Ingredients
1 package (10 ounce) frozen broccoli spears
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
1 cup poultry broth
1/2 cup half and half (milk and cream)
1/2 cup dry white wine
Salt and pepper to taste
1/8 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups chopped or sliced turkey
1 cup chopped or sliced ham
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup ground nut meats
Instructions
Cook broccoli until barely tender; drain. Place in 1-1/2 quart baking dish; cover with turkey and ham.
To make mornay sauce, melt butter and stir in flour in saucepan; add broth and half and half and cook until thick and smooth, stirring constantly. Stir in wine, salt and pepper and Worcestershire. Pour over turkey and ham.
Mix Parmesan cheese, crumbs and ground nut meats and sprinkle over the top; bake in 350-degree F. oven until mixture bubbles. This Turkey Mornay is nice baked and served in individual baking dishes, as well.

Boran2 just checked in safe ‘n’ sound. We know Andi’s back home. Is everybody home who’s coming home tonight? Katiebird, did you guys ever get to fix your dinner tonight?
Whether you plan to feed your family with the leftovers, or give them away. . .the turkey, not your family. . . if you have some recipes for leftovers, here’s your audience for them.
I’m off to bed. Goodnight, you crazy people for whom I feel enormously thankful tonight.
Love,
Nancy/kansas
I’m just about to tuck myself in bed with the Totos also. I’ve heard from Gooserock who’s had to face the world of turkey, pork roast, smashed potatoes, gravy, pie, pie, and more pie and all the other wonderful bounties of a T-Day in the USA if you’re lucky.
He said he bought himself a bag of carrots just so his innards (my word, not his) wouldn’t forget what his diet will be like when he gets home again.
They’re all having a wonderful time. Five 20 somethings, three 50 somethings and one almost 80. All are wonderful friends.
Good night you all. I continue to be so very thankful.
in Australia. Sigh
I don’t do Thanksgiving, cuz of the whole genocide thing, but late November was the only time I could get Tofurkies in the local food co-op, and boy are they tasty.
I made a Seitan “turkey” for last year’s mid-winter celebration with myriad’s family. I stuffed it with cornbread stuffing and made a “skin” out of filo dough. It was pretty good, but not as good as a Tofurky.
Saw you over at bird blogging — Stay up late, get up early. Time for you to get a digital camera so you can do something really productive* with all these waking hours — take some damn pictures already and start sharing them with us.
* killing people off in interesting ways is actually negative productivity.
See, the only course I ever failed was Cinematography. Almost all of the entire semester’s grade rested on our single film project. I filmed and filmed and filmed and when I opened the camera. . .I had wound it wrong and all of it had come undone inside.
So did I. Come undone inside, that is. Come unwound. Snap my shutter closed. I have never recovered from the effing–as in “F”-ing trauma. Delicate flower that I am.
And don’t try to use that old argument on me that a digital camera doesn’t have film! Yeah, right, that’s what they all say. Well, I don’t believe it, and nobody can make me open up one of them to look. 😛
What rhymes with Luddite?
How is everyone today?
We did have our dinner last night. And then, I totally pooped out. I guess the “cold” or whatever this is & the trauma of losing my computer overwhelmed me.
We’ve got a couple of plans for recovering it, but I’m still unhappy.
Maybe getting my hair and eyebrows worked on will perk me up. But I doubt it. I don’t usually enjoy the experience while it’s happening. I’ll do it, because I’m in desperate need. But I wish I didn’t feel so grubby.
Ah, well. Getting back to the dinner report (which I guess I never gave). We had turkey, zucchinni-stuff, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry-something, gravey and pumpkin pie.
And — I didn’t nibble on anything at all — not all day. And, I measured out each of the above items (about 1/2 cup each & 3oz turkey, 1/8 pie).
And, it was all wonderful. In the past I’d have been nibbling on the stuffing or tasting this or that. But, I didn’t do any of that.
And then we watched Survivor. And for some reason, I’m not so into Stephanie this year.
WoW! I feel better now….
Stephanie is a little full of herself this time, isn’t she? Tsk. This has not been one of my fav seasons. Too much swaggering and chest thumping. Not to mention stupidity.
“zucchinni-stuff” and “cranberry-something.”
I love that.
And congrats on your triumph in the One Day at a Time Department!
(modestly) we’re very creative in this house.
How is your son doing? I’ve thought about him a lot this last day or so.
And did you really forget to bring some pumpkin pie home?
I haven’t talked to m’boy yet today. He’s at his dad’s house right now and, I assume, still sleeping. Thanks for your concern.
I DID forget the pie!
About to go brave the maddening crowds at the local Penney’s; they have some good deals on sweaters this morning; one thing about still being a “person of size” is they’ll hopefully have stuff left that fits me. Then promised spouse breakfast out before we go into the depths of Hell, aka Toys R Us, to find goodies to donate for next weekend’s Trains for Tots. Since we’re not doing a family gift exchange on my side of the family, we’re taking the money budgeted for holiday shopping and spending it on kids who might not have such a happy holiday season otherwise. 🙂
Great day yesterday, and even greater day today — I don’t feel stuffed, and when I got on the scale, NO weight gain! Very cool…
Oh, and my sister found my mom’s Mexican nativity set in the Christmas stuff she brought home! She had it all ready for me, so sometime this weekend I’ll be able to get it set up. It’s made out of some sort of terracotta or other pottery, and hand-painted; it’s not all gaudy and tacky looking like a lot of other nativity sets I’ve seen. I especially like the chubby Mary. 🙂 I’d like to get some sort of enclosure (mini-stable) for it, so I may head to Cost Plus during the weekend to see what I can find.
Anyway, off to shop till I drop…(not really)…
Have a great day!
Have fun shopping!
(I guess I should start getting the next cafe ready…can we all just play here for a little while?)
Honey chile, you hang out here as long as your lil heart desires. Or at least until you get that diary ready. Man, it was quiet around here yesterday after the first hectic diary.
I felt guilty every minute that I spent on the couch instead of at the keyboard. But, it felt so good to be stretched out and relaxed — I just didn’t get up. How’s that for a guilty pleasure?
Yeh, Get to work!
(ha, ha)
This diary looks perfect for a Friday morning. Maybe no one will notice?
Hi Cali — Congratulations on a successful holiday!
And your shopping plans sound fun. Maybe you could take a picture of the nativity set when you’ve got it all together?
Good morning :o)
Has anyone at all heard from Military Tracy today or yesterday?
She was on my mind a lot. Not that I’m concerned beyond hoping she was able to rest her bones a little. She amazes me, truly. Actually, you are all pretty amazing. Thought a lot about how fortunate I feel to have a place to connect with so many like minded beings.
I’ve been wondering where Brinn is, too.
I haven’t seen her all week. I hope she’s okay.
I wanted to email her yesterday, but I’ve lost her address.
I hope she stops in today.
(Does anyone her have her email)
I talked to her on the phone last weekend, and she sounded good, despite the craziness at their house Friday night. I’m hoping she’ll stop by here today…
I’m glad to see you around again-we all missed you!
Okay, I’m really going to put together a cafe now…
You all missed me?
Thanks for the little lump in my throat ;o)
I saw one comment I think..yesterday from Brinn. Wondering about her too. And where is brother Feldspar?
Calling all frogs :o)
It seems as if Bro only pops out on Sundays. Appropriate. 🙂 Maybe he keeps blog-busy somewhere else. I miss him, too! Such a kind and funny spirit.
