Cindy/Casey Vigil -LA, CA.

Last night I went to the Cindy Peace vigil in Studio City, Calif. It was a couple of miles from my home. It was Awesome. We took over a busy intersection all four corners and lined the streets..Ventura Blvd & Laurel Cyn. There were over 400 people there. News crews.. Local and National, kids, younger people, older people, lots of Moms and Grandmothers, American flags, Peace sign Flags, A Huge CINDY SHEEHAN banner, many small banners and signs saying PEACE, NO WAR,…Stand up for Peace. We love you Cindy. It was a sea of white lights..flickering candles everywhere. There were even people handing out candles. It was such a warm feeling. All the cars that were driving by were honking, yelling, people hanging out of the tops of their sunroofs yelling PEACE, We Love Cindy. A man was handing out “9-11 dollar bills”..they were larger than a regular dollar bills but looked exactly like the real thing
The face in the middle of the bill was George Bush looking just like the chimp, big ears and all..and then next to him smaller faces of evil Cheney and Rove. Above them the letters on the bill spelled “The Uninformed State of Denial. BS in the circle, LIE over the skull & Bones. The denomination is ONE Deception. It’s Priceless.
It looks like every friday night 6-7:30, “Stand up for Peace” is having more vigils at the same corner. There was also a singer/band with sound system…they were singing “We love Cindy Sheehan…A great American Hero….”, they passed out the words to the song they had written… the cars just kept coming and honking..We held candles and gave them the peace sign and love sign. Every time the light would turn Red…7 people, six adults, 1 kid with huge cardboard squares 4 x 3 ft each, walked across the street and the letters on their individual squares all added up to spell

I  M  P  E  A  C  H

As they marched & danced across the street, the crowd went W I L D. Screaming..Cheering them on…they were followed by a man wheeling a giant Green Peace sign..It was a huge circle that must have been 10 feet tall, 10 feet wide, with the giant piece sign in the middle.  The corner I was on had local news and CNN. They were interviewing Richard Dryfus and Ed Begley Jr. Yup..they were there holding their candles in support of Cindy…answering all kinds of questions about Cindy and how they feel about her waiting for a meeting with Bush and the war. I gotta tell you..I had chills tonight..It is happening, the anti war movement is here..Regular people have caught up with us here at Dkos…the anti war thing is in the streets..the train has left the station…who would have thought it would have been started by a grief stricken woman questioning her sons death, sitting in a ditch, on a folding chair, being bitten by ants, in the middle of fucking nowhere demanding to meet with the President of the United States and ask him “What noble cause did my son Casey died for?” Hackett calls Bush a SOB and Chickenhawk, Cindy called him a terrorist and said he killed her son and people are in the streets.

Next vigil..please go..It warms the soul. Being around all those folks, some you feel like you have known forever, all of them supporting Cindy, wanting to spread peace and love..instead of hate and war. An older man pulled up in front of me in his caddy, I held up the peace sign, I yelled “Honk for Peace”..He flipped me his middle finger and said “Fuck You”..my part of the crowd boo’ed him..he raced off making tracks..we are really getting to them..I turned to the Woman next to me and said..”He represents Bush, that is exactly what Bush is saying to Cindy and all of us…Fuck off..It really put things into perspective, and brought me back to the real world. As I turned around, a kid behind me was on his moms shoulders, he must have been about 3 years old..he and his mom were being interviewed for the news….
the sweet, moppy haired kid had a sign hanging from his neck
….it said …”War is Bad.”
