What is your favorite memory of the Fall/Autumn Season?
(Please Unrecommend Part One)
Stretch! AHHHHHHH! Enjoy the fresh thread.
Hey Man E… Just as I made it to the bottom of the other Cafe thread I saw your message.
That was a nice read, with all the memories and stuff.
well, you’re the first to arrive to the party here! I also enjoyed the reading, everyone does a great job of describing their memories–i felt like i was there.
I found a new frog photo on Flickr the other day…
I thought he was fitting for BT seeing as how he’s just hanging on like the rest of us!
I am looking more & more like him since I stopped working out a few weeks ago. π He’s great, thx for sharing!
Where is everyone? Are we the only ones around tonight?
perhaps they were waiting for the pizza to arrive?
That looks good!
I got a new BBQ this summer, and I made grilled pizza for the first time. I had wanted to try this for a while now. It turned out really good.
This one is neat … Worth1000.com always has some neat idea to get people creating in photoshop. The idea for this frog/orange was ‘planimals’ …
Just got through all of the memories from the last cafe. What wonderful mental pictures everyone created. Definitely lifted my mood after a tough day at work. Here’s a picture that brings back some nice memories for me. Its my sister and I – back when she was the rock of my world.
I love seeing pictures like that. I’ll have to scan some into the computer that I found in a box at my parents’ house recently. Thx for sharing NL! Wow, look how happy you both look.
After I posted it, I started to think it was kind of silly. But it is fun to look back (ie, all the wonderful memories) and remember the simplicity and innocence that is a part of all of us. And in the words of Sarah McLachlan:
‘Cause we are born innocent,
believe me ada,
we are still innocent,
its easy,
we all falter,
but does it matter?
It’s a really good photo. It’s fun to look back at old pics and reminisce. Besides, how could you look at those socks and skirts and not think cute! Thanks for sharing :o)
OMG what an adorable picture!
Hi, we have had a rainy/stormy day here in Socal, so get ready US some storms are coming your way. How was/is the weather in Arizona, Manee.
it looked like it wanted to rain earlier, but it sputtered out and never delivered a drop. The news ticker on the t.v. says it’s 87 degrees outside….it’s almost 10pm…what’s up with that?!?
Haven’t had time to post much over the last few days, but thought I’d stop in to say “Hi”.
So, uh, hi π
As for a favorite fall/autumn memory, I’d have to say one of my all time favorites is from fall ’97. Freshman year of college at U of M, going to the Big House for the first home football game of the season (wolverine writer, where you at? I know you know :). And I had no idea what I was in store for.
FWIW, the entire population of the town I was from could fit in the big house.
7 times.
Wow. That makes me think of the winter I lived in a town outside Lake Tahoe that had maybe 25 people living in it in the winter. Boy, did we ever know way too much of everyone’s business…It was beautiful there, though.
That does look gorgeous. It reminds me of why I need to head west each year, even if only for a week.
My town wasn’t THAT small though…between 15k and 16k π
It was gorgeous…midnight moonlight hiking, no tv, 2 radio stations, and lots o snow for skiing…half-hour over the mountain to friends in SLT, 3 hours to the Bay Area for real life…sigh.
I haven’t been out west since Telluride in 1994…CO counts, right?
It sure better. Hell, I call Chicago ‘west’.
My best times traveling have been in UT, CO, WY, and MT. I guess I’m a bit of a mountain freak π
Colorado is wonderful. We spent quite a bit of time in Nederland, not too far from Boulder back, um, awhile ago. The most gorgeous sunrises I ever saw were up at Needles’ Eye, with the sky looking like a velvet rainbow. Cold as hell though!
The first time I ever saw the Sierras I had hitch-hiked my way cross-country with my dog, and was riding in a tractor trailer up through Truckee. It was so beautiful!!! Two years later, when I found myself living in that area, I could hardly believe my luck.
How’s Montana? That one’s on my to-do list.
That all sounds like so much fun. I wish I could do all that π
Montana is great. Majestic, I guess, is really the best word I can think of.
Since I’m lacking good words, have a picture! This was just somewhere off of whatever road we were on. I wish I had more details, but I didn’t keep good notes π
Gorgeous shot. Can’t imagine how the ‘real’ thing looked!
It was one of those times when you know you have to get a picture, so that you can remember, at the same time knowing that picture will never do it justice.
The real thing was much, much less 2 dimensional.
Amazing!
CabinGirl what year was that? My brother lived there a few years back — 1971 or 1972 I think.
It was 1987-1988…I was just a young thing then! π
Spouse and I were out running errands most of the day.
Good news — HE GOES BACK TO WORK TOMORROW! Well, sort of; he’s still not cleared to drive a bus, but he reports for the “Transitional Work Program” tomorrow at 7am; it’s a program where drivers can show up and do tasks that they’re able to do while they’re disabled, so they don’t use up all their sick leave (and so their spouses don’t go crazy having them around 24/7! lol). It also means that I should be able to get back on a better routine, which I am in desperate need of.
Need to hit the hay early tonight, so I’m checking out in a bit…hope everyone has pleasant dreams of the end of our national nightmare… π
Just got in from the machine shop, 9:30 PM left coast time doing a special order I had to pack tonight. I scanned some blog hurricane coverage and then checked the 24 hour cable outlets to make sure they’re still showing reruns of hours-old on-the-scene reporting. Say what you will about American media, they’re as timely as they are relevant and accurate.
Fall of 1972. In the height of Nixon’s re-election campaign, Spiro Agnew comes to town for a fundraiser. On the way to engineering class my two idiot roommates reject my hushed advice and stroll over to an uncharacteristically radical campus speaker, not comprehending the meaning of the small crowd of photographers taking pictures of the onlookers instead of the speaker.
That weekend they were visited in the dorm by agents demanding to know the identities of others in the crowd.
I’m just sayin’….
Goodmorning all,
two things on Hurricane Rita.
First, it looks like Galveston is the target of this next monster storm, at least right now anyway. I lived in Galveston, which is nothing more than a barrier island, when I was a kid. I still have friends there from elementary school I haven’t been in touch with them for some years now but it occured to me last night to make contact with some of them just to let them know I’m thinking of them and hoping they will be safe. My last day on that island was spent riding out a tropical storm in 1973 so this is bringing back some memories. At least it looks as though the local government is properly prepared for the worst. They are in my thoughts.
Second, you can see in the Nat. Weather Service map here that landfall is expected on Saturday sometime. For anyone still wondering if the national press is going to cover the march in DC on Sat.,this storm just about gaurantees that it will not. Of course the lives and safety of those on the Texas coast are infinetily more important, but I am a little discouraged nonetheless.
Be careful out there today everyone :o)
Out there who can update me on a Senate vote yesterday. A rider to the Ag Appropriations Bill, that lowered organic food standards. Anyone know the outcome of that vote. I am naturally pessimistic. I contacted my senators Levin and Stabenow (the Banckruptcy Bill backer), but didn’t see anyting in MSM news this morning telling me the answer.
It’s a listing of the Senate Votes. Hope it helps.
You would think that a list of Senate Votes would help. But, when I looked there, I found a bunch of gobblygook. I am too lazy to live in a Democracy. I move that I should be placed on a raft and drifted in the general direction of North Korea.
the only thing that I see from yesterday related to agriculture is the passage of an amendment that says this:
“To prohibit the use of funds for developing a final rule with respect to the importation of beef from Japan.”
whatever that means… I guess I’ll big a bigger raft since I will need to be sent wayward too.
