The Secular Coalition for America is preparing to send a lobbyist to Washington. By doing so, The SCA will become the nation’s first and only lobbying organization for non-theists. Their mission is to increase the visibility and respectability of non-theistic viewpoints within the larger culture and to protect and strengthen secular government as the best guarantee of freedom for all. They have yet to hire the director/lobbyist, so if you are an atheist with political aspirations and experience, maybe you should apply.
Ads for the first Secular Coalition for America Director / Lobbyist are now running in several outlets frequented by legislative professionals. You can see the job announcement for yourself on secular.org. When Congress next convenes, non-theistic Americans will have their own advocate on Capitol Hill — someone who insists upon a place for the non-religious at the table where American values are decided.
This effort has been made possible by the enthusiastic and generous commitment of atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, liberals, and humanists everywhere. This grassroots effort is now ready to pay off in the form of America’s first secular lobbyist in Congress.
If this seems like a worthy cause to you, keep in mind that their presence on Capitol Hill will be a short-lived one if they do not continue to receive financial help. They still need to set up an office in expensive Washington, D.C. and establish a presence with politicians and the media.
