Welcome newcomers! Please introduce yourself
Come on in!
Coffee & Tea under the window, platters of treats on every table
Newspapers are in their regular spot next to the door

Please recommend (and unrecommend the Cafe & Lounge from yesterday)

May the 4’s be with you
A great time was had at the cafe yesterday. Booman spent much of the evening here — he was a lively addition to the mix. And the live music was great!
Best of all, we had several new friends at the Cafe yesterday and last night. Let’s all remember that our cafe had it’s roots as the Official Welcome Wagon. And if you see a shy face lurking around, give them a hearty welcome!
Please, if you’re new to the group, introduce yourself — we can’t tell you’re here unless you do! And we’ve got a seat reserved at every table just for you.
Me: What’s our motto? Grandleezy really loud: FUN!!
I know this is the quiet time, but I think 106 comments (combined with that crazy Marin County Tour of mine) will grind the cafe to a death crawl.
So here’s a fresh page — and I’m not going anywhere (except maybe to empty the dishwasher).
I’ve got a stack of Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Steak Fries if anyone’s hungry after the Breakfast Feast.
Ooooh let me be the first to enter the cafe, tho no doubt by the time I get this posted, others will have beaten me here.
I’m off now to play a video game where I rule the world, so after I take care of a few countries I will be back….
Post your score here — We’re expecting great things!
Diane101 rules the world! What a great idea! So much better than what passes for global leadership in the real world these days!
🙂
yeah…I rule.,….taking a break from my game, just lost about 75 troops and tanks, must rebuild and regroup…I am actually fighting as a German at the moment, tring to capture France and I’m having a devil of a time as I only have tiny little planes available, not so good with anti aircraft fire.
When I play as a russian, I get all the way up to nano tech…with all kinds of cool robots and such.
I am playing Empire Earth, btw…
Well I’m ready to head back in, see you all in a bit.
So I will post here a few other pics from my San Fran trip, as I love your Golden Gate photo!
This is so nice. Thank you, and put up more if you’ve got them.
The light in your photos–including the one on the other thread–is wonderful! That’s one of the best pixs of the bridge that I’ve ever seen, but my gaze keeps wandering back to the seals. They’d have fit right into our “Relaxed Animal Gallery” during the Thursday night Cafe.
katiebird, I loved your photo drive!
For many more outstanding photos of SF and environs check out the SFGate Chronicle Press,(scroll down page to Mystical San Francisco) there are many beautiful shots.
Enjoy…later
Peace
Those are addictive. I agree with the comments of how you’re able to find the light in such compelling times.
….tell me they’re all just sleeping, right?

I like the words you choose and the way they sound when spoken. I made something using as many of them as I could. I thought I would ask first before posting it since it’s incorporated what you’ve written.
Those words aren’t mine!
😉
i put them together that way, but the wrods themselves aren’t “mine” — I am all about putting things oput there and seeing what happens — not possessive with words, me.
Cool, that’s good to hear. You captured a state of life with them and it reminded me of a group of people I think have had no choice in a power forcing that life onto them.

I understood every word of what you said but I’m not sure that means either one of us could be understood any more than happens now. 😉 I’m glad you could feel the words. I’m curious to see who might see the deeper running subject in it.

to try to better explain …
you seem to speak/hear me, so I thought you might understand…
Part of the appeal in writing is the creation of something that didn’t exist before you shaped it. The work draws from the creator in a variety of ways blended together. This isn’t solely a description but also some reactions inspired.
Nuf said.
Thanks.
I must become a tree now, for a short time.
Thanks for the link to photo exhibition. It was/is a great find. There are many talents here and capturing the simple magnificence of a moment in life is an art.

That’s the same one, isn’t it? I confuse easily…;)
Yes, it’s the same. I misread your comment.
(I’m the one easily confused, you’ll see that as time goes by.)
I love the neighborhood where I live. The best thing about it is the trees that form canopies over all the streets and the fact that its just three blocks from the Mississipi River. Many years ago Dutch Elm’s Disease killed most of the elm trees, but one hearty soul survived in my back yard. While my house is small and comfy – the tree is enormous and is my pride a joy. Here’s a picture:
Thats the roof of my house at the bottom of the picture to give you some perspective. And, as you can imagine, I’ve got just a few leaves on the ground that have yet to be dealt with this fall.
Sometimes I just stand under the tree and look up for awhile. Not being a poet (I’ll just be reading tonight), its hard to explain the feeling of comfort and place this tree provides. But its a real soul-feeder and I’m so lucky to have it in my life!
An elm tree! In Kansas City we once had entire boulevards of Dutch Elm trees, magnificent creatures that lent our city some of their dignity and beauty. And then: gone, now in many cases replaced by puny Bradford Pears. I still grieve for those elms. My son has never known what boulevards look like when they’re lined with giants, but they were the scenery of my psyche.
Funny that you said this — I was just thinking about Ward Parkway in the late 60s and Dad telling us about Dutch Elm disease and how it would all change soon.
And it did.
The photo says more than words could carry. That is one hella lot of leaves to rake though.
Yeah, but the shade they provide to my little patio in the summer makes it all worthwhile. Besides, I just blow and mulch (now lets see you write a poem about that!)
Ok, sounds like fun as long as I don’t have to rake. Composting does a lot with them but it takes a while.
Fire up that leafblower.
If I don’t get to them soon – the snow and ice of a Minnesota winter will take care of most of the composting thats necessary. Not much motivation for me to get out there and take care of them, now is it?
I held off on dragging the leafblower into it but it was a strong temptation.
The days pass slow when there’s nowhere to go
Here I am once again in the cold
Try as I might to avoid a cilled night
They do make me a sight to behold.
Warm afternoon sun causing colors to run
Changing my view on the grey
Welcome the breeze flowing in through the trees
Savor the taste of a new Autumn day
I shade them with love, silently watch from above
Part of the family as any believes
They can’t hear me chuckle as I see their knees buckle
Carrying load after load of those leaves
Wow – thanks. What a wonderful gift to my magnificent elm and me! We will both treasure it.
My pleasure, glad you enjoy it. I’ll bet the trees really do laugh at us from time to time.
Took it easy this morning and let the spouse have the computer without me nagging him. 🙂 Now I’m nagging him to get his butt in the shower — we have a bus to catch in about 35 minutes! Heading out to see “Good Night and Good Luck”, then having dinner on the way home — we’re taking transit to (a) give the car a rest, (b) save gasoline and the environment, and (c) allow the spouse to have an extra drink or two with a minimum of guilt. And the bus we’re catching stops practically in front of our apartment complex (just one street over), so it’s handy.
Need to get myself put together — earrings, makeup, the works — so see you folks this evening…
That sounds like a nice evening out. I think the transit systems should make a comeback. They’re made to look like fun in the films, as they should be. Getting there is half the fun, so they say. Have a good time and it’s good to hear that driving won’t be an issue to compromise.
We’re inching closer!
Total Visits to the Booman Tribune: 999,604
Check this out 999,714 it’s moving right along.
Pretty exciting! I wonder if anybody’s getting the fireworks ready?
If we get as many visitors this hour as last (471) it will happen within the hour.
That’s a healthy traffic flow.
Is there anything on the main page about it? I haven’t traveled out of this thread much today yet.
I just dropped a BREAKING NEWS into the current front page story, but I don’t think anybody has noticed yet. Boo knows we’re close though, because he was there in the diary this morning when ask, I believe, first mentioned it.
Looks like this may be a special moment just between us, rumi. We Were There. Or will be. Or maybe are. I’d better go check!
Can’t say about the fireworks but I’m calling dibs on the leafblower.
I’m still partially in tree-mode.
Ha! And I’ll march up and down with a rake over my shoulder.
Woohoo!
Great, Man Eegee! And I’ve got the matches. . .
999.980 and firing up the torches.
Total 999,845
Total 999,914
I was just stopping by before heading out.
I’ve been wanting to wander around The Village for an hour or so…
But, now. But now!
999,925 and standing by with kerosene and a fire extiguisher,…just in case. A million came up quick didn’t it?
Looks Like we’re there!!!
and since the cafe has restarted, here’s a link to my Cranberry side dish recipe for the Thanksgiving side dish fair.
Enjoy!
Katie, this morning you said it would be good to hold all the recipes in one place so we wouldn’t have to remember where we saw them.
How about if one of you guru’s collect them all plus the stories at the end of November and republish them all at once…say first week of December?
I’d love to see that.
Thanks
Puget4,
I wonder if we could start one and have hosts or others who started diaries with that kind of thing go through their diaries that they happen to remember has that info (are there too many articles in that sentence?).
They could copy and paste from the one diary into the other in comments.
It’s not going to be long before it’s gone forever.
Whatever you think will work, I’m all for it. There’s not a lot of recipes so far, but I KNOW they’ll be worth collecting.
How would one go about doing what you suggested?
That actually sounds like a good idea.
CONGRATULATIONS BOOMAN!
Whew Hoo!
woohoooo
Glad I could be a part of this.
Congratulations Booman wherever you are.
Beat me! Great minds and all that…:{)
Peace

As chocolate ink says on the front page, it couldn’t happen to a nicer site!!!
feel like the fish from the tank in Finding Nemo after they’ve made their escape and are floating on the ocean in bags….
“Now what?”
😀
I had that same thought written up and ready to post.
Great to hear about the Susan/Buzzflash link. I think that may be how I landed here or possibly one of 3 other sites.
There have been a few mentions on MSNBC as well.
Just happen to be hanging around the cafe today…and yes this is just great news…hot double damn. And by the way susan was linked on buzzflash today from a diary she did on Thursday.(which was Bush Breaks Another Record).
I’m telling you all that is is a vry great picture day. I just left RUB DMC and those pictures were horrorfying to me, as you surely must know. I like the pictures here a lot and want more and more. :o)
I am ready now for my owed sunsets from a promise from andif…;o)
As far as I know now, I no longer have to go to Memphis to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can we celebrate now!!!!!?????? Hugs to everyone and a big hardy WELCOME TO THE FROG POND TO THE NEW COMERS!~~~~~~~~~~
We’re not in Kansas any more!
Who’s not in Kansas anymore?? 🙂

the minimum coordination to pull off this navigation without disaster....he
risked the quick glance up from the floor for a fraction of a partial second
to be sure...and they were waiting for him....guiding to the chair...assuring
the safe arrival...and the sudden breath of relief, safe journey end...washed
