   Yeah, I know, the name hasn’t changed. It still may, it may not.

   There has been so much great stuff written about this scandal already… I can see our Link Libraries growing like crazy. The way it’s working out, we will periodically have these calls for help. If anyone has particularly juicy research that you think would be great to include in one of the diaries, please email the info.

     Nicholas Lemann had a detailed portrait of Rove in the New Yorker, starting from his days as aspiring College Republican (plus his grisly childhood stories). It covers about the same ground as The Atlantic’s piece about one year later, but it is more extensive, and dwells more on the “culture”  that produces people like Rove and his ilk. What I liked was that some of Rove’s earlier victims have also been interviewed (like his one time rival for the chairmanship or whatever of College Republicans).

   On 8 December 2004, Rove was named by Barbara Walters as the “Most Fascinating Person” of the year.

   George W. Bush has referred to Karl Rove as “The Boy Genius”, “The Architect” and “Turd Blossom,” a Texan term for a flower which grows from a pile of cow dung.

   Karl Rove is known for careful management of the press, including the use of humor to put reporters at ease.

   Karl Rove chain smokes unfiltered Camel cigarettes and drinks a pint of vodka every day.

   Karl Rove is a Norwegian-American. According to Bob Woodward’s recent book, Rove is obsessed with the “historical duplicity” of the Swedes, who seized Norway back in 1814. According to Woodward, this nationalism manifested itself as hatred for Swedish weapons inspector Hans Blix. [78]

   Rove is also fascinated by Mark Hanna, President William McKinley’s political adviser.

   Karl Rove’s reputation for alleged political dirty tricks is such that, among both his supporters and critics the phrase “Rovian” has come to be used as a synonym for “Machiavellian”. The documentary Bush’s Brain “…depicts Rove as the most powerful political consultant in American history and, in essence, a co-president” according to USA Today. [79]

   The television show American Dad depicted Rove as a shadowy figure clad in a red robe and cowl. Whenever his name is said a wolf howls, and when he tried to enter a church, he began to burn. He later departed the scene by transforming into a swarm of bats.

   On The Dead Zone the character of Malcolm Janus, a shadowy figure who guides the career of Congressman Greg Stillson, seems to be a fictionalized take on Rove.

       Those links were supplied and sorted (mostly) through Wikipedia…

       I have some more coming shortly. Though, forgive me if I duplicate on the next couple of source lists.

       I always like to start with the places that have the most links already compiled, then move on to to finding little things that haven’t been as widely viewed.

       Have you assigned some people to start sifting through material on certain sites?

       One person can start going throught the material on Booman Tribune, one can sift through dKos, another MyDD, another My Left Wing, HuffPo, the Next Hurrah, Crooks and Liars, etc. .  Each of those jobs should be long ones. If we tackle all of the sites that have been covering this one step at a time it will be time consuming research wise, but it will be worth the effort.

       Another thing we should do is contact some of the people that have provided the best coverage in the Blogosphere and ask them to supply a list of their best  and most pertinent material on their own. It would eliminate the need to scour their sites (to a certain degree). And I am certain if we ask nicely and explain what we are doing they will be glad to help out.

       The added bonus to asking them to sort their own material? If they get sourced and credited for their effort, they will be more likely to point back to this effort as an authoritative “Treasongate” source.

       And remember that I am supplying bulk amounts of material. Some of it is already outdated and/or debunked to a certain degree (or completely). I didn’t even bother to cut and paste the Wikipedia page on Rove since it included too much of what is, IMHO, already debunked material on the CIA leak scandal. They need to update their page in a big way.

       Now… Get ready to duck! I have another large list coming this afternoon/evening. It has some dead links on it so I am trying to “re-source” them through alternative sources before I put it up.

      “Eric S. Edelman, an under secretary of defense and former deputy national security adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney, “would have been well advised” to tell Congress this spring about his “involvement” with the investigation into the C.I.A. leak case, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said in a statement on Thursday.

       President Bush installed Mr. Edelman in the post this summer, using a recess appointment to bypass the Senate confirmation process. Mr. Edelman told the committee in a written statement in May that “to the best of my knowledge, I am not presently the subject of any governmental inquiry or investigation.”

       But Mr. Edelman is identified by his former job title in the indictment of I. Lewis Libby Jr., who resigned last Friday as Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff and national security adviser. The office of Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special counsel in the case, has confirmed that Mr. Edelman was the “then principal deputy” to Mr. Libby in the indictment.

       But the indictment describes Mr. Edelman as among a handful of people with whom Mr. Libby held discussions in June and July of 2003 about whether information about the trip that Joseph C. Wilson IV made to Niger at the request of the Central Intelligence Agency could be shared with reporters. Mr. Edelman’s inclusion in the indictment suggests that he could be among the current and former aides to Mr. Cheney called as witnesses in any trial of Mr. Libby.

       Mr. Edelman ceased work for Mr. Libby on June 6, 2003, to begin language training in preparation for a posting as ambassador to Turkey.

       The indictment says that Mr. Libby and Mr. Edelman spoke by telephone on or about June 19, 2003, before Mr. Wilson’s name became public. It says that Mr. Edelman asked Mr. Libby in June 2003 whether information about Mr. Wilson’s trip could be disclosed to the press to rebut allegations that Vice President Cheney had called for the trip.

       As under secretary of defense for policy, Mr. Edelman holds one of the most senior positions in the department, a post previously held by Douglas J. Feith.”

It was Eric Edelman — not John Hannah — whom Mr. Libby spoke to by telephone in June 2003 about whether information about the trip by the former envoy, Joseph C.
