Did you see poor Duke blubbering on your teevee set today? But of course, Crooks & Liars has the video.
Bring your hankies!
And Atrios weighs in wryly: Dukestir Say Bye Bye
Then there’s Josh Marshall who’s also on the trail of Katherine Harris’s involvement in the Dukester case:
It’s always nice to get a nod. But even without it, we’re still happy to see the St. Petersburg Times picked up the story we broke back on the 21st about Katherine Harris’s special $32,000 one day haul from Mitchell Wade’s MZM, Inc.
Late Update: Meanwhile, this column from today’s Charlotte Sun suggests that Harris may have a history of bundled or coerced campaign donations.
Schweeet.
I wrote to Katherine back in December 2000 when she was Secretary of State of Florida, and busily disenfranchising black people and creating obstacles to a fair count of the state presidential vote.
In my e-mail, I told Katherine that — Bood Abides alert! — I was looking forward to seeing her wearing Susan McDougal‘s old orange jumpsuit!
Even if it’s five years late, maybe I’ll get my wish after all!
DeLay has a reputation as one of the most effective Whips (both majority and minority) in the history of the House of Representative. His nickname, “the Hammer,” is a not so subtle reference to his ability, both as Whip and as Majority Leader, to get the votes, to get the Reps on the floor, and to marshall support.
Is that reputation related to his abilities as a politicker and hard-nosed operative in the Peoples’ Chamber?
Or is it more of a reflection of what appears to be a massive bribery and pseudo protection racket, in which chief Capo Tom DeLay gets what he wants because everyone knows if you cross Tom the money dries up?
Perhaps that reputation (The Hammer) is more related to his position as chief dispenser and controller of bribe money through his close contacts with Abramoff?
Yeah, lucky Tom.
Poor guy masterminded laundering corporate money in Texas just to get a Republican majority in the statehouse, just to get Texas redistricted. That alone is (evil) genius.
But he really needed a Republican majority at the national level to get access to the big money, so he could repeat his Texas maneuver, and in the process end up owning the loyalty of the Republican party (and thereby the US Congress), and thus be able to promise bigger favors giving him access to bigger bribes..er.. donations.
Pretty damn smart for an exterminator.
By comparison, Newt merely figured out his party needed a plan they could sell, and that pointing out the obvious truth (Dems at the time were corrupt) would garner an audience for their plan while taking votes from their opponents.
And History says Newt is a political genius and poor ol’ Tom is just a powerful politican.
Hehehe… here’s hoping Tommy gets all the belated recognition he so deeply deserves for what he’s accomplished.
seems to have discovered that the system design is easier to run as a racket than as a government.
Oooh, Katherine Harris…
I bet a lot of people would like to see her decked out in Orange.
Which gave me one heck of an idea. Tell me what you think:
Therefore, I propose we open a new program — Republican Prison Sleepovers!
Yes, to raise funds to help pay for bridges to nowhere, we will open up wonderful guest cells, right next to our favorite former political players. We can get one on either side, and one across the hall for each former pol. And we can auction off the rights to spend a night.
So what will your ‘contribution’ get you?
So book your nights in the Judy Miller Suite next to Katherine Harris, the Tim Russert suite next to Tom Delay, or any of the other wonderful journalist themed suites next to our growing list of DC’s finest. Just because your sleepover buddy has a standard cell doesn’t mean you’ll suffer — the furnishings will put the dowdy ol’ Lincoln Bedroom to shame.
Act now, and get a free stenographer’s pad! Great for autographs, and preserving talking points for posterity!
.
Lots more to come?

Add the mercenaries, and the U.S. DoD and the Pentagon can fight their personal wars of democracy without approval and oversight of Congress.
We should keep track of the so-called security corporations, which are nothing less than French Legionnaires, British Ghurkas or Attila’s Huns.
Not empire building, rather destruction of civilization or the spread of disease and death.

Excellent, but we’re still only scratching the surface. This goes much deeper. There’s a good reason why guys like Conrad Black are still smiling under all of the legal threats.
Terrible admission that I actually enjoyed his humiliation and couldn’t help from actually yelling “crook” at the TV while he sniffled.
Old fool knew damn well what he was doing was miles beyond the pale. I hope his ass sits in a truly unpleasant prison but, no doubt, he’ll get min security duty and come out all Martha Stewart “cleansed”. Can’t wait for the book tour and the interviews on Fox with Sean Hannity or Ollie North trying to rehab his reputation (not).
Whats’ interesting is that MZM (ithink that it) is a defense contractor in intelliegence. They are bribing politicians to promote the paranoia “that the world is a dangerous place”. It isn’t dangerous. It’s only dangerous when the United States enters the picture…then it gets real dangerous.
These security firm are promoting paranoia. The defense industry is promoting a word view simiilar to the Israeil view of the Palestinians.
The Armed forces, however, appear largely to HATE Bush. Though many generals are being bribed and involved in bribes as well and this is widely reported to be going on in Iraq with all the Cash money floating around. Seymour Hersh has commented on this.
So the corruption we are seeing is a corruption of perception as well as a corruption of the law.
