Ever see this video — not intended for publication — of an F-16 fighter bombing a group of insurgents on the streets of Fallujah?
“[Thirty-plus] insurgents left the building en masse to hurry to a nearby engagement with U.S. Marines that had been going on for hours.” Below the fold, more from the explanation provided by someone who sent this to a local friend, who in turn sent it to me.
Something you won’t see on the news….
This is an F-16 doing CAS during the recent fighting in Fallujah, where
we have been bombing insurgent “safe houses” with some success recently.
This F-16 was on such a mission, to hit a house with an LGB, when 30+ insurgents left the building en masse to hurry to a nearby engagement with U.S. Marines that had been going on for hours. The pilot communicates with a FAC either in the air or on the ground, and changes the flight path of the bomb while it is in the air. You can clearly see the “L” flashing in the MFD, and “TGP” is selected. The bomb itself is probably a 500 pounder, as Mk84s would be overkill in an urban setting where the ROE calls for minimal “collateral damage”. (See attached file: F16 bomb.wmv)

How are they able to spin the camera around from front to back like that?
n/t
Yeah, I remember seeing this last year — not this particular explanation though.
That message on the bottom is exactly the same one that would accompany all messages that I received from a Danish friend of mine who worked in the Korean embassy in Denmark…..no one is going to get in trouble for this being posted here are they?
I dunno … if you don’t hear from me again, call Michael Ratner! :):)
I’d guess it’s been circulating on the ‘net…. it’s pretty realistic, listening to the pilots breathing, planning, executing, reacting….
You know that everyone here has your back Susan! The video has been out there for some time, I’m just wondering about the text….
And completely OT, but speaking of “missing persons”, where’s catnip? is she ok?
Funny you should ask … we both must have Catnip on our minds. A couple hours ago, I sent her an e-mail. I hope to hear back from her! Let us know if you do too.
that appears in e-mail on a fairly standard basis within business offices. Perhaps this pic was e-mailed by someone at work? The tag gets inserted automatically on out-going mail.
Company secrets mut be protected.
reaction to the explosion is particularly sickening – I can picture the same guy a couple of years ago saying the same thing while playing a video game.
That’s funny I thought he said “oh dear”.. and to me he sounded sad.
I heard “Oh, dude,” myself.
I must say that I don’t think this is a triumphal proclamation. On the contrary: this is the pilot saying, “Oh, God, what have I done? I’ve just killed 20-30 human beings!”
I’ve thought about this statement all day, and I honestly think that we are seeing a moment of true “combat candor.” How many of us here know — truly know — that we are directly responsible for the deaths of many people? How many of those who are responsible for those deaths wouldn’t take a moment to reflect on what this means to our moral character? One would have to be a monster not to.
This exclamation was a de facto, even subconscious, prayer, in my opinion, one which was expressed in the only way allowable given the circumstances.
while sickening, has been around for over a year… there are a number of websites that have this as well as the “murder of the farmer and his son as seen through night vision” video as representative of atrocities…
Interesting that they’ve enlisted the use of spam writers for that elegant disclaimer in your email ; )
When I first saw this on the web, it didn’t have the little “supporting marines with an airstrike” window dressings… interesting that someone would be trying to yank chains in this particular direction…
Here is this one plus others, if you can handle “the truth”…
Back in them days, I didn’t watch videos cuz my ol’ computer couldn’t display them worth a damn. Now I have this baby Mac and it does just fine!
Glad it’s been around for a while. That means I can’t possibly get in trouble!
I wonder if all those hit were insurgents..
This video was extensively investigated by the BBC after it had been released by the US military. It turns out these were NOT insurgents but innocent civilians caught up in trying to flee from the attack on Fallujah. The better quality original shows that many of the figures are women and children.
