A gypsy girl, injured in an attack that killed her mother, sits in her home in the southern Iraqi city of Diwaniya November 2, 2005. Iraq’s tiny community of gypsies are famous for their dancing and singing, which many Iraqis enjoy, but for years they have been socially ostracized. Now they say their way of life is under threat from religious extremists. The gypsy community of around 250 families who live near the southern town of Diwaniya say they have been attacked by Shi’ite militias and they fear for their future.

Tears of a Clown
by William ‘Smokey’ Robinson
Now if there’s a smile on my face
it’s only there tryin’ to fool the public
but when it comes down to foolin’ you;
Now honey, that’s quite a different subject
But don’t let my glad expression
give you the wrong impression
Really I’m sad
I’m sadder than sad
You’re gone and I’m hurtin’ so bad
Like a clown I pretend to be glad
Now there’s some sad things known to man
but ain’t too much sadder than the tears of a clown
when there’s no one around
Now if I appear to be carefree
it’s only to camouflage my sadness
In order to keep my pride I try
to cover the hurt with a show of gladness
But don’t let my show convince you
that I’ve been happy since you decided to go
Oh, I need you so
I’m hurt and I want you to know
Now there’s some sad things known to man
but ain’t too much sadder than
the tears of a clown
when there’s no one around
Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my sadness hid
Smiling in the public eye
But in my lonely room I cry
the tears of a clown
when there’s no one around
Now if there’s a smile on my face
Don’t let my glad expression
Give you the wrong impression.
Don’t let this smile I wear
Make you think that I don’t care
Really I’m sad
Hurtin’ so bad…

This morning I just saw a “I (heart) Gitmo) sticker on the back window of a Ford pick up truck.
Danni and I were outraged and …. numb. I wanted to throw rocks at the bastard, who cut through our bus stop as a short cut instead of stopping at the sign. But there were kids there.
The girl petting our dog asked what Gitmo was as I was talking to Danni and Danni said, “it’s a concentration camp like what the Nazis did”. And the girl asked, “why would he (the driver) love that?”
I flipped off a Hummer when my boy and I walked to school the other day. Bad parent, I know. He thought it was hilarious.
I don’t have any actually. It’s just that there were kids around. Both my kds, sadly, know I can flip cars, people off.
I want a squirt gun that has some sort of acid or liquid in it that will eat away at those stickers. 🙂
Remind me to tell you my encounter with a “W” Hummer dude in a store line sometimes. I made a snarky comment to him and I thought he was going to physically assault me right there.
I always clean up after my dog, unless he craps on a Republican lawn.
This is getting too confessional. I think it deserves a diary…
Janet, do what i do, especially if it was putting the children around you in danger, Get Plate number and Report to Cops!
I do this everytime someone puts others in danger, especially in a Vehicle, Dangerous Driving, Whatever.
They may not do anything at time, except possibly in a Situation you were in with witnesses, they may come for a report. But my action, Hopefully, might be reporting what others have previous, and with Plate Number they may Catch The Basturd, Sooner Rather than Later!!!!!
he went slow… no danger – was just a prick.
We have our own problems up here with dangerous drivers. We have skid marks from where the SAME driver who has HIT his OWN child in his OWN driveway has endangered the lives of all of us here. Ran my husband off the road TWICE — anyways where he almost ran into my son and the boy walking him home.
We have called and called the Sheriff. They do NOTHING here. This driver hasn’t any licence or insurance. Neighbors are now reduced to throwing things as his truck speeds by. We have all called the Sheriff… and they won’t do a thing.
This is why I walk or drive my daughter to school now.
Someone is going to be killed before they do anything. That’s how bad it is here. The Sheriff came to MY house and told me that I could make a citizens’ arrest on the guy but that would open me up to be counter-sued.
Why does what you say Not Surprise Me!!!!!!!
Welcome to the 21st Century and a Society Destroying itself from Within!!!!
“They” say they care about life and freedom – and then go and bomb the shit out of a country while stripping us all of our rights.
Children should not have to ask about war.
Children should not have to know about the evils that humankind does to each other.
Children should not have to know about illegal prisons.
Children need to know about the world but the world doesn’t need to be so cruel.
A candle until the children can be safe everywhere from the pain of war.
Chalk it up to Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” policy.
Gawd I wish my kids didn’t know about this… but I’m grateful they care and are aware.
They are two more people who wont grow up to be soldiers.
‘Pappa; why does President Bush want to go to war?’
‘Why does he want to kill people?’
‘Maybe he’s just a bad president!’
My son’s musings just before the war – 8 years old at the time.
Danni who is now 11 asked me at the start of this quagmire when I said they think Iraq has weapons – she said “well, shouldn’t we be SURE??”
She also commented that the Iraq children will call us terrorists.
Observant little rascals, aren’t they? And demonstrated clarity.
Your Danni and the youngest asklet are the same age – he’ll be 11 next week.
How many more children will die?
How many more families will be heartbroken?
All for the greed of a few, all based on a lie!
Peace

I get the shivers reading material on this website:
I have a vague recollection this event was reported but not pursued in MSM – perhaps useful to check a site like Daily Kos.

They also bully the students by asking them to do as many push ups as they can… then saying they can “be a man” if they sign up. As posted by SecondNature today elsewhere here.
CodePink and other groups are having a Counter-Recruitment Action Nov 17th – 18th. I have a diary with the info on it.
Looks like that rock climbing wall is a traveling prop Mr. Airhart (my diary yesterday) is facing expulsion from Kent State for climbing that wall….
I look forward to the day when we only burn candles as a source of light, as oposed to a sign of sorrow.
