Fifteen year old Michelle Wie is playing the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour this week. She shot one under for the first round.
Today, she opened with a birdie on the tenth, made par on the 11th, and chipped in for birdie on the par three 12th.
I’m rooting for her to make the male chauvanists squirm. So, we’ll do some “Wie” blogging,
Par on the 13th. Birdie putt to come on the 14th.
Birdie on the 14th. Three under for five holes today.
Let’s hear some applause.
Or should that be “Wie to go?” 😉
Great…now the spouse and I will probably have to stay in and watch golf all weekend instead of going out to play…
Her second shot on the 15th went right, and her chip ran long up against the collar. She had a long putt for bogie, but made it.
16 is a par three, and it looks like the ball is just off the front of the green.
Yeah, yeah, yeah!!! Go girl go. . .(gee at 15 I barely learned to tie my own shoes)
She made par on the 16th. The 17th is a par 5 and the wind is in her face. She hit a huge drive, but the second shot landed in a bunker short of the green.
The bunker shot was just a little strong so the curvature of the green took it about 45 feet away from the hole. Two putted for par.
Michelle almost holed out the second shot on the 18th for an eagle. She tapped in for birdie.
Four birdies and one bogie for the back nine as she started on 10. The cut is currently at -3, and she is at -4.
By the way, the crowds are huge and “completely in love with her” according to the commentators.
Her drive at the first hole went left, but they say she can reach the green.
This is great, outlandish!! I’m trying to meet a deadline (ha) and can’t watch the tournament but I really am interested in following it. I love your pithy summaries. You have a new career as a blog sportscaster.
She made par on the first with ease.
Great drive on the second hole, second shot into the left greenside bunker. Good, but not great, bunker shot. She will have a putt for birdie.
She missed the birdie putt, but made par at the second.
A run of birdies would be nice here. Come on girl!
She made par on the difficult par three third.
Tee shot on the fourth is not in the fairway, but there is a big tree in the middle of the fairway. She is between the tree and the hole with a good lie. There is some grass around the tree that is not fairway, like a tree well. Her ball is in that grass near the fairway grass on the hole side.
Her second shot went over the green, and the chip almost went in again. But, alas she made another par.
I want birdies!
Just missed the birdie on the 5th. Still at -4, cut still at -3.
Difficult tee shot into bunker on left. Second shot into another bunker. Bunker shot didn’t get near the hole. Difficult par putt ahead. Ooops, went about five feet past the hole. Some work left for bogie. Oh dear, she missed it.
Now, she has to make at least one birdie in the next three holes.
Talking to myself. She also bogied the 7th. Must birdie the last two holes to make the cut, or make an eagle on 9.
but I’m stuck at my workdesk, thanks for the put-by-put 🙂
Great drive on 8. Second shot close enough for a realistic try at birdie.
Just missed. That sixth hole double bogie did her in. The ninth hole is the hardest on the course.
Of course, she did beat a lot of the men, but she had such a good thing going for most of her round.
