Long before the current crop of thugs descended on Washington and hijacked our Constitution,with the aid of corporate con men, religious zealots and Press shills, Frank Zappa was predicting that America will be swallowed by a Fascist Theocracy.How prophetic was that?
Yesterday, as I was thinking about Frank’s musings thrity odd years ago,two gems stood out for me.First was his quote ” Politics is the entertainment wing of the Military-Industrial Complex”.Can anyone top that?
And here is Frank again: The genial face of American Imperialism will continue so long as it works to the advantage of the powerful;it is when that smile no longer works, the curtains will be parted to reveal the brick wall behind it.
In these powerful gems of insight, Frank educated us in ways only an outcast from our system could.He was even prescient enough to warn us to keep our children away from our churches because he feared they would be molested by the priests!
After reading Frank’s comments on many of the ills afflicting us, I have come to the conclusion Frank must be ranked with Edith Wharton as an American original.At a time we are morning Richard Pryor,I thought it appropriate to pay attention to Zappa’s own contributions.
Why is it that only comedians/entertainers are able to tell the truth without fear?
