I’m working on your adoption papers. Ah hell, who am I kidding? I can’t even get out of Texas so I shouldn’t offer to take you all with me…but I would..
Don’t forget the little tiny adoption papers for the boys and the animals!
😉
We can’t go anywhere for at least a year either, but hey, in the meantime, we could start a Texas Independence Movement — it’s been done before! First we elect Kinky president (er, governor) and then we declare ourselves our own country!!
PS K, are you doing ok today? I was so sorry to hear about all of that BS yesterday (I sent you an email).
I am doing everything in my power to make that happen (been collecting signatures for a while) — I have no idea whether or not he has a shot — people are drooling all over Bell on dKos, but I am suspicious of him on a number of points and I won’t be voting for him…Kinky had me at “Why the hell not?”
I’m okay today – although I was up all night with child #2. Stomach bug. Not fun.
I’m in for breaking away from the country – I think Kinky is a hoot and I’d love to see a straight shooter rather than the Haircut…but I understand that the Dem candidate is a good man too. Would be nice to make some major changes around here.
unless you’re hauling sandbags or doing hellicopter rescues or bringing food and water to the stranded people you should just get the fuck out of there. The photo ops are making me sick – get to work or get the fuck out.
(sorry about the profanity, I’m slowly going crazy)
I’ve just been reading a bit about the scathing report the UN has put out saying that the US better clean up its own front yard before complaining about the neighbors. Check out this great diary:
I apologize for the long links, but I am an idiot when it comes to HTML.
Infant mortality is on the rise in the U.S. since Bush took office. I think this should be repeated ad nauseum in the coming 2006 elections.
It’s becoming clear why Bush pushed Bolton into place. Thankfully, the rest of the world is not taking the Bully’s shit. Let’s hope they can continue to stand up to him.
BBC News – Car bomb attack kills 16 in Basra
Although focused on the tragedy and thousands of American lives lost on Gulf Coast, the Iraq War has worsened this week in the region of Basra.
The explosion took place on Wednesday evening outside a restaurant near the city centre which was packed with members of the Iraqi security forces. It was the worst car bombing in Basra since the US-led invasion in 2003.
The attack follows the killing of four US security guards and two British soldiers in separate incidents near Basra earlier this week.
BASRA Sept. 8, 2005 — Two bomb blasts shook the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Wednesday, killing at least 17 people, including four American security contractors traveling in a U.S. diplomatic convoy.
The first attack came in the morning, when a makeshift bomb was detonated as the U.S. convoy was traveling in the city, according to a statement by U.S. Embassy spokesman Peter Mitchell in Baghdad.
An armed Westerner and Iraqi policemen and soldiers secure the scene after a convoy was hit by a roadside bomb in the southern Iraq city of Basra. A car bomb shattered the relative peace of the southern Iraqi city of Basra after dark on Wednesday, killing 12 people and wounding 22 in a district packed with restaurants and a market, hospital sources said. I was over st Steve Gilliard’s place and read his entry “Arbiet Macht Frei Oklahoma.”
You two are the blog world’s equivalent of Greg Palast, Firas al Atrachi, Robert Fisk and Chris Floyd all rolled up into good working package, at least in my estimation.
Could you confirm and try to get photos of this horrifying enormity for us please.
We are not talking about refugees dumped on us from abroad who could not communicate and might be in danger because of no communication skills. We are talking about American citizens being incarcerated for apparently being mostly black, poor, and driven from their homes by a huge storm.
Is this the level of petty vindictiveness we can expect from the Bush administration? Is this the way American citizens are treated by Republicans, who often tout loudly how “pro-American they are?
Any assistance you can give in this story will be greatly appreciated.
I do have a name for the internment camp in Oklahoma though. We can call it the “Michelle Malkin Disaster Relocation Center.” I am sure that after you read Steve Gilliard’s posting, you will agree that Michelle would become “excited” in a way better described by “The Rude Pundit.”
Parker this is just incredible. We cannot allow anymore people to be shipped out of Houston or TX or wherever. These are going to be the death of these poor people. I want answers now. This must get to the media immediatly. Oh my God! What have they done with my country? Where is the outrage?
What is anyone doing about this? Can we email these stories to our reps? Is the whole world collapsing around us while we do absolutely f’ing nothing? These people have rights and they are being violated every minute.
A CBS News poll said 65 percent Americans thought Bush was too slow to respond to the disaster and 58 percent disapproved of his performance. Large majorities said federal, state and local officials all acted too slowly.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, scorched by criticism of its performance, had planned to hand out $2,000 debit cards — $100 million worth in total — to thousands of survivors, but they too were being delayed.

Previous polls asked the wrong questions like “Who’s to blame?” confusing people who thought “Who’s to blame for the hurricane?” This one asked “Was Bush too slow?”
Announcer’s Voice: That was episode two of ‘The Death of Mary, Queen of Scots’, adapted for radio by Bernard Hollowood and Brian London. And now, Radio Four will explode. (the radio explodes)
First Pepperpot: We’ll have to watch the telly then.
Second Pepperpot: Yes
(The pepperpots swivel round to look at the TV set in the corner of the room.)
First Pepperpot: What’s that on the tellevision then?
Second Pepperpot: Looks like a penguin.
(On the TV set there is indeed a penguin. It sits contendedly looking at them in a stuffed sort of way. There is nothing on the screen.)
First Pepperpot: No, no, no, I didn’t mean what’s on the television set, I meant what programme.
Second Pepperpot: Oh.
(The second pepperpot goes to the TV, switches it on and returns to her chair. The set takes a long time to warm up and produce a picture. During this pause the following conversation takes place:)
Second Pepperpot: It’s funny that penguin being there innit? What’s it doing there?
First Pepperpot: Standing.
Second Pepperpot: I can see that!
First Pepperpot: If it lays an egg, it will fall down the back of the television set.
Second Pepperpot: We’ll have to watch that. Unless it’s a male.
First Pepperpot: Ooh, I never thought of that.
Second Pepperpot: Yes, looks fairly butch.
First Pepperpot: Per’aps it’s from next door.
Second Pepperpot: Penguins don’t come from next door, they come from the Antarctic.
First Pepperpot: Burma.
Second Pepperpot: Why did you say Burma?
First Pepperpot: I panicked.
Second Pepperpot: Oh. Perhaps it’s from the zoo.
First Pepperpot: Which zoo?
Second Pepperpot: How should I know which zoo? I’m not Doctor bloody Bernowski.
First Pepperpot: How does Doctor Bernowski know which zoo it came from?
Second Pepperpot: He knows everything.
First Pepperpot: Oooh, I wouldn’t like that, that’d take all the mystery out of life. Anyway, if it came from the zoo, it would have ‘property of the zoo’ stamped on it.
Second Pepperpot: No it wouldn’t. They don’t stamp animals ‘property of the zoo’. You can’t stamp a huge lion.
First Pepperpot: They stamp them when they’re small.
Second Pepperpot: What happens when they moult?
First Pepperpot: Lions don’t moult.
Second Pepperpot: No, but penguins do. There, I’ve run rings around you logically.
First Pepperpot: Oh, intercourse the penguin.
(On the TV screen there now appears an announcer.)
TV Announcer: It’s just gone 8 o’clock and time for the penguin on top of your television set to explode.
(The penguin on top of the set now explodes.)
First Pepperpot: How did he know that was going to happen?!
TV Announcer: It was an inspired guess. And now…
(Cut to picture of a shin.)
Haina or No? (Local saying, normal response is a hearty “Haina”)Like molasses in January… Haina? So much to read. On a normal day I get a little restless when this happens, but today I’m like a tourist doing a jig on boiling hot sand. I hate dial up. By the time I get on to a page half of my thought is gone, then I immediately find something new to be wild about. Maybe I should go for a walk. Haina or No?
same on dsl so something is off today. I get no response sometimes or it takes forever to load a comment or change to a new diary. Anyone know what is going on?
Check out this story about Canadian search and rescue teams in St. Bernard Parish……
Can I start paying my taxes to Canada?
That’s it, I’m going to Canada…they’ve got Catnip, Sybil, Zander, and a real disaster response team. What more could one want?
So, Vancouver, Montreal, or Toronto?

I also just got this story from Susan T in Michigan… gotta front-page it, with thanks to both of you.
Now you know why the Vancouver Rescue team was refused initially. FEMA didn’t want anyone showing them up.
The title of this article – did anyone hear that a survivor in Miss, came up to Cheney and said TWICE:
“Go fuck yourself, Mr. Cheney!”
rawstory.com – check it out.
He must have Canadian blood in him.
If he did have Canadian blood in him he’d have said “Please go fuck yourself, Mr Cheney”
Good Lord, woman! Get out the prophylactics post haste!
Damn, it broke.
Well, that’s actually good .. I just pushed him in the toxic soup! :):)
Right where he belongs…he’s probably immune to it, though.
Better be quick, I doubt he’ll be able to hold himself back for more than a minute after he sees all those corpses…
Ewwww…

for those of you unfamiliar with Clinton Fein, I point you to his September 5 Editorial, Execution adn Evacuation by way of introduction.
I hope you like, and will explore around the site a bit — he helped me keep my sanity after 9/11/01 and may perhaps serve some of you as well.

Big Dick cancelled his trip to Canada. Thank you Katrina.
Gloria Borger on CBS news tonight made the following statements:
-Unlike after 9/11, the nation is not rallying around the President after Katrina.
-It may be because the enemy this time is not a person but incompetence.
Somehow I don’t think that made any friends over at the White House. It is a little extreme for the SCLM.
And yes, I loved it!
