I was just surfing around the world newspapers and found some kinda disturbing information about Tamiflu.
“Public health authorities in Asia and Europe are reporting Rare but serious psychaitric reactions, up to and including suicide, in children who have been given the drug Tamiflu to treat normal influenza.”
I am wondering how long this drug has been on the market? I would guess with a lot of people running scared all over the world lots of them have probably been poping these pills whether they are sick or not. Who knows what really is going on in Asia? I do know we (America) is so far down on the waiting list, I believe someone on Nighline said we will not be prepared for Avian Flu anytime soon. Perhaps 3 years and even then we won’t have anywhere near the medication needed and even then they aren’t even sure Tamiflu will treat Avian Flu (Bird Flu)
The article does say that the numbers have been small and there is no proof that Tamiflu caused the problems, health authorities at the European Medicines Agency in London were alarmed enough to issue an advisory on Friday.
Another thing in the article that may freak some Govt. officals and Health officals in other countries out ….”The warning comes at a time when most developed countries have purchased millions of dollars worth of the previously little-used drug for widespread prescription in the even of human influenza pandemic.”
Also the US FDA said there is not enough information to issue a warning….maybe that is because the BUSH ADMIN DRUG it’s feet and didn’t order the DRUG.
I am not sure if this is really anything, or could turn into something, but I just wanted to let y’all know.
Anyway the article is here in the International Herald Trib
I have been leery about all this bird flu fear stuff and especially since I read that Rumsfeld has stock in this vaccine company- with my tin foil hat on I thought what a great way to ‘control’ the masses with a vaccine… sorry, but I don’t trust any plans that come from Bushco.
Tamiflu was approved by the FDA in 1999, but the improtant thing to remember is that drug studies contain relatively few patietns compared with the number of people who take the drug after it’s marketed. Consequently, some side effects don’t become apparent until a larger pool of patients have taken the drug, simply because the numbers in studies were too small. We’ve seen this numerous times over the years, with antibiotics that were approved, only to find out afterward that the drug caused kidney failure and had to be pullled off the market.
It wouldn’t surprise me to find out that there are side effects of Tamiflu beyond those on the product label. With the vast increase in the number of pople taking Tamiflu that’s likely to occur, we’ll probably learn a few new things about the drug.
And that’s why they call it Phase IV postmarketing surveillance. The patients get to pay for the honor of being the guinea pigs for a new drug.
Thanks for this information. I also can’t imagine them testing this drug on Children, so maybe that is why they are getting some results on child suicides. Pretty scarey stuff. So now Rummy is going to have more blood on his hands. This Administration is the bloodiest Admin ever.
Usually there is very little evidence of safety in children available when people begin using newer drugs in children.
