start? … It would help the Iraqi young people to have something to do.”
Bush first replied: “Some things we don’t tell you about.” (words to that effect)
then he said it’s up to the Iraqi government … your government .. not us.
MUST GET TRANSCRIPT of that.
I hope that guy doesn’t disappear soon.
Transcript here.
One good thing I can say about this admininstration is that their transcription service doesn’t correct Bush’s misstatements.
If one of our soldiers dies in Iraq and he or she is an atheist should we honor their service?
Does the republican sentate and congress realize that many or our armed service members are actual democrats? Will you please talk to them about that?
Regarding the scandal at the Air Force Academy; are all Christian denominations equal in the eyes of the american military? If some Christians are not equal then where does that leave non Christians and Atheists? Do you think it is a good idea to send military to Iraq with the idea that some are headed for hell if they die?
