I can’t stand it. I’ve become more fond of this show than ever before! I’m about to have a RUTH MOMENT! Oh well .. here’s the promo blurb on the last episode:
In the series finale, David finally embraces a demon; Keith gives “tough love”; Nathaniel talks to his younger son; Claire gets an exciting phone call; Margaret is impressed to see Olivier’s nurturing side and Ruth finds consolation in the truth from Maggie.
Don’t miss the 75-minute season finale of Six Feet Under “Everyone’s Waiting”, Sunday, August 21st at 9 PM ET.
Don’t miss a a two-part Six Feet Under 2001-2005 special which airs on 8/21 (before the Finale).
SEE YOU after the finale!
P.S. ENTOURAGE begins at 10:15 pm tonight.
the pre-show is on.
Are you going to watch the CNN special at 11PM?
I saw the pre-show show last Monday night … it’s nice … surprising how much I’d forgotten from the early shows.
I’m flipping back and forth. I loved Larry’s quote about Curveball.
First Hunter and now this. I don’t know how much more loss I can stand this weekend…
okay, is it just me, or are Keith and David the best fucking couple on television?
They are! What’s more, I suspect David might be a better mom that I am!
well, except for the psychotic breaks and his tendency to speak to ghosts …
that might have been the best thing I have ever seen on television. Amazing.
Wasn’t that beautiful?!
I felt so gooooooooooooood after seeing that. So real
The front page of the NYT — with a nice photo of Lauren Ambrose:
And They All Died Happily Ever After, Sort Of
“Six Feet Under,” HBO’s magnificent and magnificently flawed series, mixed beauty and silliness to the end. Go to Article
(I recall how the NYT panned 6FU when it premiered five years ago…grrr.)
That was hearbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. I’m sure I missed a couple of things through my tears. But didn’t Ruth look great after she moved out?
She changed how she dressed! COOL!
That free-spirited, slightly wild and also wonderful group of women was always there. Waiting for her. She finally joined them. And also, lovingly, kept George a part of her life.
i’m watching it again!
Wow…Amazing…Uplifting..depressing…I am numb. One question…Why did Nate have a change of heart with Brenda 3/4’s of the way through? I am spent.
I couldn’t watch Entourage afterwards .. it was too jarring a transition.
Yes, Nate mellowed. Perhaps because he saw Brenda’s maturity in dealing with the business and with Maya and so on.
P.S. The bits over grandmothers’ rivalries was something else … just one of so many touches in that show tonight. Thank you, Alan Ball. haven’t read the NYT piece yet. Hope it’s decent. And, Terry Gross’s interviews on her Friday show are wonderful.
I couldn’t believe when Brenda’s mother tossed the monkey on the floor. I am so depressed now..not sure if it’s because it’s over or just thinking about everyone I know getting older and dying…ughhh…I feel like a piece of my heart is missing…but it sure makes you want to experience life to it’s fullest, experience new things, not to fear anything..do what you want and don’t let fear hold you back…happiness and sadness…I can’t believe they all are dead..but they are not really dead yet…my god…Claire lived to be over 100….Ruth has another good 20 years left…Billy and Brenda…in the old age home…unbelieveable. I was glad for Ruth…that made me the happiest..going and living with the gals, changing her way and letting her hair down. Keith was the only one who died prematurely. Allan Ball is a Genius..
Chaminox, hugs.
I’ve felt that way about some other good television … Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere … and a couple talk shows like Tom Snyder …
As I wrote in an e-mail to BooMan last night, I just hope that HBO doesn’t go all-epic on us, and that it remembers to do contemporary, family dramas like this one.
the show doesn’t believe in afterlife, so when the dead appear they reflect the mental process of the living, and how they feel about the dead.
Brenda forgave Nate and gained confidence in the viability of her baby 3/4 of the way through, so she stopped perceiving Nate as a negative force, and was able to see him as a positive force.
wow…thanks for this…I do agree with Susan about Brenda’s moment..when she woke up and thought something was wrong with Mia and went running to her room…that was I guess when she realized she was good and the negative thoughts were gone..I gotta watch it again..especially the last 5 minutes..I may become depressed all over again…but it really packed a Wallop…still spent..You are good Booman. Really good…I kinda knew what you wrote, but it was in the back of my mind somewhere..The father was the key to that the entire run..Bravo
That was fantastic. I loved every single piece of it.
If you don’t get Showtime, I recommend you rent the DVD of “Huff” starring Hank Azaria and Blythe Danner and Oliver Platt (who should win an Emmy).
It’s terrific … it’s contemporary family drama and quirky, like 6FU.
Oops … it’s not released yet. Sign up at amazon to get notified.
Thanks for the recommendation. Y’know, for years they’ve been trying to make a movie of the book “Confederacy of Dunces.” They kept saying the trouble was casting the lead — how to find an actor that can make a fat, pompous, sociopath seem likable. I always thought Oliver Platt could’ve pulled it off.
I hear they’re making the movie now with, iirc, Will Farrell. I can’t see it.
I love his acting. Ever see him in that HBO movie in which he goes undercover in a neo-Nazi group in Germany?
You’ll love him in HUFF. He is a RIOT!
Who knew. Crooks & Liars had a 6FU thread last night too.
