Come on in and join the party!
My oldest son Randy is turning thirteen tomorrow! My first teenager!

So, help yourself to a cupcake! (I made chocolate, because I think I’ll be needing the biochemical boost that it comes with!)
Basic Chocolate Ganache (see below), chilled at least 1 hour
Cinnamon Crème Anglaise (see below)
Vegetable oil spray for misting the pans
All-purpose flour for dusting the pans
1 package (18.25 ounces) plain devil’s food cake mix
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
And instead of happy birthday, how about we sing his favorite lullaby, the one he’s been hearing me sing since before he was born?
Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you’re older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him,
Take your time, it won’t be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There’ll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
-Joni Mitchell
And the chorus from an Amy Rigby song that says how I really feel about him:
Don’t ever change
Hey I love you, you’re perfect, don’t ever change
Don’t ever change
Happy birthday to Randy, and to anyone else with a recent or upcoming birthday! (And what do you think the google ads will have for us to click today?)
Here’s what I’m having:

Chocolate Martini
1 1/2 oz Stoli® Vanil vodka
1 oz Godiva® chocolate liqueur
1 cherry
Mix vanilla vodka and chocolate liqueur in shaker filled with ice. Strain into either wine glass or martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.
happy 13th birthday for your son. Wow you have become parent of a teenager, welcome to my world.
Teenager!!!
OMG, CabinGirl, I’m about to face having my first teenager, too. LADOR day weekend, no less LOL
We can coddle each others “am I really that old??!!??” thoughts when we are pj-ing it together with Tracy in D. Frikken C. 🙂
Beautiful Tribute!!!! galdarnit… you got my eyes all steamed up. 🙂
And I can discuss sixteen year old daughter’s who can’t decide whether they love you or wish more life insurance on you.
I’ve got the treats…
Been waiting for the morning Cafe to say a quick “Au revoir” — got to pack up the computer soon for the trip south. Actually got to pack up everything…or at least what I can, since we’ve still got one more batch of laundry to do before the trip.
Good news — I came up with a sample page layout template, and emailed it over to my “client” (aka the exBF) for him and his friend to poke holes in. Came out pretty well, if I say so myself. 🙂
Well, need to sign off and start packing…will be checking in during the week…
Hi Cali! Glad I got this up before you left…are you telling us where in the south the big trip will take you?
Glad you got a start on your project before you left-
We’ll miss you!
I’ve got exciting news for the Froggy Bottom Cafe.
Last night I had a conference call with a bunch of Philadephia area bloggers and activists, including Chris Bowers of MyDD.
We are working on the Southeastern Pennsylvania Insurgency. This involves helping to build the blogs and netroots strategies of five democratic congressional candidates that are running for four Republican-held seats in the Philadelphia suburbs.
One of those candidates is going to do something different. Rather than posting a diary, they are going to make their entrance in the Froggy Bottom Cafe.
This will probably happen on Tuesday, September 6th (or Wednesday, 9/1, if they aren’t available on Tuesday).
For now, I’ll keep their identity a secret, but before they visit us, I’ll get together with whoever has signed up to do the cafe and we’ll offer a warm welcome wagon.
Sound exciting?
I love the idea! And not just because I’m from the Philly area!
Just so you know, Man Eegee is signed up for Tuesdays, and Abbott usually does Wednesdays.
What a wonderful development Booman, I am happy to see some netroots begin to evolve and some strategies become a reality.
I look forward to meeting our surprise guest.
thank you for making this commnunity a reality
And it thrills me, though I too don’t live in the Philly area. Could this be like when John Edwards announced his candidacy on The Daily Show?
Oh, and I think Tuesdays usually belong to Diane. No one would be more appropriate for a warm welcome & FBC that day than she.
Booman, I just had an idea with regards to this, why don’t ‘you’ be guest host for the day this is to be done.
I think it would be sooooo great for all of us fans of yours to have you take a turn and that would seem the perfect time.
Matter of fact I will send you invite from our organizing site so you can let us know dates and we can conform to whatever works best with your dates. When we post on that site, message goes to all members of hosting committee.
Booman could you email me the address you are using now…then i will send invite.
but I like how you all do it. I think one of you should have the honor. My email is at the bottom right of the page.
I tried to send the invite, but (yahoo) program says not valid email address, using the one at bottom of page.
use my gmail address. Otherwise, I’ll email you.
We love ya and you know that, but… I too think it would be best if it was left up to others.
I mean, it’s your blog and all 🙂 but… I think alot says about a person by who they surround themselves with and what those people create and do.
I can’t explain it – not enough coffee in my blonde being yet today.
I’ll be nice… as long as they FedEx us all some warm Soft Pretzels 🙂 Extra salt, please
Gawd I miss Philly!
And Liberals can ride a bike and eat pretzels at the same time… with a friend on the handle bars who is sucking down a slurpie from the money gained in collecting a few recyclables. 🙂
That is so cool. If you start having The Suits show up though I suppose I’ll to give up diaries with Motherfucker in their title. Darn it! Becoming relevant has a price, I know I know
That’s AWESOME! I am slated to host on Tuesdays so let me know what you need. This is great news.
😉
maybe we could all chip in with a small contribution (a pic or a small welcome note) to make an uber-FBC cafe!!!
An über-Café in the Nietzschean sense, even! A paragon of all the best attributes of the progressive blogosphere.
is there a tag for that?
I hit good ol’ Option-U and Unicode takes care of the rest. But the HTML character codes would be
Ü
andü
for upper- and lower-case u-umlaut, respectively. Alternatively,Ü
andü
.Nerves? I laugh in the face of nerves! Bwahaha. Now where did I put that yack bucket? And why is my knee locking? Is it hot in here or is it just me?
<pass out>
Thud.
sh*t. there don’t appear to be smelling salts in the character map…
Or else someone say something so outrageous it will shock him back to consciousness! Like, “The Democratic Leadership Council has the right ideas for moving our party and country forward!” <slap slap> Hear that, ManE? “Hooray for the DLC!” Was that not outrageous enough?
Thanks Brother, that incantation was enough to raise the dead.
Just be careful: I heard once that chanting “Democratic Leadership Council” three times in succession will summon them to your current location:

Congressional districts are SMALL. We can really make a difference in these races, all of us newbies to this political activism thing. And don’t forget – articles of impeachment must originate in the House!
This is so great! Thanks for your vote of confidence in us, Boo! We’ll make your Mystery Guest feel welcome.
And may all MY wishes come true so that we never need to smuggle you across any borders in five years!
Alaskan spotteds are still in the markets hereabouts so everybody help yourselves.
I’ve recently had a birthday–my Draft Number Birthday. That’s 50’s, and I missed induction only by pure, dumb luck.
I well remember Joni Mitchell’s song. Maybe it was the times, but I think my dreams were grander than ever when I was in my 20’s, and by the time I hit 50 I’d accomplished some things I never thought to dream earlier. So
New Deal mom is still with us although slowing down. She was quite a mom in the early years–she loved the b’jeebus out of our childhoods, but at the same time was eager to see us grow into adults. It must have paid off because we’ve been great friends ever since, and she & Mrs. Gooserock adore each other.
So with my 2nd morning tea I’ll offer a toast to motherhood and friendship!
Happy belated birthday, Gooserock!
I remember the first time my son heard the Joni Mitchell song on the radio and realized that it was the same song mom sang him at bedtime. He was about 2 and we were at the beach in Cape May with friends.
Thanks for the prawns…now where’s the cocktail sauce in this joint?
some of the John Stewart stuff that I have missed these past months. There just isn’t enough hours in my day to make sure that I always include him too. Surprising to me I saw a Matt Taibbi interview in the clips. I had no idea how cool Matt Taibbi is. I had no idea that he had written a book titled “Spanking the Donkey”. I had no idea that he followed Kerry around in a gorilla suit. I had no idea that he thought that Kerry was a really sucky choice for us to make long before any of the rest of us were willing to admit it. I just loved him because he challenged that wacko talk radio dude at Crawford who said they were throwing rocks at him and making death threats. He did use my phone you know guys…..he did, he held it and dialed it and even breathed on it……and sadly I have washed it at least two times now since then! BUMMER
Today AlohaLeeze embarks on her journey to Crawford. WHOOOT!!!!
I think the BooMan has the record for most bloggers getting their marching orders 🙂
Anyone in contact with her? Phone? Mail? So we can get reports? And plus… cause we lova lova lova love her.
You know it!
And you know I and others freakin’ bawled our eyes out with pride and love when we saw you and Janet Strange and Bri and Supersoling and Rick on the pages of here and there with your stories.
My friend called me from San Jose to tell me she saw your picture, Tracy. 😉
It was a completely selfish exploit! I did it for me and it was so wonderful and I got to share it with you guys.
purple nurple.
Not selfish. I mean, yeah we go there for our own personal reasons for a collective message, but wanting to stop the killing and the lying is not selfish. That’s like saying Love is selfish. 🙂
Activism (or whatever one wants to call it) is odd like that – you always feel like get so much more than what you tried to give to/for others.
There is only one true power. Love. And that is a power because it can be shared while it is given or received.
🙂
When the power of love overcomes the love
of power the world will know peace.” Jimi Hendrix
overcome the power is really a rush too. Now Peace House is paid for also….they paid the mortgage off with the recent donations. Bush will never be able to get rid of them! I think they need one of those bathroom facility trailers though. My husband told me that the Army is using them now. He told me that a shower and familiar plumbing does a lot for troop moral and I can’t think of more deserving troops than those who are peacefully occupying Crawford.
She’s coming in to Austin about 2 this afternoon and I’m supposed to be at brinnainne’s house about 3ish to meet her. This is so cool! I’m really lucking out here since Austin is the logical place to fly (or drive) to if you’re headed to Crawford, so I got to meet Tracy (Hi Tracy!!!!) and now I’ll get to meet ‘leezy too! Wish I could share my geographical good fortune.
[I guess it’s some consolation for having that drugstore cowboy, pseudo-“Texan” (he’s not a Texan!!! He was born in CN!! Take him back!!!) just up the road.]
adastra (Rick) may make it there too – maybe not – he has a job training thingie this afternoon. Just got up and put my camera in my purse in case he doesn’t make it to brinnainne’s house. I’ll post pics if ‘leezy says it’s OK.
I’m planning to go to Crawford tomorrow for the rally and BBQ – I haven’t been yet – lots of you seem to think I did cuz you saw pics of me with Tracy and brinnainne – but that was at brinnainne’s house. I left for BC the next day – and missed meeting supersoling. 🙁
My favorite comment about “going to Crawford” for those of us close by – at the Keep Austin Blue meeting last Wed. a guy said, “Go to Crawford this weekend! C’mon folks, you know in a few years you’re going to be saying you did even if you didn’t, so you might as well go and make it a true story you’re going to be telling.”
Happy Birthday to your son CabinGirl! Thx for sharing that song, I had never heard it before
Happy birthday to Randy. Exiting times ahead both for the kid and the parent(s).
Got my Boo-gear yesterday, yay. Coffee-mug installed in the office – T-shirt goes on tomorrow. Support the BT – visit the store!
Okay I finally did it.
I went from “All men are created equal, some just stick out more” 🙂
to the below.
Tell me the truth… Does it make my butt look big?? 🙂
You have my total approval! Have a 4!
and, no, not from this angle.
“Stick out” reminds me that it’s Friday, so Randi Rhodes’ program intro today will be the song “Bounce Your Boobies.”
Great, now I have the Scissors Sisters stuck in my head (you know the one, “Tits on the radio”…)
I love it Damnit, and I can’t even see your butt.
I love it!
I’m all in favor of as many musically inspired sig lines as possible 🙂
–but I just can’t let MLK go– is:
“And on the 13th day, Satan created reeds.”
Ask your local oboist or sax player. Or any of their bandmates!
[“It’s not my fault–it’s the REEE-eeeed!” –Lisa Simpson]
Heh. I get it 🙂
I think Satan may have also inspired the Floyd Rose floating tremolo system on guitars…Useful if you like to rip at your whammy bar a lot, but otherwise just makes it a pain in the butt to tune and replace strings….
of this?
Anyone got anything else they were planning to do instead?
That should draw an interesting crowd, I’ll make sure to change my sandals before entering the chaos. 😛
I think it’s a great idea. I’ll probably flash some photos the day before this whole thing happes and see what happens 🙂 Can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with.
I didn’t see the metal mosh pit post at first – I was somehow taken to the photo contest site so replied about that – not the metla mosh LOL
sorry for the blondefusion 🙂
I thought that was a done deal ejmw….not sure what it is tho…I know a mosh pit, but online…
I just wanted to make sure 🙂
It’s a done deal now! I’ll start putting it together…
Well, are we off to mosh, then? Say the word, and I’ll close this joint down…
Nope, not yet. I’ll need a little while to put it together.
Look for it around 6:00 – 6:30 Eastern Time or so. I’ll stop back in here to let everyone know too.
I’ll keep an eye out for you, then!
Come on over!
You heard him folks-time to go mosh!
