The Cafe is open for business! Sorry for the late start everyone, I didn’t get a chance to upload this last night before I crashed into my pillow. Enjoy the barbeque!
Hey you! You over there, lurking in the corner! Come grab a bite to eat and say hi!
I’m more of a night-owl too but after a long weekend of groomsman duties for close friends, I was tapped out last night. What type of cactus is that? I’m a big fan of night-blooming greenery.
We’ve always thought it was a Night Blooming Cereus. I swiped a leaf from an office plant about 20 years ago and its been with us ever since. I’ll try for some pix when it opens. The blooms are really spectacular.
g’morn’n Manee, and Tribbers, hope all goes well your world today, and may the winds of change take the deserving in front of judicial trials, and then deliver them to the crowds of the inflicted for their just punishment, being stoned comes to mind, and I’m not talk’n bout the red-eyed smil’n kind either ; )
(I gots me a whooooolllllle bucket of rocks, nice round’ens, and dayumed hard)
dayum, that calls for a coffee/Baileys….HOOOOOOOOOOOO LAAAAAAAAWWDD
Since iPig brought up rocks, here’s a couple of “stone piles” :
Stone cairn, Colorado River
Stone cairns: Andy Goldsworthy
BTW: anyone else experiencing trouble loading the site? The site meter and ads are reallllllly sloooooowing things on my mac. [osx2.8 safari…if that matters]
Toto. Bred to hunt vermin out of Scottish burial cairns and stone fences. They sometimes play with rocks, and love to chase rocks or balls that are bowled along the ground, hopping like mice or bunnies.
Those stone piles… there’s someone up on our mountain who does those. Never see them being made but they’re always along roads. Has an “alien” feel to it when one sees them.
But yeah, let’s stone em all. And not in a Bob Dylan, everybody must get stoned – kinda way. Although I think several republicans should smoke a few bones every now and then and that way they’d lighten up on us all and quit killing people and our planet…
DJ, most times those are offerings and soulstice for the spirits of which has been disturbed, grounds that is.
A few years back I was superentendent on a highway job, the I-26 cut from Tn – NC, and we took the mountain down over 875ft in elevation.
On the job there was a Native American living near that would always place the stones and sticks during the night hours, as a blessing for the spirits disturbed.
Most of the others on the job did not like him, and tried to run him off many times. I however talked with him, and we became quite good friends, and passed the “pipe” some as well ; )
The fortune and the blessing did well, as the project was finished way ahead of schedule, and way under budget.
I still visit him from time to time when I go to my cabin in the mountains there. We have adopted each other’s clan, quite an iteresting character to say the least, and an excellent medicine man. We still share much together these days as he has visited me here at the swamp.
So when you see them, do not be alarmed, they are “good medicine” and a blessing for Earth Mother, and the Human Beings.
Ipig, one of the ‘great elders’ of our bootribe, thanks for being here, writing here, but most of all for dispensing your wisdom here! You are greatly appreciated.
Now let’s see, who would be the other ‘elders’; ghost, scribe, susanhu, shirlstars, sallycat, Janet Strange, myself and many others; the wisdom of the elders is sorely needed at this time, me thinks. Should we start a council of the ‘elders’ on booman? I am seriously asking the question!
Ours drinks water out of everybody’s water glass. So now Wayne puts a glass of water just for Kitty by his bedside and drinks out of a bottle of water himself.
Reasonable, huh? 🙂
Hope your days become smoother, cause we miss ya dearly 🙂
feed the kitty cats canned food along with dry…they get their water intake from the canned food.
I tried giving my cat a “canned” food, but it comes in a plastic packet. It has lots of gravy. Kitty cat loved it…he licked up all the gravy and left ALL of the meaty bits to waste…
Even with canned food twice a day and kibble my silly cat just likes ‘different water’. The puddle from the neighbors sprinklers, the puddles after rainstorms, the bottom of the bathtub, the sink faucet if it drips, the toilet…
I keep his bowl full and fresh daily…and leave the toilet lid up for him anyway….silly cat!
Other than that… my butt bones hurt. Was hunkered down painting damn deck rails yesterday… and I woke up to realizing that my ass has bones/muscles I didn’t know about ACK LOL
The project is remodeling the house so we can put it on the market. So it will NEVER be done LOL. Still have the side of the rails that are in by the rose bushes… Thorny wild ass rose bushes. I might cut them down… so I can get in there better.
What’s with painting all day… and then when you go to sleep.. you freaking DREAM of painting?? LOL ACK
crud, I blew it on the movie picture…
son’s IEP is today so I’m still “on fire” mode. He broke his laptop yesterday. The latch thingy that closes it broke. ACK
works for everything…just ask the new FEMA head… 😉 [And good luck with the IEP; remember deciphering a few of those when I was determining eligibility for our services at the non-profit I worked for…]
Intention in the Scribe household was to be up at 5am, go exercise together (on the treadmills…not as fun as that phrase sounded), then hit the grocery stores when they’re nice and empty — that was the time my mom always shopped. Unfortunately, the spouse forgot to turn on his alarm, and I assumed he had so didn’t turn mine on. We really need to get back on track — he’s not going to be off work forever (please please please!), so needs to get used to getting to bed on time/getting up on time. And I need to get back into a routine as well; I’ve been taking after him and vegging waaay too much, probably why the energy level has been low…no incentive to get it back up.
Hopefully we’ll get out of here in the next 10 hours…no guarantees though. 🙁
Glad I hit “reload” before I started bitching about the missing Cafe, ManEE… 🙂
I’m notorious for hitting the snooze button on the alarm; I’m sure my apartment neighbors love me. hmmmm, maybe that’s why I had a dead mouse left at my door; unless it was one the cats roaming the cafe today?! 😉
thought I’d share a photo of the construction pile near my office.
why?
It’s been overtaken by sunflowers had has become a very peaceful place to take a stroll. Lot’s of flowers, butterflies, a handful of other plants (many officially weeds, but pretty nonetheless)
Glad you enjoy them, I enjoy shooting and sharing – as some point I really need to do something more formal – maybe the BooTrib photo fair will spark doing something (but given how busy I am already – probably not 🙂 Great to have a space to share here in the cafe occasionally.
I use a Canon Powershot G2
4.0 megapixel
High end when I bought, but it’s getting a bit dated (model about 6-7 years old now) – but I’d rather have it than any of the replacements (even money I’d probably switch to a G6 but I can’t find anyone who wants to give those away 🙂
At some point I’ll likely upgrade to a digital SLR (maybe a used Canon 10D or something – since it’s just a hobby I can’t possibly justify the new 20D, etc) – but I’m very fond of the G2 – and a solid Canon guy – I just find their lenses to be superior. I’ve probably taken 30,000 photos with the G2 in the last 5 years (I know I’ve done 6K each of the last two vacations).
My wife and brother have S410’s – paid about 1/4 of what I did (in late 99) for similar features (but smaller lens) – so they can take pretty nice snapshots – but the G2’s much better for closeups, etc.
Just bought a new Canon EOS Rebel XT [aka 350d] digital…8MP SLR. my first venture into the age of digital photography. Haven’t used it enough yet to be comfortable w/ it, but so far very good results. I’m a 30+year Canon fan…have been using a FTb film SLR since @ ’74, great lenses, extremely reliable cameras under just about any condition. The Rxt, is considered the best value of all the cameras I researched for under $1k.
A good place to find a great price on this as well as other photo, video stuff is B&H Photo, very reputable, very good service whenever I’ve dealt w/ them.
I have a 5 MP Sony W-1 that works fine for my (push here, dummy) purposes, but I like the close-ups you’re able to get with your Canon…amd since Dada is another one of my many favorite BT photographers and uses a Canon too, maybe I’ll check them out next time around.
We appeared to be having a cool sunny autumn morning in our neighborhood, but just over the hill as we drove Mrs. Gooserock to work we ran into a wall of mist under the blue sky.
I’m not moved by Seattle 1090’s new progressive lineup so I’m streaming Al Franken live in what for us is the 9-noon slot. He just did a sketch of Michael Brown resigning for a 2nd time. I wonder how many of his audience recognize the inspiration from Bob & Ray comdedy routines. I believe the inspiration of this was called “Sore Loser” [don’t have my album nearby bot check]. He’s also drawn from one of my all-time favorite sketches of theirs, “The Slow Talker.” If you ever find it anywhere you must hear it.
Well, time to brew my 3rd tea and get back to the shop to prep a couple of shipments.
It a piece I have been working on for the past two weeks — don’t know when it’ll be ready to post but I just wanted to write that out and see how it looked.
Smallest got his Hep A shot this a.m. — oh, but he hates shots! I just wrote a check for 233$ for THIS WEEK’S daycare…and have a full day of doing bankruptcy paperwork before all of the boys get home…yeeehaah!
I contracted Hep A doing renovation work in a neighborhood where a day care center had an epidemic. Probably I picked it up eating lunch on the site without proper hand washing.
Cost me 3 months work, ultimately the job; altogether a very unfun year, though fortunately it led me to university employment & eventually programming.
So parents, get your kids their shots–and everyone, wash those hands! Now you can say you know someone who got seriously sick for not doing what his mommy taught him!
Kinda burning out halfway down the thread with the reloading– is there a way to just hand out the 4’s for the whole shebang?
Oh yeah–tapping paw waiting for my T-shirts,although the UPS guy usually comes around 3-ish -4-ish—I swear the people next door buy their groceries thru-UPS or FEDEX-one day there was nearly a collision between the two trucks.
Got my book from Powell’s yesterday. 🙂 (Also got last delivery from Amazon…sorry, but Powell’s didn’t have it; it’s a book on the Disneyland Railroad and Amazon was the only place that had it.)
I noticed under the candy section that all the candy was RED – ACK!!!
What we do here is we purchase from chocolatebar.com the Endangered Species Choc Bars. All sorts of flavors. We just had the iPig and GDW bar. The Wolf Bar has a pix of two wolves on it (dark choc with crabberries and almonds)
Instead of bday cards – which imho are a waste of money and cost MORE than these bars – we give friends these bars.
They call it “chocolate with a cause”. Shirly, don’t call me shirley, they must be on the blue side of life(?) 🙂
In Veruca Salt mode: Whoever heard of a CRABberry!?!?!? 🙂
Cranberry…
and I did one better than just buying from them (I see their site is down) I insisted my local store order them and stock them. LIke what I did with Tazo tea (another gem from Oregon)
I’ll do some more checking….my current solution is to buy very limited quantities of chocolate – and then buy imported.
Sometimes I recommend the lesser of two evils when it comes to red companies. For example – WalMart and Target. Both give 100% red…but Target gives 200k to WalMart’s millions.
Recommendation – check out the new format on the website and pick a company that is environmentally and labor friendly, even if their political dollars are red.

I also made arrangements for a salad bar in case we have any vegetarians in the crowd. Buen Provecho!
Why do cat’s drink from whatever is handy and not the fresh water bowl?
No answer required….rhetorical….

I think that kitty is drinking a hella-large Midori Margarita (no salt) out there on the Patty-Oh. 🙂
You people obviously spoil your kitties, unlike moi, who never, ever cooks fresh tuna for the Kibblecat Nuisance Paine. NOOO,not me.
Gee all this time it was cooked chicken – moist little morsels – from my dinner plate….that the cat isn’t supposed to eat….
Awww gee…now I’ve got to cook tuna instead of chicken!
Slacker!

Weed definition (gardener’s dictionary) = any unwanted and/or untended plant in the garden.
You’d be amazed at the beautiful thistles that I grow…defined by some as weeds…I use them for natural skin treatments!
by the roots !
pleeeeeeeease tell me I’m not the only one who had a gutter-mind moment reading that comment. LMAO
what an oxy-MORON!
Here’s a fun tip for today:
ACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!! 🙂
So true, so true!
We appeared to be having a cool sunny autumn morning in our neighborhood, but just over the hill as we drove Mrs. Gooserock to work we ran into a wall of mist under the blue sky.

Here in the desert we don’t get much of the fog effect, it’s a dry heat, ya know.
I hope we get some type of progressive line-up soon in Tucson. I’m sick of seeing billboards with Hannity smirking all over the place.
Love ya’ll!
Good luck with that paperwork brinnainne, you’ll get it done! Hope the little one isn’t too sore from the Hep A shot.
Thanks, ME, little guy is at daycare and after telling me about 50 times that he didn’t like it, seemed just fine — thanks for asking!!
Noce cafe today, btw!
Now you can say you know someone who got seriously sick for not doing what his mommy taught him!
well actually I can’t since my area lacks oceans, mountains, and slugs but as mehitabel would say wotthehell.
Love the pic AndiF and the sig-line quote. LOL
Howdy, I’ll need a vodka martini today, shaken not stirred, thanks.
My son would just love you 🙂
Bought him a set of plasticware martini glasses so he can drink his rootbeer from it. A “Dirtitini”
Anything for our artist-in-residence:
Wow! What service!
Let me try:
I’d like a Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan, naked – not clothed.
Did I mention that all the lights are off and there’s no windows in the room? 😀
Anyone recall when suskind was going to return? Our irish mist is getting dusty in the back store-room.
me thinks it shant be long Manee….
and he will consider the dust as a good omen of aging ; )
He said it would be anywhere from a few weeks, to a couple of months at most….so we’ll keep the bottles dusty for him…
peace

gotta go run an errand for work, be back soon. Don’t get too rowdy with Mr. Brosnan, DJ!
So Mr. Brosnan, have you ever heard of the Time Warp? 🙂
As tonight we rented ‘We Love Huckabees’
It’s a movie I liked…
other than watching the movie, how is your part of the world treatin’ you?
I’m in a series of 12 hour a day deadlines. I would need a Bush vacation – but as we all know that is Cloud-Cuckoo Land.
But no snow yet 😉
How’s everyone doing? Let me know if you’re having a hard time opening the thread, I can start an evening Cafe if we’re killing your modem.
