It’s in the triple digits, but I ‘d have to look at an archive list to figure out the exact number. Suffice it to say that I remember most cities and towns by which music venue is located there.
Being new to the group I haven’t felt completely comfortable exposing my early morning happy hour tendencies, but now that it’s 4:30 somewhere in the U.S of A I feel I can join in. All this talk has helped me focus on planning the drinks for my tree trimming party for Saturday night — that’s a CHRISTMAS tree trimming party just to be clear (next week I’m going to a Hannukah Bush trimming party and at some point I think I’m invited to a Festivus tree trimming party).
Anyway I’m thinking that at some point we’ll have Peppermint Patties (hot chocolate and peppermint schnaps with whipped cream on top and a peppermint stick to stir with). mmmmm
Haven’t had either but I think I might just have to pick me up some. One of my favorite sipping drinks is Wild Turkey with Honey (it comes that way, you don’t make it. ) For some reason its hard to find around here, but it goes down smooth on a winter’s night.
I think your peppermint patty sounds great (and I am going to have to go pour myself some of the Godiva white chocolate I have on the kitchen counter, I think).
I’ve never been clear what Festivus is … but a bunch of people are celebrating it and invited me. So I figured why not … I do remember hearing something about a metal pole. I guess I just assumed they were hiring strippers?

I’ve seen her a few times but, you know, it’s never as good as the first time.
Saw her first in the early 90s, as one of the last shows to ever play The Stephen Talkhouse, this trendy place that used to be on Miami Beach. Had no idea who she was. I’d been invited by a new friend. We got there early, it was freezing cold on the beach, so we paid our $7, grabbed a table by the stage and waited for the first of our drink minimums to arrive.
Eventually, the place was so packed you could barely move. Then this little hippie looking girl walks in, climbs up on stage, and, giggling, asks the audience, “Has anyone seen my drummer? He, like, bolted I guess. Okay, it’ll just be me, but if anyone sees him wandering around, please grab him.” And then she just went, and she was magic, and I was hooked.
Posted this while the other thread was closing, so I’ll move it over here. Random from my I-tunes played at least one time playlist:
I Think I’m A Clone Now – Weird Al
Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment – Ramones
Apeman – Kinks
Too Shy – Kajagoogoo
Don’t Stand so Clost to Me – Police

The Irish Descendants are an outstanding Irish Folk Pop band from Canada. They do traditional and original Irish music with a strong pop sensibility, and the harmonies in their first couple of cds are really outstanding, almost on a par with the Nylons. For Celtic stuff they’re in a class with the Chieftains or the Battlefield Band, though different because they aren’t as traditional.
Hey Kelly, I just read your story this am called “The Uncola”. It was excellent. I love the corporations gone amuk stories in SF. walked into a restaurant where 3 of us were eating. We were the only ones there (it was mid afternoon and they were on break during sound check next door) and they asked us what was good.
Thanks for that link, dada, those are amazing. If I could rationalize the expense, I’d buy myself that John Lennon print from page 1, and the topless shot of Kris Kristofferson, too.
summer, of ’70, part of an outdoor concert at the football stadium, running from noon to 2AM. Lots of great groups, The Band, Great Speckled Bird?, etc.
Janice was great, but what I remember now is the drunk cowboy who managed to get up on stage, grabbed the mike, said, “Here’s one for boys in Thompson, (MB”), gave her a kiss, and walked off the stage. Well, he had a little assistance by that time. But the crowd gave out a roar, and Janis just cranked out the next song. Never phased her a bit.
Ah! Glenmorangie 18! That is indeed my favorite! I actually drank that for the first time in Edinburgh. I’d befriended the owner of a small restaurant, and as my wife and I were eating some real haggis with tats, out comes the proprietor with a tray of about 10 half-shots of his best single malts. I liked the Glenmorangie the best, and that’s what I always order, when I’m in the mood for Scots whisky and that’s available. A friend of mine swears by Glenlivet, but I think Glenmorangie has just the most perfect combination of flavors. Plus I think it gives a faint but unmistakable mescaline-like buzz!
Hard liquor make Gooserock pissed off and aggressive. I figure, that’s what Republicans are for. As well as I get on with Scots music, the whiskey definitely does not affect me as gracefully.
Beer time is about 90 minutes off yet. We’ll spend a relaxing evening catching up on blog news, and I’ve got some tooling for the shop that’s in the refining step so I’ll spend half an hour with the TEE-vee measuring some hard steel.
Oh crap. Anderson Vanderbilt is airing the liberals’ purge of Christmas.
Through an immigration organization Catholic Welfare (CW), we shipped out from the port of Rotterdam on March 7th, by an ocean liner of the Holland-America Line -was a Dutch troops carrier after WWII to wage war in the colony of Indonesia -. The 10-day journey was of itself an adventure, as soon as the Dover straight meets the Atlantic Ocean, and the waves start to look pretty awesome. Via Halifax, Newfoundland, the Groote Beer arrived in Hoboken, NJ. Unfortunately, a thick fog prevented us from viewing Manhattan and the skyscrapers.

Hey y’all, I just threw this together tonight with on hand stuff and it turned out fanstastically, so I typed it up to put in the house cookbook and thought I’d share:
IndyLib’s EZ Herbed Chicken
3 or 4 chicken breasts, cleaned & split down the middle
3 or 4 cloves fresh garlic (30 or 40 if you’re CabinGirl)
fresh thyme
fresh sage
fresh parsely
fresh marjoram
fresh rosemary
(you really only need a small amount of the fresh herbs, I used leftovers that I bought for T-day)
1/2 lemon cut into slices
1-2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter (optional)
garlic powder
pepper
1/4 cup or less water
Take some kitchen scissors to the herbs, clean & slice the garlic, then put everything on the chicken in a baking dish, with the lemon slices on top. Bake at 350 covered for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake another approx 25 minutes until done.
Presto. Easy, fast, tasty. (You leave that line alone, Second Nature!)
Well, I was going to say that I got a job today, which is very good. But at the moment, my iPod just completely froze up ~ WTF????? AHHHHHH… it won’t do anything. This sucks!
To reset, hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo (assuming you have a clickwheel iPod – you didn’t say).

If it happens a lot, you may need to reformat the iPod; go to the Apple website, click “Support” then “Discussions”, then in the iPod forum search “reformat iPod” and see what you can find…
WOW!!! Thanks Honey!! For all the good info and links. The initial menu and select thing didn’t work, but I will check on the links and Apple help tomorrow. Thank you so much!!!! You are a doll! Smooches!
Sherm did get a job… Yay!! It’s temporary, through the end of March, but the pay is good for around here, even though it will be a commute. But it sounds perfect, since I want to move once the spring hits. And very good timing. Yippee!! Thanks sweetie!

Actually, wanna know how I prevented myself from ever becoming an alki in the first place? (well probably not. at least not today…it is a funny story, tho.)
Seriously overpriced for a boat that was underwater for 6 weeks. There are probably umpteen great deals out there for people with a little cash, some way to move boats and the ability for serious fix-em-upping.
And here I thought it was gin:15. I’ll need to reset my watch.
Well, for you, it can be gin:15…but I still think of that as a breakfast drink from my dead tour days! π
So how many of those Dead shows do you figure that you’ve seen?
It’s in the triple digits, but I ‘d have to look at an archive list to figure out the exact number. Suffice it to say that I remember most cities and towns by which music venue is located there.
I need to add Jerry shows to get near triple digits.
Dead related shows (with at least one member) I probably top out in the nineties. I’d have to look at the tours though to be sure.
adding Jerry and others dead-related bands probably pushes me to around 150. There were a couple of action-packed years n the eighties!
Wowza…I only saw saw them maybe half a dozen times. But, i did hitchhike across the country. Does that count? :>)
in the <strike>>Christmas</strike> Holiday Spirit, I brought the egg nog!
How < strike >ing! π
is so temperamental, my preview wouldn’t show how it looked so I posted it blindly. Oh well, after having some egg nog, it won’t matter much.
Damn! But that looks like a male “cow” peeing into a toilet! And a chicken pooping!
I used to like egg nog. A lot.
the male cow’s consumption of the Rum, it’s integral to the full appreciation of the piece.
Um, not to be a stickler for detail, but male cows don’t have udders.
“cow”
I can’t be expected to read things before commenting. Sheesh! Sometimes punctuation is everything. π
commentating is everything. Great comment!

Glen Morangie 18, on the rocks
It’s been a tough day and the designer kevlar didn’t work…
…Scotch at 6:15 pst…and I’m digging out the good stuff.
.
That’s mean – it’s the best single malt whiskey and affordable for special occasions: 18 years old excellent.
On the rocks is even more cruel for a malt whiskey, so very smooth.

Hey everyone. Andrew just went to sleep to end a busy week. It seems that I missed crabbiness in the ole pond this week. I’m ready for my Bailey’s on the rocks.
You are lucky you missed the crabbiness!
How’s Andrew adjusting the new routine? and Mom? and Dad?
Just 3 weeks till winter break!
The little guy is great. We had to go to Toronto on Tuesday so Andrew could be “interviewed” at the US consulate on Wednesday. He’s still a Chinese citizen, so he needs a visa to enter the States. My students cracked up at the thought of him being interviewed. After a wait of about an hour, we were called to the window, asked a couple of questions, and told that his passport and visa would arrive some time next week. Hey y’all, I just threw this together tonight with on hand stuff and it turned out fanstastically, so I typed it up to put in the house cookbook and thought I’d share:
IndyLib’s EZ Herbed Chicken

It sounds yummy! and healthy.
Yeah yeah yeah. You so underestimate me.

You know, I’ve wondered what people think when they see these threads over the last few days.
Why do I feel guilty in the morning?
I’m pretty sure they think “damn, I missed all the fun again… I need to start hanging with a better crowd…” π

The first salvage boats are beginning to appear.

Seriously overpriced for a boat that was underwater for 6 weeks. There are probably umpteen great deals out there for people with a little cash, some way to move boats and the ability for serious fix-em-upping.
