Iranian Military Transport crashes with over 100 known dead. CNN reports:
TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) — An Iranian military transport plane has crashed near Tehran after hitting a 10-story apartment building, killing at least 110 people — most of them aboard the plane — Iranian officials and state-run media reported.
The air force C-130 — carrying more than 90 people — crashed at about 2 p.m. (1030 GMT) on Tuesday, sparking fires in the apartment building that houses military personnel and their families.
This is the second deadly military plane crash since February, 2003. At that time, 276 were killed. My prayers are with the deceased and their families, as well as with the victims of a suicide car bomb attack on an Iraqi police academy today.
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) – Two suicide bombers detonated explosives inside Baghdad’s main police academy Tuesday, killing at least 43 people and wounding more than 70, police said. Al-Qaida in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack, the capital’s deadliest in months.
The bombing came as Al-Jazeera aired an insurgent video claiming to have kidnapped a U.S. security consultant – the seventh Westerner abducted in Iraq since Nov. 26 – and the U.S. military reported another American soldier killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad.

Supreme Court was hearing a case on the so-called “Solomon Amendment” today. It’s one of the worst laws I’ve ever seen foisted on higher education. Basically it cuts off all finacial aid if all segments of a University or College (including seperate law or graduate programs) don’t give military recruiters untrammeled access and the red carpet treatment in terms of assistance, including making University personnel do the recruiters work in their absence.
It’s always interesting to know who was aboard the plane. I suppose that won’t get reported. It all sounds a little odd.
I wonder what percentage of plane crashes are due to error and what are due to sabotage.
It’s also always interesting to see what else is going on in the world when their is a plane crash.

TEHRAN Dec. 6 — On the ground and in the apartment building many women and children died as schools were closed due to smog warning in the city. The buildings near the airport were occupied by airport workers and military with their families.
Death toll at 128 – BBC News.
An Iranian military plane carrying scores of journalists crashed into a Tehran apartment block and exploded, killing up to 120 people on board the aircraft and on the ground, police and witnesses said.
All 94 of those on board the C-130 transport plane were killed, officials said. Several children, at home because schools were closed due to a smog alert in the capital, were among those who died in the apartment block, they added.
“Both the main and reserve fuel tanks were full which is why the plane went up in flames as soon as it hit the building,” Ahmad Ziaie, the head of Iran’s fire brigade told state television.
U.S. embargo for strategic goods prohibits the sale of all spare parts for civilian and military planes. Most likely crash due to technical failure, see also the most recent crash of Iran passenger plane.

You can’t say that it’s due to mechanical failure because there is an embargo. That’s flimsy
That doesn’t mean anything.
Few planes crash for mechanical reasons. Many have crashed for reasons of sabotage or pilot error . I;m sure the statistics would bear that out. Very few planes crash for mechanical reasons, many go down as a result of sabotage. There is good reason to suspect that this could be sabotage.
Journalists
We have just been hearing about the bombing of Al Jaazera.
Is this a message from the US to other journalists?
