Donald Rumsfeld, February 7th 2003
Quick campaign
Mr Rumsfeld is in Europe to try to gain backing for possible military action against Iraq.
“It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months,” he said, speaking at the American air base at Aviano, in northern Italy.
whoops. Sorry, scratch that. Donald Rumsfeld, June 26th 2005:
“We’re not going to win against the insurgency. The Iraqi people are going to win against the insurgency,” Rumsfeld told “Fox News Sunday.” “That insurgency could go on for any number of years. Insurgencies tend to go on five, six, eight, 10, 12 years.”
(Thanks to DKos’s chrisfs and reddan for refreshing the collective memory!)
sheesh.
as long as we need bases in Iraq.
The bases will last as long as Halliburton and its subsidiaries have contracts to supply them.
Someone should tell him the Europeans are not as stupid as americans. Does he really think anyone is going to trust him?
I think we have seen the name of the game change to it’s Iraq’s fault, Rem. Bush said ‘I hate to pass the buck'(or words to that effect) but he did….to Iraq..
Yeah sure!!!
maybe the question should be re-phrased, not how many weeks / months / years anymore but how many lifes and limbs…
