Update [2005-9-24 16:34:10 by susanhu]:
Starting a NEW thread above!
I am hangin with ya Babe!!!!!!!! watchin on TV and loving it all. Wished I were there..Home from Memphis and getting my steam back up…:o) Love ya all…..hugs….
Wow, the streets are so crowded entrance is not possible from the rally…Wish we had a view of the city.
dont ya just know!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited for them all……I sure hope they do what they went for and that is to bring us together for the injustice and crimes of this administration. I am so excited for them all….
that there are 300,000 people near 15th and Constitution…..
Are there no cameras over there? Where are our Tribbers?
I want pictures of this massive amount of people (if accurate) because I sure as hell ain’t seeing it on my TV….not even on C-Span.
Alright now — someone feed me some video!!
at truthout they are reporting the following:
Hot damn is right — I just want to SEE it!!
CBS radio just reported that attendance was “sparse,” and that two anti-anti-war rallies (pro-war?) were also taking place.
Freakin media.
Heard that folks were streaming in all day; there are probably a ton who want to march without standing through 2 hours or so of speechifying…not to mention those who got stuck in the Amtrak NE Corridor snafu…
Checked some of the railroad discussion boards, and evidently there was catenary damage along the NE Corridor. For those not up on their train lingo, the catenary is the electric wires that the trains run on; they use a pantograph to connect to the wires and that provides the power.
Sounds like it may have been a legit delay, but if anyone has a shot of someone in a dark suit with an earpiece lingering near the Amtrak tracks, let us know… š
I don’t know where this woman was or what crack she was smoking but that’s bullshit. We just got back, and we were surrounded by 1000s of folks…and that’s just what we could see.
I know from sparse, and the only thing she could be talking a/b was that there were protesters who seemed to be marching away from the WH. Don’t know why. But there were 1000s of people IN FRONT of Rev. Jackson and Cindy Sheehan…I know b/c I saw it myself. I was a few feet away from them, as the husband and I realized we–and a few hundred of our best friends–were walking the WRONG way.
Gotta run, as I’ve got another place to be real soon. Why did EVERYTHING have to happen THIS wknd! More later, everyone.
Man, I just saw the boo tribbers on cspan just now….
How did I miss that?!?!? Who did you see? Is someone recording this??
I saw steven and his son, think it was the tall woman with long gray hair, maybe it was MSOC I saw their pictures in the diary from last night…The son of steve gave the peace sign….:o) to cspan tv….
I saw the kid flash the pece sign — you’re sure that’s Steven’s son?
What a cutie pie!!
I think it was…he and the older man was with who I thought was ppl from the pictures last night…they were getting in line to march on the street. I could swear it was them…
worried about him and MSOC the most, with their assorted health issues…dammit, the spouse and I should be in SF right now, he’s not even showered yet…yeah, I’m pissed… š
Really? I forgot there was a contingent! Are they leaving tonight or tomorrow. Damn, it would have been good to say hi!
when I get all excited!
hehe heh Nader just said:
“There has never been a more impeachable president in our nation’s history.”
very nice!
WOOHOOO! YEAH TRIBBERS!!! Will that be -re-net cast, ya think? Iam on dial -up and am just listening .
Possibly grab the timestamp?
Thanks for the new thread Susan. Have you talked to Booman et all lately?
I haven’t talked to him since he was on the subway this morning. Jerry’s called me a lot, and just sent me another boatload of pics! Which I’m putting up below in the Photo thread … they’re a little fuzzy cuz he took them with his cell phone, but I “corrected” them a bit in Photoshop and resized them … more and more will go up soon.
I WISH C-SPAN was covering the actual march…
Me too. I have been flipping through the channels and haven’t seen any coverage on the big guys since the rally started. Has anyone seen anything on the RWM?
when I saw the boo tribbers they were getting on the street to march. I hope they show it soon tho.
Jerry called again just a bit ago. He’s in the march. It’s several miles long — at least 300,000 people.
He never found BooMan and group. And his bus is leaving shortly. But he lives near BooMan and will meet up with him in real life soon.
I just put up more pictures Jerry took as he marched along.
He can’t get over how many young people there are.
Pictures? I saw the ones from last night..are there new ones from today? I can’t find them here. If you can link or direct me to them I would appreciate it. Thanks again for the awesome work you do here at the Trib.
In about the fourth story down, there’s a PHOTO THREAD. Look there! Those are mostly photos that Jerry sent me from his cell phone at the demo and in the march!
It looks like it was written up to be released after the whole protest was over:
The surging crowd, shouting “Bush out now” and “Peace now,” marched in front of the White House and then toward the Washington Monument in an 11-hour marathon of dissent.
That is weird Catnip,
Is this link an example of prepackaged news, oh no that doesn’t happen here does it?????
BTW I guess there are surging crowds in the street right now, that we cannot see, of course..we just have such a narrow view with cpsan and at least the article doesn’t say, only a few hundred, like usual.
the same AP story is out now in the miami herald!
Kind of Department of “move along – nothing here.”
So far, the only place I’ve found that give the march some real space and some details is Knight Ridder.
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/12732849.htm
running for cover…
There will be NO COVER!
Damnit — if someone wants to get pissy about Nader today, they can KISS MY BUTT!
He just said:
“This is the most impeachable president in our nation’s history.”
and “George Bush is the biggest underminer of the troops.”
Beside me, on me, in front of me (so I can get your back) — you bet, hon! Any day, any where!
š
PS we got one of your boxes on Friday– still looking for the other two…we’ll give them until Wednesday!
GEEZ woman- you are gonna be drowning in boxes- did any of mine come yet? (damm post orifice)!
came on Friday….
so many cats so little time!
lol
And I’ve been drowing in boxes all my life — it is my preferred method of organization, so, no worries there!
okey doke!! HAHA-you all make me laugh so much– food for the soul, for sure.
Hmm- whatever happened to that T-shirt i used to have that said–‘So many men,so little time’.
I’d never get pissy about Ralphie today. He RAWKS!
(Just got a bit sore with him for mucking about in the 2000 election. But nobody argues that he’s such a smart, knowledgeable man .. god, what I wouldn’t give to have someone LIKE HIM in charge of any government agency.)
She and her hub, Sam Sheppard, live in VA, I was wondering if she would show up — she rocks!
I love Jessica Lang…she is doing a mighty fine job…calling the duck a duck….:o)
is an end to the killing.” Jessica Lange You go girl!!
they just announced that the march was 20 blocks long..est. amt of ppl there is 250k…yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jessica Lange was excellent! I’m glue to C-SPAN today…
you bet she was!!!!!!!! She just said it like it is!!!!!!!! I love her …she speaks the truth..
Show the freaken march! missed Lange. I was in the shower. Couldn’t stand myself anymore…lol. I am going to get going to the rally here. Will call Susan if anything newsworthy happens here in San Diego. MSM doing a bang up job of covering one story aren’t they?
From truthout:
Did anyone else see this bit on CNN of which he speaks??
Here is linkto Washington Post story with photo gallery.
Diane, the link sends me to the “Can’t Find It” page.
Diane…the link is no good. The rally has lost my interest. WHy are they still showing these people speaking? All the protesters have left the rally to go march. Are they going to show that?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/24/AR2005092400735.html
I’m like you..I’m starting to get fucken pissed..why can’t they show the people who are marching instead of showing the tail end of people speaking to almost no people?…anyone tuning in to that will think no one fucken showed up..hey it’s not like c-span couldn’t do a split screen right?..stupid fuckers.
I don’t know about the coverage, looks like they are just covering the rally, title of show is ‘Rally Against War’ (as opposed to March against war)….We need overhead (hellicopter) cameras to cover march, where are they, lots of sounds of hellicopters, so maybe someone is filming this. Does cspan even have the ability to do sky coverage, I wonder?
This is totally disgusting. They will not show the actual march? up to 250,000 is what I last heard and that diary over at dkos has traffic cam pictures that she said people keep marching by for over thirty minutes at the same location. Where the fuck is the media? GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
If there are that many people ,it is a good thing that they are filtering out, rather than in one mass movement. That can get real scary, real fast.Main reason why I didn’t go,I am small and I have been near to being trampled, and I am too old to play tear gas,but this looks very benign so far. GREAT! This will be so cool for all the young’uns- their first major march!
Young-uns meaning those under 45–:P.
flag-draped coffins on C-SPAN. Bmaples has a diary over on DKos showing images from traffic cams… and he/she says each image just keeps showing more and more people!
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/24/142248/079
I think somewhere in the comments is a link to the actual traffic cams website.
Not much support for bush, eh?
And all they can do is blame Cindy Sheehan? America is ashamed of those of you that can’t take responsibility for your warmongering policies…
Go check out the link… Pic of the over 10,000 that showed up for the London Anti-War rally!
I grew up in Bethel.
I take back what I said about the speeches in the other thread.
So glad they finally stopped, and if they’d have shut the fuck up maybe some of cspan’s cameras would have followed the march.
Big fuckup.
I want pictures of the crowd.
Reuters has a video at this
link however I can not get it to play on my computer.
Wasn’t able to get to it through Firefox, but loaded fine from Safari — but requires RealPlayer, so not sure if that’s the problem.
One slightly sticky scene where US Park Police looked like they were getting a bit belligerent with one protester; he was walking outside the “designated area” it looked like, but over all the police seem to be keeping hands off as long as the protestors behave themselves. Wish Reuters hadn’t shown the ones saying “Fuck the World Bank” with middle fingers upraised; would’ve preferrerd more scenes of folks like our BooTribbers (would love to see the MSM try to spin folks like TeacherKen and RenaRF as “wild-eyed radicals”…).
An awful lot of time spent on black-clad “fuck-the-World-Bank” anarchist types, not so much on the broad cross-section of America that we know is there.
But the Reuters site says this footage is “rough cut” — I wonder if any of it will actually be used anywhere?
I’m still hoping someone was up in the air filming the march. When I marched for choice in DC in 1992, the flight attendants on my plane home told me they had seen the march from the air that afternoon and were very impressed.
here is link, to DC traffic cam page found on DK.
And I’ve got a question: What is the march route? Where are they going? When I watch 15th & Constitution, I see steady waves of folks. Then at 9th and Constitution, the marchers appear more straggled out. Then at 3rd and Constituion, no one, nada. Are they turning off into the Mall before then? Also, there doesn’t appear to be a cam aimed anywhere near the WH. Isn’t that odd?
OK, found ’em, heading up 14th at New York Ave toward the WH. Doh! Haven’t found a cam yet that shows beyond that… still looking…
A very, very quick comment, then I need to go back downtown to meet with everyone.
This has been a great, terrific event! I’m thrilled to have been a part of what will surely be called in the future, the turn of the tide.
More later, peace!
BroFel.
We love ya,darlin!! Thanks for the report.
He’s distressed that a bunch of anarchist punk kids ran through in front of his hotel, and trashed everything in sight. Newspapers stands, and on and on.
BooMan is running around cleaning up the mess, picking up the newspapers, etc.
He said that 50 motorcycle cops just whizzed by and are going after the kids. BooMan is enroute to see what the cops do to the kids.
He will call as soon as he has more to report.
I mentioned to him that, in 1999 at the WTO in Seattle, there were undercover cops who infiltrated such groups and got them going, but BooMan looked at them very carefully and swears they’re all just a bunch of punks. He is ANGRY with them for detracting from what has otherwise been a wonderful day.
it’s the anarchists that are going to get the lion’s share of the MSM publicity, so the Righties can tell Joe & Jane SixPack how totally out there and non-mainstream the peace movement is.
Susan, when you talk to Boo, you might want to have him encourage the BooTroops to write up their march experiences for their local papers and see if they can get published as guest opinions…let people know that just as Bush doesn’t speak for all Americans, neither do the anarchists speak for all peace activists…
CNN headline news just had a blurb. about march, but it was so quick I only got a sec of it, or maybe it was only covered for a sec.
about that:
at TruthOut
He sounds like BooMan’s attitude towards those punks.
Immature. Too much teen testosterone.
massive and fundamental upheaval.
Dress appropriately–things may be messy at times.
