OK, that makes it an official entry, but, I’m not wanting to futz around with all that cut and paste, and these photos are being hosted by my own ISP, so I’ll do it direct, no thumbnails.
“Catitude”. Muffin, one of our cats. He wears a sharkskin tuxedo, and he means it.
One of the frogs in my pond, with the sunset sky lighting the water.
John and Teresa, Las Vegas NM on the back of the train, 2004. I just love this shot of her as a tired human being.
Tito, another one of our cats, a foundling come to Kitty Heaven, out at the “ranch”. Utterly exhausted and utterly trusting.
My countryside. The village is barely visible in the background. Thats the Pecos River, about 75 miles downstream from it’s source.
and running at flood past my lower field.
(C) Georgia Santamaria
I didn’t take this; Georgia’s grandfather did, and she found the glass plate negative in the attic and printed it in her darkroom. Her family has run the store since 1873.
Hope nobody is offended by my format. I’ve got more.
These are all really good, Claude, but I gotta say… love that Tito!
A most interesting assortment! That is the most relaxed cat I’ve ever seen.
I love ’em all, for different reasons. The Kerry photo is just such wonderful human interest; the landscape shots are beautiful, of a part of the country I’ve never seen (West Texas?); ya can’t lose with cats; and the historical photo is a real treasure.
I love the pic of Tito…that’s a very trusting kitty. My own husband knows better than to sleep like that with me around. I’m a tickle monster. I love the pics of your countryside too. Very beautiful.
Excellent photos, Claude. More would always be welcome.
I’m already in love with that matinee star Muffin. Post his picture anytime.
Just wanted to say,Claude,we are getting ready to fire up the Rumford today!
And that is the most trusting kitty I have ever seen too.
Oooooh! You know about Rumfords? Who built yours?
Today, Sunday, Oct 9, is Tito’s “foundling day”. She flagged us down on the road thru our village, one year ago, looking about as emaciated and on her last legs as a kitten can look. I stopped the car, she looked at me and I said the magic words: “here, Kitty kitty kitty” and 5000 years of genes kicked in and she came. She has the longest tail I have ever seen on a cat.
The Rumford came with the house– one of the main reasons we bought it- the house is a log house that (unfortunately) was built by a guy who went broke building it– milled all the lumber and so on- it is very well built and insulated- but the Rumford sold me- along with all the very new energy-efficient appliances- and walls a foot thick.
Nobody knows what this photo is about. I date it as pre 1930, given the vintage of the autos. The number of people in uniform suggests as “mustering out” of recruits to the Army. The store and it’s hacienda compound are still in daily use with the fourth and fifth generations of the family in residence.
There are a bunch more of these old photos here and here.
they are big files, a slow loading page if you are on dial-up, but worth the wait. Life in this backwater village in New Mexico, 100+ years ago.
Your “Catitude” is delightfully elegant. The shadows and contrasting lighted areas with Muffin’s white and dark fur are most interesting to my eye.
BTW when I read “Muffin” I burst out laughing. I was reminded of a children’s book which featured a guinea pig. The class was choosing the name “Fluffy,” as the guinea pig shouted unheard,”‘Fluffy?!’ I’m “Butch!”
Though Muffin was my favorite, the frog in pink water is sublime and so appropo for this site.
Thanks for posting these.
