I just spotted this photo at the Seattle Times and immediately thought of Democrats churning cooperatively to take back power in 2006 and 2008.
What do YOU see in this photo of the “Pilobolus Dance Theatre, known for its extraordinarily physical and exuberantly collaborative athleticism”?
“Exuberantly collaborative athleticism.”
O P E N T H R E A D :
I see a picture that the Republicans would probably like to ban.
That’s so funny.
Say, speaking of censorship / artistic expression, I recommend yesterday’s — hell, any day’s — “Morning Sedition.”
God, I love Marc and Mark, and their regular wingnut visitor Laughton Childs. Yesterday, they had a guest on who helped with a documentary about the making of “Deep Throat” and all the political brouhaha that went on afterwards . I think this guy was one of the male stars of the film. He was put on trial with some real Mafia goons for pornography … i was listening as I cleaned and made the raccoons’ food … i need to listen again so I can explain it more accurately.
But it was a very fascinating history of the attempts by ‘wingers to suppress freedom of expression.
Since they’re on 3am-6am PT, I always listen to the archives at Air America Place, which has archives of ALL of the Air America shows.
ha ha..my second laugh of the day here(the other was at deminknocks diary)..or they are trying to ‘go cheney themselves’.
I would have said “brilliantly and beautifully creative. Let’s hope we can reach their level of cooperation to create a thing of beauty.
Go see them if you get a chance. Amazing!
You made a great selection of artists to symbolize our efforts. This is a group of talented people all working toward the same end. There are no stars, no corps de ballet. My kind of dance.
It’d be such a joy to see them. Lucky you! Where was that, Alice?
They often come to my hometown performing arts hall in Sarasota, Florida. It’s been a long time since I saw them – that was back in my “money is no object” days. At this point I expect I am as many years away from any future live performances as those in the past.

oh for christs sake…can these people get any more stupid? That’s certainly the way to make sure the news is taken seriously..not that we do anyway anymore and with thinking like that it’s not likely I will any time soon.
Maybe we could get some women to read the news ala Sharon Stone in Basic Instict…anyone else have any good ideas on this?
And of course he didn’t mention it being a guy taking off his clothes.
The American Security Council conducted a longstanding campaign to crush Dan Rather and CBS News.
The website was scrubbed of the foundation’s history recently.
well susan my first thought was it looks like a jesters hat to me…by the way I’ve mentioned that you seem to put up stuff I’ve saved in my morning political reading before I get here. Well now you’re doing it with words..I was just on another diary posting and had to scratch a word cause I couldn’t figure out how to spell it right..the word was ‘circuetous'(spelling? anyone) and then seconds later I come back here and you’ve got up a similar word/theme..
thank you very much ejmw..I just couldn’t seem to hit on the right combination to get it spelled right..and it was driving me crazy.
Jester’s hat is good!
I do that all the time with words. I’ve made a browser shortcut to Merriam Webster for just such times. or I’ll type the word in Google, and it’ll correct my spelling — “Did you mean to search for circuitous, you idiot?” And I’ll click on their link…. Like this morning, I wasn’t sure I’d spelled Aurora Borealis correctly, and searched Google for it. I was in luck, for once…
Can you see the Aurora Borealis from where you are? I’ve never seen it – definitely on my “to do list” before I die.
For the folks who live where they can see the Aurora Borealis, here is a link to a good site that gives you the latest on anticipated auroras, eclipses, and other “space weather.”
And here is a site you should bookmark and go to daily for inspiration / your daily dose of “wow:” Astronomy Picture of the Day. They’re a NASA site and frequently have breathtaking photos from the Hubble Space Telescope or the various probes scattered around the solar system.
In Eastern Washington, back in the 1950s, it was easy — we saw the lights all the time.
It’d probably be more difficult now because of all the night lights. Back then, it wasn’t nearly as populated. The entire county had 40,000 residents.
I’d never see them here — too cloud-covered or foggy and too many night lights. Sigh. It’s hard to even see the stars.
Okay, so I’m taping some of the new fall TV shows for Darcy, who doesn’t have cable/satellite (without either, it’s impossible to get any television because of the mountains).
Last night, I watched “Head Cases,” the new FOX lawyer comedy/drama about two attorneys with serious psychological issues. One has “explosive disorder” and the other has panic attacks.
I found it very amusing. It requires a bit more than the usual suspension of disbelief — the “explosive disorder” guy whacks an opposing attorney with an evidence rule book but isn’t arrested — but I didn’t mind. It was slapstick-ish.
So I looked up the reviews afterwards. About half the critics liked it, as I did. About half said it was HORRIBLE. The Seattle Times critic writes:
Oh well.
I also taped the new show, “Bones,” that airs Tues nights before “House, M.D.” It’s about a forensic anthropologist — just back from digging up victims of genocide — who helps out the FBI with solving difficult crimes. It was smartly produced, etc., etc…. but I found it terribly annoying. There’s something about too much cynical patter that sets me on edge. (West Wing can get like that too.)
Anyway, that’s my report from what most Americans watch instead of C-SPAN! :):)
(Darcy is so tired at night and she sometimes likes fun TV. I dig that. So do I. Just as long as it’s somewhat well-written and -acted.
I am once-removed from a writer on Head Cases, I’ll pass along your initial thoughts. I missed it since I decided that a trip to the mall was in order to spend a few gift cards I received.
Please do. Great casting too. I hope the show makes it despite the negative reviews. I preferred it to the pretentious “Bones.”
This is probably off-topic – even for an Open Thread – but what would I need to do to have The Underground Railroad added to the Fellow Kossacks/Frog Stalkers’ list(s)?
It’ll be done in about two minutes. If anyone ever has a blog they’d like added, please send one of us an e-mail. Thanks!
Is the first thing that image triggered…he was a master of optical illusion… here’s one called:
Left Hand Sphere

Enjoy

I LOVE Pilobolus, love them, love them. Have gotten to see them TWICE, once in K.C. and once in Lawrence. (She bragged.)
We’d have to trust each other first, to let people lay their faces in those places!
We’d have to trust each other first, to let people lay their faces in those places!
To quote the old commercial: “Aren’t you glad you used Dial? Don’t you wish everybody did?”
BTW, I didn’t know you were a she! (He said)
Pilobolus is coming here to Knoxville, but I’ve already budgeted my fun money for one of the jazz concerts also being held at “the newly renovated Tennessee Theatre,” and (of course) the Knoxville Ice Bears!
Yes, and would we really want Armando’s teeth at our neck? Or other sensitive spots? :[] (Toothy smile)
I am a she! Curtsey.
You’ll soooo wish you had seen Pilobolus. Sorry to do an I Told You So ahead of time. The early ones are particularly obnoxious!
Perhaps a heartfelt group hug prior to the travesty that will be Bush’s speech tonight. Ugh!!!
GIANT HUGS all ’round!
P.S. Boran, check out my post below about the new lawyer show on Fox…. the courtroom stuff is totally unrealistic, but in an Allie McBeal kinda way rather funny.
a wheel of cooperation, trust, faithful, physics, strength, absoluteness, love…I suppose I could go on and on, but you get the jest….that is what I see. Absolutely great!
Hmmm I see a Kama Sutra Swastika… ACK!
To circumvent the naseau of the speech tonight – watch this: http://www.filmstripinternational.com/index.php?asshole
Here’s a Pootie Pix for BooMan
That cat looks deadly (!) serious, like it’s heard that Bush is a sadist or something.
Naw, she’s a pussycat sweetums huggums.
Actually Susan, she’s a real sweatheart. It’s just hard capturing her expressions cause as Thestral says – takin pictures of black pooties is HURRRRD WEEERRRK. 🙂
DJ, love your link. great one…
Go to this post by Kos and look at the drubbing he’s getting for insulting Garrison Keillor. Be forwarned – there are 450+ comments right now.
Parker can add Garrison Keillor to the list of people not welcome at dKos. 🙂
enjoyed it. Kos must have been as surprised as Chief Brody shovelling chum off the back of the boat in “Jaws”.
This is very funny. Keillor shouldn’t have done that … parody is protected speech. But it doesn’t have anything to do with bloggers’ rights per se. It has to do with free speech, in any format anywhere.
I’d like one of those t-shirts though 🙂
I sent your link to my daughter who wrote back with this story:
Disclosure: IANAL
This FedEx case I can see as ridiculous as the guy wasn’t making money off of the FedEx trademark and was pretty damn clever about it.
However, I think the blogger in Kos’ post isn’t making a parody. He’s doing it to make a buck, which is ultimately trademark infringement. The blogger got a cease and desist notice – big whoop. Not like Keillor is suing for millions of dollars. He’s telling the blogger to knock off using his trademark. If he doesn’t, then other people will feel it is right to violate his trademark and Keillor will have no recourse later.

LONDON (Reuters) Sept. 15, 2005 — A monumental statue of a naked pregnant woman born without arms and with stunted legs was unveiled today in the center of London.
The 3.6-meter-tall statue, “Alison Lapper Pregnant,” will sit for 18 months in the northwest corner of Trafalgar Square on a plinth largely bare since it was built in 1841.
Carved from a single block of white Italian marble and weighing 12 tonnes, the statue will share one of London’s most famous open spaces with the 56-meter-tall Nelson’s Column and the classical facade of the National Gallery.
The specially commissioned work was designed by British artist Marc Quinn and was carved in Italy.

That’s absolutely incredible and wonderful and no chance in hell of a statue like that ever being on public display anywhere in the US…sadly.
Jack Cafferty is posting the question:
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR PRESIDENT BUSH SAY TONIGHT?
caffertyfile@cnn.com
— within the next 25 minutes — and he’ll read some on the air
Ha! How tempting is THAT?
“My fellow Americans. I quit.”
I’d just like to state for the record… errrr CD… that Bush is a steaming pile of shit.
