As political activists rush to mine Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers’ slender public record, a former campaign manager says she opposed abortion rights while running for Dallas City Council in 1989.
“She is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement,” said Lorlee Bartos, who managed Miers’ first and only political campaign and said they discussed abortion once during the race.
“I think Harriet’s belief was pretty strongly felt,” Bartos said Monday.
Of course, this is just one person’s recollection. But the fact that Ms. Bartos uses the word “extreme” near the word “anti-choice” is of high, high concern.
Ms. Bartos clearly needs to be called as a witness before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Which extreme end was she on? I mean, one extreme end of the anti-choice movement might be she supports the right to choose until the third trimester, or in cases involving a mother’s health.
On the other extreme, we might have to worry about our rights to contraceptives.
One a lot scarier than the other.
In this context, extreme has only one meaning. Believe your informant or not, there is no mistake about what he said.
Oops–too much skimming!
