TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwan has withdrawn an anti-AIDS campaign ad featuring a smiling nun holding a condom after it sparked an outcry from Roman Catholics, local media said on Wednesday.
The poster, which shows the nun holding the condom with both hands and saying “Although I don’t need one, even I know,” had been removed from all condom machines in Taipei hospitals, subway stations and elsewhere.
“As a nun, I can’t agree with their way of expressing things,” a church spokeswoman said Wednesday. “This is a serious insult.”

What stupid shit have you encountered recently?
Every now and then I just have to touch the stove to see if it’s still hot. What a stream of BS those clowns peddle.
I programmed my tv so that I skip by Faux when I’m scrolling through the channels. No I’m no longer bothered by it (can’t remember what channel it is), or by any of the shopping channels.
A friend’s 17 year old son used the parental controls on their TV to block fox. What a proud Mom she is!!!
If you’re the United States Naval Academy:
“It was recently brought to my attention that CNN was dropped a bit over two weeks ago from the U.S. Naval Academy’s (USNA) internal video network used for academic functions, which feeds to classrooms, more than 4000 students, etc. This left FOX News as the only news channel on the USNA video network, which is operated by the academy’s Multimedia Support Center (MSC).“
The rest is at Lauren Weinstein’s blog.
[His is the only place I found this, but the laugh was worth the trip.]

My boss. Self proclaimed life long republican, raging on about Bush and the war, the price of gas, lack of health insurance, blah, blah, blah. He voted for him. WTF did he expect? I try to get in words edgewise about Kerry and he says: “come on, Kerry wasn’t the answer”! OOooookaaaay boss…….help me out here. What was the answer? Dumb Fuggenuck, to borrow a term :O)
Just in case anyone was wondering what Tony Blair might have been expecting to gain out of his subservience to the Bush regime, here’s a clue.
Bolton the Destroyer is off and running with his first disruptive initiative at the UN here.
Stupid Shit from the article:
Condescending and arrogant at the same time. Nice.
The quote you referenced describes the essence of Bolton’s and the rest of the neocon’s fractured and inverted logic. Typically, they obstruct real progress with lies and criticism while supporting and rewarding actions and behaviour that are counterproductive to the very policy goals they claim to have.
It’s worse than hypocrisy, what these lunatics do.
And neocon spokesman and general gasbag David Brooks shows once again that the essential liberties of equal rights and the power of democratic law, (as opposed to authoritarian religious law), are alien concepts in the world of neocon megalomaniacs. Read here.
My LTE to the NYT in response to David Brooks’ column.
I came across this pic and had to post it here. Credit goes to artist “Bennett” and the Christian Science Monitor. Incredible image, says it all. Crazy shit indeed.

This is the, entirely predictable, standard response. I call it the “Stage Two Blather.” The normal form of this is: ‘X number of soldiers have died. To keep these deaths from being pointless we need to get X times Y more soldiers pointlessly killed.’
After the US military gets its ass kicked we will see “Stage Three” – where the military/conservatives/etc will concoct, yet another, ‘Stab in the Back Theory.’
This is my first post here, so please be gentle if I screw up! I’m locally active with the Democratic Party and am in my second term on the county council (a fiscal body – the county commissioners are the legislative). We are in the midst of our annual county budget hearings the other night and the recently new county commissioner president says, “We could save a lot of money if we just eliminated ambulance service”. Our county is rural with no hospital, so we have been paying a hospital in a neighboring county an annual subsidy to keep paramedic service here. This commissioner went on to mention as examples people who had driven themselves to the hospital – a 20 to 30 minute ride. Would be quite an accomplishment with a broken femur or stroke, etc. Several of us spend a couple of days e-mailing every citizen we had addresses for to get this stupid proposal stopped. Did I mention this commissioner is a repub? “Compassionate” conservatism at its best!
Welcome to Booman Indianadem! Make sure to check out the Froggy Bottom Cafe to say hello, we’re a friendly group here.
Eliminate ambulance service?!? That is beyond comprehension. I’m sure he voted for a pay raise for himself recently too…
Thanks – happy to be here.
Welcome Indianadem :o)
Good on you for holding the line against people like that. It’s great that you are so active and engaged.
Thanks – there’s lots can be done on the local level, even by the minority and sometimes all those small things add up to surprise you in the end. I’ve had to give myself an extra push from behind many times in order to speak out, as I was terrified of making a big mistake and looking like an idiot in public, but it’s becoming easier with practice and age… lol!
least we forget:
He has sparked controversy in the past by praying for God to create vacancies on the Supreme Court; calling Muhammad, the Muslim prophet, a “robber and brigand”; defending Liberian warlord Charles Taylor; and agreeing with Jerry Falwell that the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were God’s punishment for “pagans, abortionists, feminists, gays, lesbians, the ACLU and the People for the American Way.”
