Happy Sunday to all you Tribunes out there! We hope you’re enjoying the inaugural Froggy Bottom Photo Fair as much as we are. Over two dozen galleries have been put up, with more to come today. Please take a look at all of them, if you can; we have some sterling photographers among us.
And when you get that art-gallery crick in your neck from looking at so much fine imagery, c’mon in to the Café for a spell, have a soothing beverage, and visit with your colleagues. The Café is now open….
If it’s not art-gallery neck-crick, it’s laptop-screen hunchback. Not to mention the dreaded trackpad-hand. Oh, what we suffer for our art!
I’d always walk with you! No matter where to or how far 🙂 Pretty pictures by the way. I can’t stay though…
Today Wayne left for Portland. Job interview.
I’m laying low as my son has had TWO parents fly off lately and thus screw us HIS schedule. He’s very irritated at the moment. I think he could have handled one flight… but two now. “during school time”… 🙂
When I came back inside, Wesley was muttering about how he didn’t want anymore t-shirts (I brought home several from DC)… he just wants things “NORMAL” 🙂
Normal… that cracked me up.
Crossing my eyeballs and playing de-stresser and movie maiden. Ciao! (((((BrotherFeldspar & All))) xoxox
Poor guy. Fingers crossed for Wayne, too. God, I hope you get to move to Portland. It’ll be like moving from a real-life Freeperville to a real-life BooTrib. Your well-being would be greatly improved.
Would miss you down here — but wouldn’t mind a second reason to visit Portland besides the niece and great-niece.
Hugs to Wesley — oh, and hope the party was SMASHING!!! Sharks actually came back to beat the Blues; if early season is any indication, the league’s getting their wish for “more scoring”. I feel sorry for the goalies; their goals allowed average is going to be the pits this year. 🙁
Trying to get ourselves moving here — we HAVE to get to IKEA to get our new computer desk! I really want to have it up by next weekend so we can get the new desktop system, then we can both be on the computer at the same time!
Will check back later…
I second the good wishes for Wayne on the job interview. If you move there, can we come visit?
CabinGirl, thank you for your tip earlier today about the self-warming dog bed. Guess who’s lying on one right now, alongside one of the cats? If only I had a digital camera. (Wasn’t that what one of Dorothy’s friends said? A brain, a heart, courage, and a digital camera.)
Do you know there are electrically warmed beds for pets, too? Very expensive, like $70, at least the ones I saw today. T
Can I just confess that my idea came from years ago, when we lived in the Sierras in the winter with little money and even less heat? My Aussie dog was like my electric blanket…
I had a dachsie when I was a little girl-I’d love to see what (Lucy?) looks like curled up with a cat!
Please feel free to particpate in my art site. I don’t want to come across as shamlessly advertising, but I would think that it would be great if some people shared their work over there and joined in the community. There are some really wonderful photographs in the Photo Fair.
There are some stunning pieces there: I’m particular taken with “Window Block” at the bottom. What media do you accept? You may have a flood of digital photography if some of our shutterbugs take you up on your offer.
Oh anything, I’m super open-minded.. photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, conceptual art… pretty much any media except for say using animals like Damien Hirst.
Hmm, yeah, sectioned-animals art is a bit disturbing. Do I seem to recall protests by a couple animal-rights groups against his exhibits?
I don’t know actually. I remember that for a Banksy exibit a women chained herself to a fence. But the Banksy piece is interesting to me, a vegetarian, because I think a plausible interpretation of the work was to show how we treat animals as a commodity. Whether or not this reduced animal suffering is questionable.. in other words did this piece raise awareness and influence people to become vegetarians or just make a sheep sick by spray-painting it..
Nice Game on Saturday night, eh?
Habs 5, Leafs 4…
GO HABS GO!
MOST STRONGLY.
We are all aware that the correct chant is “Go LEAFS Go”… you guys just got lucky… and Ottawa too…
😉
Historically speaking, the term was originally coined when the british booted the french that would not pledge their loyalty to the British crown out of Canada.
Early on in the Montreal’s hockey history it became a cheer for the home team and the many french players on it.
Much later in hockey history (during the “Ballard years”) Toronto fans modified it as a call for their home team to hopefully take their advice and actually leave town.
Of course, if you believe any of this that I just wrote… Well, than you have obviously lost all sense of humour.
The season is still young, and Toronto will have plenty of chances to get out of 15th place in the East… lol
Good Sunday to you Brother Feldspar. I loved your photo diary as well as all the amazing others. Cool to see so much talent gathered in one place.
I’ve been meaning to post part II of my March diaries but there’s been so much more interesting stuff here lately that I’ve gotten lazy about it. I’m really hoping for some indictments this coming week. We desperately need some good news. By the way, did anyone ever get sick from the rabbit fever deal on the 24th? Just wondering.
Susan hu did report a case of illness directly related to the march (not sure if it was a member here)on the social group that hosts the FBC. I just tired to find it and could not so maybe Susan will post it here.
I suggest that the next march everyone done hazmet suits and gas masks. Especially If this was perpetrated by the government in any way, and certainly terrorists would not want to terrorize an anti-war march, would they?
And Hi super, how are you today.
Fat and lazy thank you very much!
We’re socked in here in the northeast. Cold, wet, and foggy. A good day to enjoy a fire, good food, and some football with the family :o)
How ’bout you?
I’m ok, having my lazy Sunday…..on the blogs…not too much different from every other day, but at least it’s a day off from work, no phones to answer and that is a blessing….interrupts my blog time too much…lol.
We are having a nice sunny day here in Socal, but I love foggy and wet days, we get so few here, we treasure any little drop of rain, that is until we get 26 inches in a 3 mo. period, then we say enough with the rain. would be good if it was spread out a little over the year.
What town do you live in super, is it NYC.
Apologies for taking so long to reply.
I live on the North Fork of the eastern end of Long Island. It’s still fairly rural here and we’ve managed to hold onto a good amount of our farms, though many have converted to vineyards, of which I have mixed feelings about. One the one hand they keep the land open, always good. But on the other hand I think they attract the kind of people who have enough money to buy up whatever property is left, driving up prices and driving out the locals who find it more and more difficult to afford to live here. But hey, that’s the system, for better or worse.
Good Sunday to you too! I’ve been eagerly (yet patiently) awaiting your Part II. I’m also really impressed at the quality of the imagery that’s been put on display. No tularemia here, btw.
Good day to all of you- I am glad this is open cause I was ovewhelmed by all the photos!! Just wonderful everyone!
My only daughter turned 21 today. Beautiful, spirited, drop-dead funny and with an independent streak 2 miles wide…often we butt heads and end up hurting each other’s feelings, or leaving the room in a fit of tears and hormones, but I have been so proud and awestruck of her from the minute I laid eyes on her. With 3 brothers she has had to be tough and not be grossed out easily but she retains this innate femininity that steals the breath away from this tomboy mother of hers.
How on earth did we go from this…
to this in the blink of an eye:
You have such beautiful children. Happy birthday to Ryan Elizabeth! Has she done what most of us did on our 21st birthdays?
You know, eat cake…
no, she’s having a birthday pumpkin pie which is in the oven. She did wait until 12:20 AM and went and bought a beer for one of her friends. She hates beer…says it tastes like earwax. Don’t ask.
Children could do worse things than hate beer, I think. 🙂
MMM…pie…I was thinking about making pumpkin cookies or bread today. It’s dismal and chilly, and a good day to curl up with a book…(unfortunately, I’m finishing up some work-work and studying for an exam instead!)
Since my children have recently been portrayed as wild drunken blogging mustard artists…I was speaking of adult/grown children!
speaking of drunken children…there is an infamous (well at least in our family) photo of my oldest sister at about age 1, holding a whiskey bottle in one chubby hand and a light bulb in the other. In the background are the sexy stocking-clad legs of my mother and her friends. With role models like that, how could we be anything less than stellar parents?
Well, there’s always the wide wonderful world of wine.
Seriously tho, my kid sister, now a college freshman, swore off alcohol back in high school, not because of a direct experience, but mainly in disgust to what it does to people around her. Just last weekend she was blessed with the opportunity to hold her roommate’s hair while she (the roommate) vomited from too much vodka. Welcome to college! Sis can actually be a bit puritanical about the vices she’s foresworn, but I’m actually pleased & proud that she is observant & sensitive enough to learn from other people’s mistakes. Of course, that doesn’t stop me from ribbing her about her progress in “Beer Bong Craft 101” and so forth. What are big brothers for otherwise?
Lemon Solstice herbal tea and a quiet corner to peruse the photo diaries and take a little nap. Or, failing that putting on storms and all the other fun of winterizing a house in Wisconsin knowing that natural gas prices are going to be absolutely killer. Whee!
Punchy here.
Hope this will suit? Seems an age since I actually filled an order here. I too am not looking forward to heating the house this winter, since houses from 1904 typically aren’t as well-insulated as one would hope. Fortunately, the new housemate is as gung-ho for the cold as I am, so the thermostat may never go above 62 this winter.
Our place is of slightly newer vintage 1921, so I empathize on the insulation. We won’t go over 64, and that only part of the day. Programmable thermostats are wonderful things.
A little celebratory fireworks and major KUDOS to the success of the FB Photo Fair; the committee: Nag, Penny, BroFel, AndiF and Katiebird; and everyone who participated…I am truly impressed with the talent that calls this corner of the blogosphere home.
Peace
Took this Friday when Puget4 and I took an afternoon dog-walk break with our two terrific totos.
Thanks to all the workers and participants in the fair. It’ll take me another few days to get around to the new entries and add some compliments.
Puget4 a.k.a. Mrs. Gooserock had a _ball_ too.
I have been watching the Astros/Braves game this afternoon — it has been tied 6-6 since the 9th…..
It is now the longest postseason game EVER!
IMO any game involving the Astros and the Braves is the longest game ever…
sorry, I’m still bitter about the Indians. 🙁
Yes, but have the Hated Yankees been eliminated yet? This is what the whole world wonders.
Oh, yes…the Yankees! I guess we’ll find out tonight won’t we? The Indians were a much better team than the yanks this year but blew it the final week. Drats.
The ‘Stros won — what an awesome game that was!!
I HATE the Yankees and I hope they lose in a most spectacular fashion like they did last year in the World Series!
Thank you, Brother Feldspar, it is sparkling indeed here in San Francisco today where September and October are our bestest and brightest months, weatherwise.
And thank you all PhotoFair organizers and contributers for the visual feast this weekend. I still haven’t looked at half of the diaries ’cause I get overwhelmed easily at galleries and museums. I’ll have to come back for another visit soon. I hope the link can stay on the f.p. for a while … at least ’til the indictments!
and others…there’s a circle with a + sign to the left of the diary title, click on that and it will post the link to your “Hotlist” box above Recommended Diaries, eliminating the need to search for it.
To delete, click it again, it will have a – sign in it at that time. Hope this helps.
Peace
Good point! My hotlist is so long already that I quit adding to it and forgot I could! So thanks for the reminder Dada.
You can get diaries off hot list by clicking on them, then hitting the minus sign.
I’m so attached to all my favorites…
Hope you’re in a nice peaceful section of SF, away from the maddening crowds invading for Fleet Week. That’s the main reason the spouse and I decided to wait a week till seeing the Murrow movie up at the Embarcadero Cinema, or we might be able to catch it down here next weekend…
We get the occasional loud jets overhead going into or coming out of Moffett — would hate to think how bad it would be if it was still an active NAB…but enough that I’ve sort of lost my taste for the Blue Angels… 🙁
Yes, I’m in a sleepy part of the Mission busy working away on the backlog at my daughter’s school library where I volunteer.
I haven’t caught the movie yet but was thinking about tomorrow night; otherwise will have to wait til next week.
I strongly suspect October is the best month everywhere in the country. Certainly it is here in DC, after the heat & humidity have died down, and before the chill rains of November arrive. Not to mention, all the candy on special.
The photo fair ain’t over ’til katiebird says it’s over, so I’ll state my judgment that is has been a resounding and triumphant success at that time. 😉 I suspect the rest of the autumn (God grant me good weather!) will be spent snapping photos that may eventually rise to the level of Gooserock or Olivia.
Rome‘s on.
that’s a whole lotta “Refresh.” The Café will now be on overnight autopilot. Have a great week, everyone!
