Dana Milbank and other pundits, on Hardball yesterday, were confident that, if indicted, Rove will resign to save Bush having to fire him, as Nixon had to do to Haldemann.
But wouldn’t it make more sense politically for Bush to fire him to show that he follow through on his earlier statements that anyone who leaked (updated to indicted, of course) would be fired? The he could strut around claiming what a strong leader he is, not afraid to make decisions, blah blah bah.
I wouldn’t doubt. Maybe just maybe, he’ll be the absolute sociopath he always was and turn and bite bush’s hand. I’m thinking a book laying out how incredibly stupid and manipulated bush has been these last five years. Maybe a play by play on the Iraq war lies.
I think there would be sudden bump in the rate of small aircraft crashes and an increase in the number of people committing suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head…
I can’t believe that I can look back and wish that power-hungry conflicted vindictive lying bastard were running things now. It’s very, very hard to admit Nixon had any standards, but I guess he did have some. I’m ashamed to admit I’d take his leadership any day over the amoral, gutless, witless and rudderless steaming heaps of cow excrement that pass for our leadership now. Of course, if Nixon could see what passes for 21st century ethics, “It would be wrong, that’s for sure” wouldn’t slow him a bit now.
much of what’s happening now is a direct and conscious GOP response to Nixon’s “mistake” of having some shred of conscience, some regard for his oath of office. They ain’t gonna do that soft ethics-poisoned behavior again.
Assuming that Fitzgerald and the GJ report out even a portion of what we are all hoping for, and do it by the end of the month, we should have a bumper crop of terrific political cartoons, all in time for Hallowe’en. 🙂
I have always thought this WH as a dog and pony show, from the get go. This just proves my point!
I do not know why we all give rove so much credit that he seems to think he has. I do think once he is gone from the decision making process, things will surely fall apart tho. There has to be a catalyst to hold things together and someone has to be it…who else but rove and his manipulative mind…:o) Karen tried but she has failed as well….:o)
Brenda, i agree with you that things will really fall apart if Rove is gone … just like things are falling apart while Rove is preoccupied with his GJ testimony, etc.
I guess it depends on who is the best poker player of them all!!!! Who has been dealing from the bottom of the deck and who is holding the ace s…or a straight and then we will see who is going to be holding the bag so to speak. I think they all would rat on anyone who will save their own hide.

But do Seattle cops really have to pound the lap-dance beat?

P.S. How do you all feel about such clubs personally? My two cents: I believe in freedom of consenting adults to do what they wish and pay for what they wish. But, when such a club opened about four blocks from my and little Darcy’s home — and on the main street leading to the University of Washington — I was appalled and embarrassed. I didn’t want friends and family to have to drive by the place to get to our home. I found it sickening that UW students would have to walk by the place enroute to their classes.
I also heard, from my clients “in the know,” that the guy who owned the club was infamous for using such places as a drug front.
Sadly, too, the historic, famous Blue Moon Tavern was a couple doors away — a place so full of legendary characters and stories that it’s including in every history of the 60s, of great blues musicians who came out of Seattle, and more. I found it sad that such a funky dumpy wonderful place, with its art deco Blue Moon neon sign, would have to be degraded by such slop next to it.
How many of the customers at that establishment are from the neighborhood vs from farther away?
I’m thinking that the customers mostly live elsewhere but wouldn’t want to risk having their neighbors see them enter it.
And the owner, does he live there?
Sure adults have the right to do what they wantish. But, it’s funny how often the people who want to go to those places don’t want those places near their own home.
I thought we had zoning standards so we don’t have to live near such places if we don’t want to.
It sounds like those standards are failing your neighborhood. Why should you be stuck with it?
And the whole drug thing is another thing. I’d hate having that near my house.
This was about 15+ years ago. We don’t even live in Seattle anymore. And I think that that club eventually closed. My daughter was in elementary school at the time, which made me more uncomfortable.
Yes, I’d say a lot of people came from outside the neighborhood. But a lot of young men — college students, I’m guessing — frequented the place too.
When I had my home business, when my daughter was small, I wrote a lot of resumes and cover letters — thousands of them. People from all kinds of professions came to me for help.
One was a girl from India, a student at the Univ. of Washington, who was paying her way through school by dancing at a strip club in the north end of Seattle.
Another was a young woman with a four-year-old who gave me the handwritten draft of a resume…. the top job said “Entertainer” – 5 years. I asked if she were a singer, and she said no. Eventually it came out that she’d been a lap dancer, and we brainstormed on how to give her a job history without getting her automatically disqualified from consideration.
A third was a young man who was the asst. manager of a porno-only video store — he and I had a similar problem / how to describe the considerable skills he’d developed without disclosing exactly what kind of a store he’d worked for.
It’s interesting that there are no such clubs in the entire county here — which I like. There are a couple “adult” retail stores that are very discrete in their signage and displays…. one is in the middle of downtown, and doesn’t stand out from other stores on the block, which is nice.
I can’t say these clubs bother me aside from feeling rather sad when I’m walking by…I have only been in one and that only a few times, a friend was involved with one of the dancers and wanted us to meet her. She was nice, I was very young so I expected someone very film noirish rather than a young woman trying to earn a living and support her child. I just found the whole scene kind of sad for some reason. As sad for the watchers as the watched, I wish I had some concrete reason why I felt that way, I can go through all the sexual/political arguments but they all miss the point for me…it seems more a matter of all those empty eyes/ blank stares/fake smiles…

All with Rove’s final guidance.
Although, I must admit that it appears Karl has already abandoned his little sock puppet, based on the monumental screw-ups we’ve seen recently.
Sock puppet is right. Look at how differently the cartoonist has drawn the brain areas of Bush and Rove.
Another Update:
Two days ago (I think) he changed it to convicted, or found guilty of breaking a law, indictment is no longer enough)
Resigned or fired, but in a state of incommunicado would be best.
I don’t usually do “I totally Agree” comments, but I can’t resist for this one.
This really is the most important point of all … if these people stay in communication with each other, offical positions are meaningless.
oh yeah.. look at Tom Delay (of justice) .. he’s been sacked but he still has power.
I wouldn’t doubt. Maybe just maybe, he’ll be the absolute sociopath he always was and turn and bite bush’s hand. I’m thinking a book laying out how incredibly stupid and manipulated bush has been these last five years. Maybe a play by play on the Iraq war lies.
of Richard Nixon, but even HE had more integrity than George W.
Think what Bush would do if he had incriminating tapes of his own conversations in the Oval Office.

is that Karl would rat out Dick to save his own ass along with george’s. My husband says “Silly girl – Dick is in charge of everything.”
