Welcome to Froggy Bottom Cafe, evening edition.
Newcomers and Visitors Welcome.
Help yourself to desserts and libations.
This morning we were telling ghost stories. If you want to read some great ones, do visit the earlier cafe. Now let’s gather ’round the fire and see what happens next. . .
What you guys wrote today made that my favorite diary of all time. Thanks so much for jumping right in and going BOO!
Now, much as I hate to say this, please unrecommend that diary and recommend this one. You’ve got your own tough act to follow!
mister katiebird taped Big Brother for me while I was holding the fort earlier. And, it’s time to watch, now.
I’ll be back in an hour or so.
kansas, you’ve set an incredibly high standard for hosting the cafe. Thank you.
Aw shucks, ma’am, twarn’t nothin’. And the truth is, I am happy with a cafe that’s as simple as. . .was going to say pie. . cake. I suspect most everybody is. But it is definitely fun to try stuff now and then. You run a pretty fine cafe yourself, pardner.
As you know, we speak this way in Kansas.
Yeeup, that we do.
ooooh! I’m turning off the TV, I can’t stand it anymore. They just found 200 dead cats in some woman’s house. Yesterday, it was 300. Is that a Kansas thing, or does it happen everywhere?
I’m done with it.
I just want to say thanks for posting an appetizer recipe in a recent Cafe thread because I tweaked it a little and made it this week, and it was really delicious. Yay for recipe sharing!
You’re welcome! Tune in for this week’s culiinary delight later today!
I missed the earlier diary, was away from my desk most of the day. I’ll have to go check it out. Anyone see Countdown tohight? Mo Rocca, a funny guy.
I can’t believe you’re still going so strong! Today’s ghost Cafe was excellent. You’ve got some great ideas. Really appreciate your work here, as well as everyone’s stories.
I haven’t had much time to post/comment over the last week. We just moved into our new house and it was a lot of work and hellaciously hot (33C but 40 w/ the humidex). We’re settled in now, and loving it.
I never realized how much I rely on the internets for my … well, everything news related for sure. After being disconnected for that time, I can begin to understand how the general non-interneted public can remain so unaware.
Anyway, it’s good to be back.
That’s very exciting. Glad you’re settled in and back with us. Do you have a brand new neighborhood or even new city to explore?
I don’t know how strong I’m still going. 🙂 I think I’m going to fade in a very few minutes. You guys can keep the campfire burning.
It’s a new city and neighbourhood, so lots of exploring – you know, locating the new stores to frequent etc. It’s been fun. We’ve met most of the neighbours too. So far so good.
Get some rest – you deserve it after today’s fine performance. Sweet dreams!
Had a phone message from my sister — she transferred my share of Mom’s house sale into the credit union savings account. I actually have money! Yippee!!!
Part of money will be going to pay bills, get a second computer (so the spouse and I aren’t fighting over the laptop), and take some vacations…the rest will be going into money market funds of various terms to contribute to the spouse’s upcoming retirement (9 years isn’t really that long when you think about it). I’m looking at putting 1/3 into a 6-month certificate, 1/3 into a 12 month, and 1/3 into a 24 month, then withdrawing money if needed for emergency otherwise just rolling over into another certificate.
I’m not used to being financially content…it’s a strange feeling…
Congratulations!! This is good news night at the Cafe so far. Enjoy that strange feeling!
with new music — went to the electronics store to pick up a new surge strip (for the new computer), stopped by the music department and came across “Queen — Greatest Hits Volumes I, II, and III” for only $24.99; Volume III solo was $14.99 so definitely a good deal. I’m adding them to my iTunes as I type. I’m in Freddie Mercury Heaven! 🙂
In case anyone is wondering, it takes 9 minutes to give 4s to 123 comments (actually less since I couldn’t rate myself).
We REALLY need that master click so we can blanket-4’s.
Sounds like someone forgot to rev up her clickin’ finger. Hand calisthenics, dah-ling.
I find that one of the very best ways to exercise one’s hands is that well-known calisthenic known as Flipping the Bird. One can Flip the Bird all night if one watches enough cable news.
True athletes like to combine Flipping the Bird with Hollering Profanity Real Loud to exercise the lungs.
But that’s for pro’s.
You show amazing restraint. If I watch cable news for longer than a few minutes at a time I wind up throwing things at the television…and I’m not rich, so my arsenal is limited. Hmm, I gotta get me some nerf balls.
I have been watching the senate hearings(on detainee policies) just now and I am frogged out with frustration.
I need some rest and relaxation.
What do you have to drink. Non alcholic please….
Okay, I’m off to bed. Time for the true night owls to hoot. Sven, where are you??
I as well. It was a “hoot” today. I’ll be in & out tomorrow but hope to catch up with everyone at happy hour. Bonne nuit, mes cheries!
Been being social. Friend o’mine just had first daughter by second wife, and we boys did the usual. I skipped the alcohol part, but enjoyed a fat cigar after an excellent meal on the balcony of his swish house overlooking the sea around Brandö – an island connected to East Helsinki. We also had a sauna, of course!
Don’t ask me why its called the Dachshund Club. The origin of the name is lost in the mists of time. But mostly media members who get together a couple of times a year at least.
Mother and daughter are in excellent shape.
Drove home around midnight under a fantastic reddish twilight sky and hardly another car on the motorway.
pardon me, bartender…. is it katie or kansas, or both? i just sat at the closed cafe for 10 whole minutes before i discovered i was alone, and the place was closed!!! wanna talk about ghost stories… guess who appeared to be there???
John Barrymore, Ernest Hemmingway, Jack London, Dorothy Parker, Bram Stoker and Sherlock Holmes!!!! Then there were my relatives…. Jesus !! It scared me to death.
could I have an Irish Mist please… whatever size glass you have is fine… just not too much ice please.
we’re in the home stretch… work just about through and a mere 2 hours before the L.O. gets off work. hmm. maybe a washup and a new set of clothes might be good…. all this rough living has not improved my presentation… and the L.O. will be smelling like fresh country air from all that walking home from work….. there’s not a wee little shower room in the back of this cafe, is there?
sorry i haven’t had much to add about the ghost stories… just too involved with work and the home life, and the news…. and the BBC is on constantly, so I’m just kind of preoccupied….. hmmm……… and now I’m winded and after I order I have to go back to that blasted old cafe and unrecommend…. who will be there next????
yes, I think a drink would go down nicely.
yawn….
I can’t remember who kansas left in charge, but since you asked for me, I’ve made you a drink.
I know, it’s too much ice. Do you want me to take it out, or do you want to do it?
….yawn
I’ll just soothe my fevered brow !! are you up past your bedtime???
no, it’s not really. I’m just tired for no reason.
get cleaned up for the homecoming… thanks see you later
Our small chartered cruising boat lies at anchor in Lake Erie off the north shore of Pelee Island, Canada, in the 1980’s.
One more drink y’all !!!
What a beautiful scene…. when the sun sinks under the yardarm that means kansas is on her way!!
Oh, it looks good. I think I’ll take a piece to go for lunch tomorrow.
I missed all of the fun. Sleep tight all of you not on Pacific Time. It’s only 9:06 pm here. So everyone go to bed and be energized for tomorrow, cause it’ll be TGIF
Good to see a few Left Coast folks still up and about — though I’ll probably turn in early, tomorrow is a busy day! 🙂
Is that key lime pie? Oh I better have a slim slice before I retire. Just got home from the Padres game…real bummer and most boring Padres game I have ever been to. They were losing 6-0 in the eighth so I left. Nice balmy evening though. Got any decaf to go with that pir katiebird?
spellcheck is my friend….pir not pir…must be really tired.
Crap…I did it again…PIE…there!
no you’re talking to yourself too! what is happening to all of us?!? 😉
Here you go aloha:
BooHoo…I’m all alone here so I’m just gonna take that last slice of pie and call it a night. It would help to look at the time stamps of last post before one starts talking to herself hey gang? Night…sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite or the goblins get you…bhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaa
I’m over here!!! I know I blend into the shadows, so let me turn the lights up abit. 😛 Have a good one aloha, see you on the flipside.
5 in the morning, nobody here? Hmm look at all these dishes. But they’re so clean. Looks like people licked their plates. . .oh, right, key lime pie. Hmm, that’s all gone.
Hope Suskind had a lovely reunion.
And Olivia’s sleeping well in her new home.
And Katiebird got some well-earned rest.
And Man Eegee had an interesting day at his great diary.
And Sven remembered to close the sauna door.
And Gooserock’s got his camera ready for the sunrise.
And Pam from California, and Alohaleezy, and Diane, and Cali Scribe, and neoconnedagain, and BrotherFeldspar, and IndyLib, and Boran2, are all having sweet dreams.
I’ll just get the coffee going. . .
Thanks for the good wishes, but I’m another insomniac so I’m actually still up. 😮 I hope you slept well, though, there in the scorching hot Sunflower State.
Thanks. I think I slept well, but it seemed short.
Ah, I see light on the horizon. Think I’ll take that walk before the scorch starts again.
ummm Coffee….
Actually it was a rare sauna without a timer – so we all set our mobiles to remind us to switch off (electric sauna) later.
Basically 3 types of sauna (or bastu as Swedes call it):
The usual early rising in the Scribe household; the spouse just left for work, and forgot to pour himself some coffee, so it’s left for me to drink. (I usually don’t drink coffee unless we go out to breakfast, but I’ll make an exception today.)
Busy day so probably won’t be in till the evening edition of the Friday FBC; meeting up with the spouse when he gets off work, then need to go get his BP checked again (it was a bit high yesterday at his transit physical; he’s got a 3-month extension on his current medical card, he may need to get to our regular doctor for a medication adjustment), then head for the credit union and see if the money my sister had transferred made it in. If it did, we’re taking out quite a bit and putting it in the checking account, then doing a lot of shopping and bill paying this weekend!
Have a great day, everyone…if I can, I’ll check in the morning Cafe before I run off…
And I think I’m ready for my toast.
Everyone, stay where you are! I can get it myself, thanks anyway.
Coffee? Fresh Coffee, anyone?
I want some! Where is everyone? Probably going to MSOC’s new place.
All this fragmentation is making me a little sad this morning. All the people I WANT to read are now posting at 42 different places… I can’t post on more than 2 blogs – I’m not that good at the internets.
I agree about the fragmentation but, hey, with all the cross-posting everything worth reading will eventually splash in the Pond. I do daily reading on 10 different blogs but I only participate on this one. Then, there are about five more that I hit less frequently and one — Clusterfuck Nation — that I only read when I feel I can handle the despair.
I kind of the the quiet today is because of all the activity yesterday. And I was waiting for a new Cafe. Maybe others are also.
I agree, I read lots of blogs, but almost exclusively comment here. Now.
I am one tired old lady today. For unknown reasons, I awoke at 3am and could not get back to sleep so now I’m dragging — badly. I should go lie down and take a nap but that would totally destroy my sleep cycle. So I’m staggering on until sundown.
I’m so fagged I walked out of the grocery store this morning and left the groceries I’d just paid for. The cashier came running after me, pulling the cart, laughing her head off. When she did the usual, “How are you today?” I did tell her I was sleep-walking. So she was laughing and calling out, “Wake up! Wake up!” Lots of people were laughing at me; I’m so glad I can be entertaining.
I can’t get into Maryscott’s new place; it just won’t load. <sigh>
