I don’t know why, but Madlibs always gets me. I once almost wrecked the car driving back from Yellowstone and we were doing a Madlibs – it came out to be something about playing tennis with elderly cats . . . laughing so hard that I couldn’t see the road.
the spouse has recovered from the unfortunate party incident. My favorite part of my letter to Santa, “So I fell asleep on my way home and drove my towtruck through my neighbor’s attic. I don’t think that was any reason for my neighbor to call me a pathetic raccoon . . . “
Gladly! Though, between now and new years I am either shopping, celebrating, packing or travelling. Maybe in early January on a weekend or something?
I would have said this weekend, but we visit my sister on Saturday, and my wife has the “greening of the church” on Sunday and the next week it is off to Montreal until about January 1st.
I love the holiday season, I just hate the 300 mile +or- drives (one way) involved in celebrating them! lol
All I want for Xmas is a teleporter! Is that too mush to ask for?
Go to the top of the page; you’ll see a link called “diablita’s page”. Click on that and select “Settings”, then click on “Interface Preferences”. You can choose whatever time zone you’re in. Once you’ve done that, click “Save Preferences” at the bottom, then click “Home” at the top of the page and you’re back in business… 🙂
If you go to Display Preferences, you can enter a signature (a cute line that shows up on all your posts, like the one below on this one), how you want comments to display, or other fun stuff… 🙂
Welcome aboard, if you’re new! 🙂
(I smile a lot — makes everyone wonder what I’m up to…)
to 4-digit UIDs being “newbies” — wonder how long till we get our first 5-digit user? (Probably shouldn’t hold my breath, since we usually get new users due to blogosphere upsets, at least so far…)

I wouldn’t say that. I know I came here because it was a little bit smaller and I like the “Don’t be a prick” rule. Plus not be a diarist and only a some times commenter, I feel much more comfortable here.
Plus, Plus, Plus – besides a few blow ups, everybody is nice and caring and it does feel homey.
I don’t know if that’s good for a political blog, but for people who care about politics and don’t want to get into a argumentative or name calling situation this is a perfect place to be.
most of the new users come in when there’s some sort of kerfluffle on some of the other Scoop-based blogs (won’t mention any names) — the other folks tend to drift in quietly.
Hmmm…we could use a “Welcome Wagon” this weekend and Diane’s up to her you-know-what in packing boxes…I could start it this evening, then if someone can monitor it off and on this weekend to make sure folks are properly greeted; the spouse and I are going to be out of the apartment for a couple of days while we take apart the old bed frame and get the new one (we’ll have the laptop with us though — our motel has free high speed Internet 🙂 ).
Any comments from the regular (or irregular) FBC denizens?
Woke up at 3am-ish and couldn’t get back to sleep — had this weird dream that the spouse was driving a bus route over in Fremont CA (across the Bay from us), but instead of a bus he was in our regular car, and we had to squeeze people in, and it was raining…must find out what the Chinese place we ate at last night put in their fried rice… 😉
Taking the opportunity to catch up on some Internet stuff, so I can actually get some work done later in the day…
Welcome to the frog pond, we’re all burrowed into the mud for the remainder of the winter here in my state. But our lap tops still work!
Thanks for asking about the time zone setting… I’d hate to admit how long I’ve been subtracting an hour from EST to CST, but now I’ve got mine change too, hah!!!
Yeh, me too. I don’t think I can handle this two cups at a time thing. There’s way too much going on here for early morning. 2 cups of coffee, cereal, pencils, typing, and soonish — I’ve gotta get dressed and go to work.
The funny thing is, that while I’ve worked nearly my entire adult life in libraries, in almost every department from clerical jobs to professional-level: I am not actually a librarian. And, I don’t really want to be one. I’ve held every position I’ve ever wanted in libraries, I do what I want to do. The bossing people around at work thing isn’t a goal for me.
Also, I’m not really interested in university education for vocational training. When I think about “going back to school” I dream of studying Art History or Portuguese, not Library Science.
People who work for libraries are compulsively responsible people, who even when faced with temptations of great pleasure, always put the greater good first.
You are going to work.
(We computer consultants who work at home are going to do a slight rejigging of our work hours and go get a haircut.)
You work for a company in Massachusetts that wants to hire you but knows you won’t move (and couldn’t afford to move from Indiana to MA). I’ve been doing it for 16 years and can’t imagine working any other way.
I have three computer systems so that I can replicate a customer’s environment on my systems. And, of course, I do have to travel.
Well, it sounds very nice, except for the travel. Do you do all the system stuff yourself? My old job was 25% help desk, technician & 75% programming/web/database.
Now I’m all programming/web/databse and I am losing my grip on system knowledge.
I do all my own system stuff (nobody is coming out here from MA to help me) but that’s not part of what I do for customers.
I’ve got an ultrasparc sun box running solaris and two windows systems (and Jim also has a Mac). Through the company network, I also mess about on AIX systems. Our products don’t run on Linux so I haven’t had to get invovled with them but I don’t think that it would be all that different than Unix on sun or ibm.
Good Morning! This is definitely a two-cup morning.
I spotted the moon this morning and Gooserock grabbed the camera and saved this shot for us all… the setting full moon. If you could see the original, you can see the “Man in the Moon”. Look closely and you can almost see it in this smaller photo.
Actually the thought of something that sweet for breakfast makes me gag. But I’d say things are very quiet this morning and it’s no problem to have a late brunch cafe.
Lovely photo courtesy of wilderness wench.
Good night, froggies. The Cafe is all yours, all night.
I think you should open a new cafe.
< boran2 sneaks into the cafe carrying several heavy boxes > Says to self: How much booze can one Tribber drink? Take it back, please! < leaves boxes > Now, where’s that damned decaf? Hmm…
LOL!
MARSHMALLOW????
So I’m off cutting up snowflakes and madlibbing a letter to Santa and the cafe goes away and a new one gets opened.
I don’t know why, but Madlibs always gets me. I once almost wrecked the car driving back from Yellowstone and we were doing a Madlibs – it came out to be something about playing tennis with elderly cats . . . laughing so hard that I couldn’t see the road.
to the spouse…and his elbow is fine after she threw up on it, thank you very much… 🙂

I need to get a fire place. I really need to get a fireplace. (I just had a 150 gallons of oil dropped in the tank a few days ago… Damn near $400!)
I really really need to get a fireplace.
CM, you’re nearby, stop by and enjoy my wood stove.

Good evening! Say, how do I change the time zone setting to reflect my own?

Hey! Your ID # says you are pretty new around these parts…
Welcome to the Booman Tribune and have a free 4 on me!

kept awake thinking about ripple stitces?

I’m sure we could get some great jungian symbols from that dream!
Don’t forget to that napping is work, too.

Good morning!! This might be a two cup of coffee morning!
I wish you could see me sitting here with a cup of coffee in each hand typing away with a pencil in my teeth.
I just need to figure out a way to drink the coffee without bitting off the erasure?
A pencil in your teeth? Personally, I like cereal with bananas for breakfast.
Yeh, me too. I don’t think I can handle this two cups at a time thing. There’s way too much going on here for early morning. 2 cups of coffee, cereal, pencils, typing, and soonish — I’ve gotta get dressed and go to work.
Unless I just go back to bed.
hmm. That’s an idea.

How DO you become a computer consultant who works at home?
You work for a company in Massachusetts that wants to hire you but knows you won’t move (and couldn’t afford to move from Indiana to MA). I’ve been doing it for 16 years and can’t imagine working any other way.

What 3 systems do you use?
I do all my own system stuff (nobody is coming out here from MA to help me) but that’s not part of what I do for customers.

Good Morning and Good Full Moon to All
Gooserock gets a gold star but he or you should save this for another cafe because this one is barely breathing.
Do you guys mind having marshmallows for breakfast this morning? I’m on deadline, and want to wrap things up before I put up the new cafe…
I’ll even give you some graham crackers and chocolate to go with them…
Actually the thought of something that sweet for breakfast makes me gag. But I’d say things are very quiet this morning and it’s no problem to have a late brunch cafe.
Thanks! (FWIW, I think smores could induce a diabetic coma no matter what time you eat them…)
Just in case the fire starts to die down :
Wondering if someone should put up a transitional Cafe to lure in the lurkers…that fire’s getting kinda smoky…cough cough
I’m heading off to take a nap; spouse’s orders (as he left for work)…
