ROME
How Titus Pullo Brought Down the Republic
9 pm Sunday
Anointed People’s Tribune by Caesar, Mark Antony returns to Rome with Octavian’s liberators, Vorenus and Pullo..
Catch the re-air of the previous week’s episode of HBO’s new original series, Sundays at 8 pm.
(Kind of a quick and dirty diary … like those Romans.)
I was hoping someone could tell me what they did to that guy’s head. And why?
Was he poisoned? What?
I think that was brain surgery. Remember in the bar fight he got whacked over the head pretty hard. The surgeon drilled a hole in his skull, removed something (a bone fragment, maybe?), and then closed the hole with a metal plate.
Pretty amazing that he was back on a horse before the episode ended. Tough guy, that Titus Pullo.
I think to release the pressure from the swelling from getting hit on the head.
I found this link which describes something they called Trepanation:
Trepanation has an incredibly long history, going back well into the bronze age. Most skulls found showing signs of the operations reveal that the patient survived certainly long enough for the bone roundthe edge of the holeto start healing.
By the way, is this a BBC co-produuction with HBO (as in the Beeb film it and HBO gives them the money) or what? Our TV seasons are different to your’s so it has not aired yet.
yes it is.
I love it. I’ve always been a sucker for good historical fiction. I learned more history from Thomas B. Costain than I did in school. I am having a little cognitive dissonance over the British accents. Silly, I know, but it would seem more realistic to me if they sounded Italian.
Oh, and the animated grafitti in the opening credits are a hoot.
