There is no doubt whatsoever that this disaster had been predicted.
We should go back to that FEMA assessment from 2001 which identified the 3 largest catastrophes (terrorist attack in NY, hurricane in NO and earthquake in SF). 2 have already happened under Bush, maybe we should prepare seriously for the third one happening in the next 3 years?
Yes. I turned on my TV just now, and it’s still tuned to ABC because i watched Nightline before I went to sleep … Diane Sawyer and Charlie [last name] are BASHING Bush and the fed. government .. they are, just like every journalist we have seen, utterly and openly furious that Bush did NOT KNOW about this problem.
There’ve been reports for years, but I heard about it in depth in 2003 on CSPAN2 when I watched the author of Bayou Farewell lament the disappearance of Louisiana, which he predicted could be under water in the very near future. He was such a speaker that he made an indelible imprint on my brain. I was sickened as he talked about the levee system has totally screwed up the Mississippi River and all surrounding environs … and the Gulf :(.
When I read about George Bush II in 1999, I read that he liked to spend his mornings, after he jogged, playing Windows Solitaire and watching ESPN2.
As if the risk to human lives weren’t enough, the potential drowning of New Orleans has serious economic and environmental consequences as well. Louisiana’s coast produces one third of the country’s seafood, one fifth of its oil and one quarter of its natural gas. It harbors 40 percent of the nation’s coastal wetlands and provides wintering grounds for 70 percent of its migratory waterfowl. Facilities on the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Baton Rouge constitute the nation’s largest port. And the delta fuels a unique element of America’s psyche; it is the wellspring of jazz and blues, the source of everything Cajun and Creole, and the home of Mardi Gras. Thus far, however, Washington has turned down appeals for substantial aid.
Condi was too busy shopping at the time, to read it to GWB.
The low-lying Mississippi Delta, which buffers the city from the gulf, is also rapidly disappearing. A year from now another 25 to 30 square miles of delta marsh–an area the size of Manhattan–will have vanished. An acre disappears every 24 minutes.
Each loss gives a storm surge a clearer path to wash over the delta and pour into the bowl, trapping one million people inside and another million in surrounding communities. Extensive evacuation would be impossible because the surging water would cut off the few escape routes.
Oh yes – but this is science from Louisiana State University – Bush has abolished the sciences ’cause they create fear amongst creationists.
PBS, National Geographic, Scientific American, Popular Mechanics are not academic; they are popular media in understandable language available to anyone. There is no excuse for the Federal Government not to know.
On top of that there were multiple appeals to the Bush administration to save NOLA from sinking/drowning.

Fucking ignoramus.
bashing their dear leader.
Bush doesn’t read…oh, sorry, nothing above the level of “My Pet Goat”…
“No one could have predicted that the levees would fail” is now his legacy, permanently to be tattooed to his presidential record…
He was actually reading my pet goat when this one came out, erie.
The issue date is what is so creepy.
