Most of these pictures are from Asia, either Japan where I live, or China where I visited last spring. I wish I could post some of my pics from England, but I was still using my film camera then and my scanner has not done those pictures justice |

Buko Shibazakura
This is the annual field blossom in Chichibu, Japan. The mountain in the background is Mt. Buko, a symbol of Chichibu. It’s been rather badly mined for limestone, explaining the step-pyramid look at the top.
Lone Oak
Taken from the parking lot of Mission Santa Ynez, in Solvang.
Nagatoro
Touristy spot north of Chichibu, where people come to view the rocks and the river. Really stunning in Autumn.
Oceano Dunes
I stayed in the RV park adjacent to the dunes for one night. The pictures I got were the only nice thing about that evening.
Pan Men
In Suzhou, China, the Pan Men garden is part of the Suzhou Gardens World Heritage Site. I always tell my kids that a monk sat down to meditate there, and turned to stone when he achieved enlightenment. Some seem to believe me.
My husband asked me to tell you that he thinks this is “a photo of National Geographic quality.” And I agree. All your photos have immense quality, both in photographic terms and in their subject matter.

You are too kind.
Putuo Shan
A small island off the coast of China. It used to be populated entirely by Buddhist monks, but they were mostly expelled during the Cultural Revolution, and now it’s turning into a tourist resort. March was a bit early for beach tourism, though, so I got a nice clear shot.
Shanghai – Pudong
I think this is a good summary of modern China, ostentatious modernity arising from the rubble of permenant construction
This image stands in stark contrast to the other more contemplative ones that you have included. It’s reminiscent of something from a bleak, futuristic sci-fi film.
Very, very interesting.
Thank you.
Peace
Tong Li
It’s official name is “Thousand Years Aged Ancient Water Town Special Designated Tourist Preservation Area Tong Li.” The strange, and rather disturbing, thing is that people still live there.
West Lake
One of the most famous places in China, for the Chinese. A poet wrote something about it and Suzhou being the two heaveans on Earth some thousand years ago, and it’s been a tourist destination ever since. The photo is of a pond on an island in the middle of the lake.
I’m so glad to have taken this tour. Just when I think there surely can’t be many more photo albums of such high quality and intelligence, here comes another one. Thank you!
I really like your pictures too! They’re so beautiful…Now I’m torn–China or Japan! I want to see the Pan Men photo in real life.
