Courage Under Fire: Ian Fishback, Joseph Darby & Bunnatine Greenhouse

Joseph Darby, Ian Fishback and Bunnatine Greenhouse deserve the highest accolades available to heroes in this country.

Why?

Because each did the right thing, taking a moral action despite knowing the problems that would come to beset them.
Captain Ian Fishback, a member of the 82nd Airborne who has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, recently reported he witnessed torture and abuse during his service and that he was unable in 17 months of trying to get a clear direction or definition within the Army on what actions towards prisoners were allowable and which were not. This West Point graduate and devout Christian then sent a letter to Arizona Senator John McCain in which he stated in part:

“…We are America, and our actions should be held to a higher standard, the ideals expressed in documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution…”

Fishback is now stationed at Fort Bragg (North Carolina), his career soon to be shattered because he chose righteousness.

Ian Fishback deserves to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his efforts despite ‘enemy’ action.

Joseph Darby discovered pictures of the abuse going on at Abu Ghraib Prison and alerted his military superiors. Then he became a pariah within his own unit, despite praise from Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. His personal safety and that of his family became a major concern and, as a result, the Darbys have been in protective military custody. He has been accused by some of being un-American and un-patriotic.

Joseph Darby deserves to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his efforts despite ‘enemy’ action.

Bunnatine Greenhouse was recently demoted from her position as the top civilian reviewer of contracts with the Army Corps of Engineers. Why? Because she was doing her job representing the taxpayers of this country and battling against no-bid, ‘insider’ deals. Such a sinner! One would think that President George (Jesus in my heart, integrity in the White House) Bush would be rushing to her defense but, well, he’s been a bit distracted of late.

Bunnatine Greenhouse deserves to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The greatness of this country has always been dependent on such people not only being able to determine right from wrong but also taking appropriate action despite the ramifications.

We (the taxpayers, the individuals who desire to do right and live moral lives) desperately need more people like these three.

The spineless, amoral politicians, the evil-doers, the ones who centuries ago would giddily volunteer to help crucify Jesus for their political and personal gain, want less. In fact, they want zero.

Which side are you on?
