Steven in an open thread at Dkos caught this breaking report from Yahoo News:
that the US just responded to the UN Human Committee Against Torture request for information…ADMITTING that there has been torture…”They said it was a question of isolated cases, that there was nothing systematic and that the guilty were in the process of being punished.” The US report said that those involved were low-ranking members of the military and that their acts were not approved by their superiors, the member added.”
Hmm, but no acknowledgement that torture is currently occurring now, and no taking responsibility for giving the okay in the first place. Just blame the other guy…in this case, the soldiers they trained. Different day, same tactic…blame others. Such…Patriots.
(sleezeballs)
Okay, this is fresh news. Now…wonder what else is going to come out on Friday. Seems to me, that there are more and more discussions about torture coming up. And suddenly… the Republican administration, Rove, and their hordes are doing everything they can to distract the discussion away from this. Maybe we are getting close to something…active violation of international human rights laws, for example. Illegal war…
Something’s cooking…
(the blame trip, especially blaming the soldiers…is so disgusting…they will do anything to stay in power)
He wrote the opinion rationalizing it.
when they made their response to the UN, no doubt.
A soldier in Iraq can trust no one. You can’t trust the Iraqis, you can’t trust the American people (taking a nap in front of the Playstation), you can’t trust your Command (THAT SOLDIER IS A BAD APPLE!) A gun in my hand and the whole world against me…..do I turn the gun on myself or the whole world?……hmmmmmmmmmm, difficult questions abound!
and believe that we are really winning in Iraq, despite all evidence to the contrary.
Split with those that we know who have been there for one tour. My husband’s troops are over there for the second tour right now. As for the one time tourers, many who were there before things became as bad as they are now……it is about 50/50 desperate hearts to Koolaid drinkers. I find it silly shocking but we do actually have a few G.I. Joes with one tour under their belts so drunk on Koolaid they stumble around making ZERO sense. For those who sat in Kuwait doing logistics or those who haven’t been there yet, insanity seems boundless with these precious few.
then it’s only logical that torture is the fault of the soldiers.
And all the other problems in Congress are the fault of the Democrats because of the filibuster.
So much for the Republican cutlure of responsibility.
