Yes, Bush’s poll numbers are now at their lowest levels ever measured by CBS News. He sits at a 37% approval rating.
No wonder so many Republicans rats are leaving the sinking ship that this administration has become.
Here are some other numbers:
- 69% say the country is on the wrong track.
- 79% of Republicans still say they approve of Bush’s performance (they’re obviously all on crack)
- 84% of Democrats disapprove (find that remaining 16% and set them straight!)
- 32% approve of Bush’s handling of Iraq
- 32% approve of his handling of the economy
- 45% approve of his handling of Katrina (that’s down from 54%)
“And for the first time in this poll, fewer than half the public approves of the way he is handling the campaign against terrorism. 46 percent now approve, but 46 percent disapprove.”
The CBS Poll offers more numbers in various categories to examine the public reaction to the Bush presidency and policies, but all you really need to know is that Americans are not happy – about much at all.
The Dems have a lead on support in Congress:
“Party loyalty plays a role: Democrats tend to see Democrats in Congress favorably, while Republicans see members from their party that way. Independents see both parties in a negative light, but more hold unfavorable views of Republicans than Democrats.”
That’s encouraging!
Now get out there and let’s bring that Bush approval rating down to 14% by Christmas. I know you can do it.
Update [2005-10-7 18:56:38 by catnip]:: More bad news for Bush
According to an AP-IPSOS poll, Bush is losing his base.
The AP-IPSOS poll has Bush’s approval rating at 39%.
but looking at the numbers above 32% seems likely. Those diehard 32% who wear blinders, watch faux news and only talk to each other are keeping Bush somewhat afloat. But if “turdblossom” gets indicted will Bush be forced to fire him? Or will he keep him on in the face of the gathering storm? Or will Bush be one of the unindicted co-conspiritors along with Cheney? Will those 32% diehards still keep bailing his boat? Stay tuned for more developments.
Seriously I wish Fitz would a) be honest and b) be a little speedier.
You think Fitz isn’t being honest?
other than pull people into his grand jury sessions and we won’t know how gutsy he will be to take it up to the top. Remember all those grunts who got caught in the torture scandal – no brass got their knuckles slapped.
glitter, I hope with all of my heart that he does his job. I think the situation with the torture scandal was different since the administration wouldn’t allow it to be taken out of the scope of military court and refused to participate in the International Criminal Court. There was no justice in those cases.
If indictments come to BushCo over the Plame thing, then I think it is possible that his overall rating might drop as low as 33%. Going after Osama might be a bit more important to GW than it has been since 12/01. I’m quite sure yesterdays speech didn’t help!
That speech was definitely all hat, no cattle. He seems to be making regular Thursday appearances now to remind America about the WoT. It’s not working.
Yes, he makes them on Thursday so he can beat it out of town Friday morning.
Frankly, I don’t care how low Bush’s numbers go. If Democrats aren’t willing to take on a lame duck President with numbers below 50% when will they?
Take today’s House action, for instance. I see that a few Democrats protested. Hell, they should have marched out of the chambers, stood on the steps in front of Congress and screamed at the media to start taking notice of the coup d’etat that has taken place.
Sorry for the sport analogy, but . . . this reminds me the baseball team that can load the bases every inning but can never get the two-out hit that drives in some runs. Eventually what do you call a team like that? Losers. Well, the Republicans keep walking the bases loaded for the Democrats but none of the Democrats want to swing their bats.
(Again, sorry for the sports analogy — its the best I can do late on a Friday.)
Regarding the MSM; Al Gore kinda stepped to the plate yesterday. Alas, he is not interested in running in 08, from what I have heard. Half of the Democratic Senate sent a nasty letter to GW regarding Iraq the other day. When we lose another 2,000 GI’s I wonder if they will send another? Wake up Dems! Stick your neck out, or you are going to lose again, because disgruntled liberals will form or join a third party. This will hand the next round to the GOP AGAIN! In case you haven’t noticed, I think we are behind on the cards, and running out of rounds.
Great Diary. Bear with me, it’s Friday, on the light side, have you noticed the editorials in establishment media these days? The WaPo refers to bush ‘fantasy’ and the NYT appears to be channeling the Rocky Horror Picture Show..October 7, 2005
‘President Bush’s Major Speech: Doing the 9/11 Time Warp Again ‘
For those that recall the song ‘Time Warp’ here’s an excerpt:
“Well I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck and the devil’s eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let’s do the Time Warp again!”
You’re gonna make everyone stand up and dance now. 🙂
