Personally, I love it!
Those damn conservatives have absolutely no artistic appreciation. This is a masterpiece. The artist is Stephen Pearcy, a lawyer from California who painted it in 20 minutes on the 4th of July, 2003. Jeeze, when I feel like that, I just come here and rant.
” “I put it out on the front lawn, after seeing American flags everywhere in this fanatical display of patriotism,” Pearcy said. “Things that made me feel like the country was going down the toilet. It’s a pretty straightforward message.”
Stephen’s painting is currently on display in the California State Department of Justice’s cafeteria as part of an art show sponsored by the California Lawyers for the Arts. All this just isn’t sitting well with some California conservatives. In fact, it’s really getting their shorts in a knot. An online petition has 50 signatures. Ooooooo, that many? Really pisses them off when they can’t just censure anything they please.
I’m happy to report that the officials in charge have absolutely no inclination to remove Mr Pearcy’s beautiful painting. I hope Stephen has a lot of paints, he sure has a lot of inspiration.
Read the whole article here from the Daily Californian.
I like it also.
Critics from those who applauded the blue draping of nude statues… ACK.
Thanks for the diary, Nag!
those 50 on the list, probably saw a “self portrait” when they viewed it ; )
Thanks Nag. Mr. Pearcy is a hero for showing us all that we should be speaking out in public. I am always inspired by the people who will go out of their way not to go along.
Mr Pearcy also made a representation of a dead US soldier with a sign “Bush lied, I died” and put that is his yard. It disappeared after a few days. So he made another one, which also disappeared. He has a lot of pluck. Yay Stephen!!! This story just tickled me to no end.
that the conservatives are all for free speech as long as it coincides with their dogma and belief systems.
As long as they continue to demonize the left/progressives/liberals, as unamerican and anti patriotic they will strive to eliminate our rights in every possible way.
I am grateful that there were only 50 who signed up to censure this painting. I find it quite significant in its depiction of where our beloved nation is heading, I just hope Bushco and his merry band of the thieves don’t flust us all down the drain.
Thanks nag for bringing this wonderful painting to our attention.
It isn’t even that they dare to be fussy critics, it’s that this art would have been perfectly fine if it were titled “Thanks To Mr. Clinton.” or “Thanks to latte-drinking, commie-loving Liberals.”
It’s hypocrisy.
