I have a suggestion, that you define “meal” somewhere in your manifesto. For example, they tell me that I should eat something every couple of hours. But the something can be a few nuts or (in their dreams) carrot sticks.
It is (in my mental manifesto) defined. It’s a regularly scheduled eating event.
For people like me, there can be no more ad hoc eating events. No casual cruising through the kitchen and eating a slice of cheese.
I happen to be a 3 meals a day girl. But, whatever works for each person.
What gives me an extra kick is knowing that once my blood sugar gets down to normal range (within an hour of eating usually) then
I’ll have normal blood sugar for 5 hours until lunch
And then normal blood sugar for 5 hours until dinner
And then nornmal blood sugar for almost 12 hours till breakfast!
It’s the most exciting thing to me. And my HA1c was 5.5 last time. I’m aiming for 5 in January.
But, If my docs wanted me to eat 4 meals I would schedule another one in there somewhere. And not vary
How’s your PN? I looked up alpha lipoic for you…and realized that the bes results were with the intravenous formulation, but they’re looking at the oral version to see if it works too.
My PN marches apace, hence the doubling of the avandamet and gabapentin, and the upgrade from hydro to oxycodone.
I have been taking the alpha lipoic stuff for about a week, and I cannot tell that it is doing anything at all. I will keep taking it though, it is an anti-oxidant, and I suppose that means it is good for old age generally. Maybe it will make me look younger and more dashing 😉
I completely understand both the never having kept control of food. I am one of those people who considers Land o Lakes Whipped Butter instead of Plugra or Amul, or half and half instead of heavy cream as “dramatic steps toward eating healthier.”
And now I have switched to coke zero, tea without sugar, and use I Can’t Believe It Costs More Than Butter.
Also, like you, I have every incentive to do what it takes. Peripheral Neuropathy is no joke. It is what cost your uncle his foot. And whether he told you about it or not, he went through a long time of very serious pain on the way to losing it. And the only way to stop the progress of PN is to get the damn blood sugar under control.
Thank you for your support. At this point, your kindness and patience in listening to me complain about it is a great benefit, and your determination and as Mr Danger would say, Resolve, is an inspiration.
When I say I can’t wait till you get your site up, I am not just being polite. I plan to use it, and if people do not post recipes I will whine and nag until they do.
I’ll get something going by the weekend (before Christmas?), I promise. But, it will probably be baby steps (one of the out-of-the-box sites), nothing like this.
against people with rustic squirrel-powered computers and dial up connections.
I know I like to be prissy and say that I don’t do the 4 thing much because it is several unflattering adjectives, but the secret reason is that once a thread gets to a certain size, the rate all button goes away, and there is also the dial up factor of slowness. And lately, gabapentin brain fog, I just plain forget.
I’ve got an exciting dream, I’ll admit that, but the facts are that you are heaping me with all this praise, and all I’ve actually done is by a url. And wait! Wasn’t it kansas’ idea?
You’ve done a lot more than merely hurl an url, Earl. You have been your own first guinea pig, for one thing, demonstrating the success of your own technique. You’ve also thought about this a lot, and have already helped a few people to get started on it. So there.
One of my dad’s favorites (and he’s not a redneck). But … if its part of a planned meal it should be all right under Katiebird’s plan. Just no fried baloney snacks.
I need to confess something here. Fried baloney is one of my favorite things in the world. In Amish country south of Cleveland, there is a place that is famous for it’s fried baloney sandwiches, which is an enormously thick piece of baloney fried crisp, on a bun with lettuce, tomato etc. But my favorite is just regular old Oscar Mayer baloney (or bologna if you want to be fancy) fried until it looks like bacon, with mustard on wheat bread. I used to feel guilty about eating it until I realized it’s actually lower in fat that regular baloney because you cook much of the fat out of it.
If anyone has lower standards in food I’d like to hear about it, otherwise I’ll declare myself the winner by default.
There was a bar that Jim and I went to when we were living in very German southern Indiana that was famous for its fried baloney sandwiches which they did on the grill topped with a huge slice of onion.
I may be a runner-up, if it’s not time-specific.
As a child I had two favorite meals of which I never, ever tired.
One: warm hot dog, bowl of red vinegar, bowl of white sugar. Dip hot dog in vinegar, sugar, then eat.
Two: pre-cooked pancake mix. Use a soup-spoon.
It just seems like a daily conversation about what people are actually eating, sharing recipes (with nutrition content) and offering subsitute ingredients if appropriate might be a nice feature.
And that brainstorming day a couple of weeks ago, CabinGirl asked about posting recipes.
I’m sure if we go back and check, you’ll find I mentioned it in passing but it wasn’t that big a deal — they just basically reamed my sinuses out with 3/8″ drill. Mostly just uncomfortable with a sore nose and headache that lasted about 6 weeks — though I have to admit that removing the packing was a couple seconds of the most excruciating pain I have ever felt.
Oh I was completely out for the operation and it was quite successful — cut down on infections, runny noses, breathing problems and best of all, I can smell garlic much, much better.
I give up on getting anything accomplished tonight. Serve me up something festive and hot tubby. A Malibu and pineapple juice could make me forget its cold outside.

Newcomers welcome! Please introduce yourself.
Kindly recommend this Cafe & de-recommend the last one.
Free towels, free drinks, free food, freedom rings!
We have 108 members listed at Frappr, but we can do better than
that. If you’re not there already — put yourself on the map!
Katie, Is there a way to replace my awful picture and silly caption? Thanks.
Someone said (months ago when the map was new) that you could only ADD more pictures, but you couldn’t remove them.
I’ve never tried, so I don’t know.
I wish I could remember who it was who said that.
Are any of the Cafe Memories here tonight?
Nice Cafe! Can you drink booze in a virtual hot tub?
I think you can do virtually anything in a virtual hot tub. What’s eat4today.com?
Right now? Just a name.
But, soonish it will be a blog-site for people wanting to cheer each other on in an effort to take control of their food issues.
It stems from my idea of:
Not eating between meals
Not taking seconds
Just today
And do this for a year to see what happens.
Some people might not be ready for such a drastic lifestyle change, but that goal will be an important focus of the site.
Sounds like a great idea — especially for the new year.

I’m still in the probationary member period. I heard the ceremony is really moving, and the AiC beanie has a propellor.
I am envious of your cause and effect certainty. The medical profession joins me in hoping I get there one day.

Ductape, My uncle lost his foot and his life at the age of 63 to Diabetes. I am terrified that it’ll get me.
This just-for-today thing is critical to me because I’ve never kept control of food for extended periods.
But, I can (I have) done it for 1 day. Just today.
That’s all I can really do. If there is any way I can help you, cheer you on, I will do anything.
I completely understand both the never having kept control of food. I am one of those people who considers Land o Lakes Whipped Butter instead of Plugra or Amul, or half and half instead of heavy cream as “dramatic steps toward eating healthier.”

Many congratulations & best of luck on this, katiebird. A wonderful idea! I have a sense that many, many people will be helped by your efforts.
Thanks ww! I hope it becomes useful. I’m sure I’ll make mistakes, but I’m always willing to try new ideas if something doesn’t work the way I expect.
I’m sure this will be a good part of your success. I truly wish you the best on it.
Soon I will be bragging to people — I knew her before she was the master of the good eating universe.
I know! I’m very proud of her. We knew her when.
I’ve got an exciting dream, I’ll admit that, but the facts are that you are heaping me with all this praise, and all I’ve actually done is by a url. And wait! Wasn’t it kansas’ idea?
Yes! Yes it was.
I hope CabinGirl is still interested in contributing recipes. Because I basically live on Kashi Cereal, left-over pizza and chow mein.

🙂 I was just taking the chance to brag about tracking down all the suggestions from that diary a couple of weeks ago.
So you want a bunch of redneck fried baloney recipes?
One of my dad’s favorites (and he’s not a redneck). But … if its part of a planned meal it should be all right under Katiebird’s plan. Just no fried baloney snacks.

I think pork roll with merikan cheese is cool. is that the same as baloney, or a step lower?
Amish? Fried Baloney must be something people of german backgrounds like? My dad has a lot of german in him, that makes sense.
I’m about 3/4 German. I guess that’s a bingo.
I may be a runner-up, if it’s not time-specific.
As a child I had two favorite meals of which I never, ever tired.
One: warm hot dog, bowl of red vinegar, bowl of white sugar. Dip hot dog in vinegar, sugar, then eat.

Uuuuk, indeed.
Ah, I forgot about that possibility. Well, it’s a chance you have to take if you open a blog for comments!
do you really want?

if you need some people to come over and sort of “prime the pump”, I’ll be glad to come and help out.
I’m off to bed. We can continue this in the a.m.
See you in the morning and OF COURSE I’d like you to “prime the pump”.
surgery in August? Did you forget to mention something?
I’m sure if we go back and check, you’ll find I mentioned it in passing but it wasn’t that big a deal — they just basically reamed my sinuses out with 3/8″ drill. Mostly just uncomfortable with a sore nose and headache that lasted about 6 weeks — though I have to admit that removing the packing was a couple seconds of the most excruciating pain I have ever felt.
wasn’t that big a deal — they just basically reamed my sinuses out with 3/8″ drill.
Oh yeah. No big deal. Ick.
(((shudder)))
My brain is vibrating. {{(())}}
Did it help? Was it for sinus infections? And today was a follow-up to that?
Did the operation at least relieve your suffering?
Oh I was completely out for the operation and it was quite successful — cut down on infections, runny noses, breathing problems and best of all, I can smell garlic much, much better.
Thanks for the concern.
I’m glad to hear this. My father has suffered sinus problems all his life. But, he’s always refused to consider having that done.
I had polyps nearly filling every sinus cavity. There wasn’t much choice.
Oh and CG and I are talking to you in the late night cafe.
How about a nice yummy tang sandwich?
Consider yourself pelted with cupcakes. Little Debbies ones.
I give up on getting anything accomplished tonight. Serve me up something festive and hot tubby. A Malibu and pineapple juice could make me forget its cold outside.
Oooooh, a hot tub. That sounds perfect for this evening!
Question… are the dirty towels free?
Yes, but you have to move the cat yourself!!
lol! My cats are so sick of winter.
I do not understand how the little animals with naked paws survive. I feel so bad for them.
We made little tiny slippers for Digby his last out-door winter. But he always chewed off the little ribbons that held them on.
Tee-hee. Great… dripping wet and furry towels. Sounds just like home! (Except it’s my doggie’s hairs that are everywhere).
< Splash > I’m in the hot tub, but I’ve got nothing on so nobody peek please. Can I have an umbrella drink?
How big an umbrella you need, sailor?
Umm, make it a triple. < blushes >
<grins>
Kansas, yer really the “straight man” tonight…:{)
Don’t have an umbrella, but you can borrow my sombreros:
Here ya go b2, don’t get’em wet
Peace
I promise not to get them wet but I will have to swap the places they cover. (Did I really just write that on the internet?)
Thinkin’ with the little head, huh?
Peace
must have been a very, very conservative Jew.
May I just say, guffaw.
Well, folks,
‘I really can’t stay

What to do?
please go recommend that diary!
if those assholes keep this up they’re going to really piss me off one of these days.
We’ve opened a new Cafe!
