I need a change of pace, maybe this diary will be welcomed today.
I found this article on Raw Story today.
Science reveals what makes Darren Gough a sexy dancer-
Charles Darwin was the first to suggest that the universal human need to dance is part of an evolutionary phenomenon known as sexual selection – when individuals choose mates on the basis of some measure of physical attractiveness.
Now scientists have produced the first real evidence to show that dancing is indeed linked to physical well-being and that women in particular use performance on the dance floor as an indication of genetic superiority.
Looking back I always preferred a man who could dance and related that if He could dance he’d be good in bed. Most of the time I was right. LOL!!
I hope you all dance. Have a Merry Christmas and Let’s dance the night away. Save the last dance for me…
Know any other ‘dance’ song titles?
Yes Rosie, if they can dance they can move in mysterious ways in other areas. I LOVE to dance and if I do say so myself, I am quite good at it.
“Dancing in the Streets” is what we all should be doing!
I’ve been married for 34 years and dated my husband for two years before we married and I’ve never danced with him because he doesn’t like to dance. OTOH, I never wanted kids. So maybe we were a perfection evolutionary match.
Searching on http://www.allmusic.com for songs with dance in the title, I got 75 hits with these being the top 10 in terms of number of recordings with that title.

Moondance by Van Morrison…great rhythm, great lyrics, and his voice just makes me melt… 🙂
Oooh, yes. How about Bruce Springsteen ‘Dancing in the Dark?’
My fave is Bob Dylan: “Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free”
Both of those are longtime favorites.
I always had a special state of mind listening to just about anything Stevie Nicks did and Fleetwood Mac in general were dance bait.
Oh my…yes if they can dance they are good at other things as well!
Although in defense of men – most I’ve met are good dancers when you get them started. They are just self-concious and need encouragement!
A tribute to my sweetie this morning
– Our favorite dance…West Coast Swing
– “Our song”…Proud Mary (Tina Turner version preferred)
So let’s all dance!
overgeneralize. There are men who don’t dance who have perfectly good moves in other ways. It’s the attitude, not the rhythm.
song is the sexiest!
Makes me remember the Disco era and hot pants.
I need to think of this now as I am feeling so old today 🙁
I’ll be feeling old shortly!
And I remember freezing my butt (literally!) when wearing hot pants and boots to a New Year’s Eve party in Utah in the early 70’s! Temperature was like 25 degrees the outfit however – black suede for both – it was HOT!
I learned and bought a longer coat!
Hey, at least we survived long enough to be both outraged by Cat Stevens being denied entry to the US and not shocked to see Elton John get married.
When I met my first husband I was young- 18 – and ‘unaware’ of the can he dance nuances and at our wedding -the first time we danced- he did the ‘Freddy” remember that one.?
Well he’s about 6’4″ and our reception was in a church basement and the ceilings were low. He hurt himself LOL!! (I was so embarrassed LMAO!)
Great Diary. I saw that story last night at Raw Story and thought the same thing. Thanks.
Music is an optional enhancement for the dancing and helps define the experience. Everything from goofy fun to a spiritual, or near so experience. I think sometimes I might be the only one that hears it and that draws odd looks from folks.
I have to second the vote for Moondance
From “The Great Cosmic Mother” by Monica Sjoo and Barbara Mor:
To return to harmony – to return to the Goddess, to become lovers of the Goddess once again – we must realign our gestures into those of dancers. We must become beings who do not wish to control life, but only to listen to its music, and dance it.
And as for great dance music – it really depends on whether we’re talking about a slow romantic dance or a booty shakin kind of thing. For slow romance, I’d pick most anything by Van Morrison (ie “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”) and for booty shakin, I’d have to go with “Shake Your Groove Thing” by Peaches and Herb (much to my embarassment!)
My anthem is the Commodore’s “Brick House” and if I hear it I drop everything and shake that thang. A couple weeks ago I was somewhere in a professional context and heard it on someone’s radio in the background so I grooved in a subtle way. The people I was with were so engrossed in their own importance they didn’t even notice! Either that or they think I’ve got palsy of some sort.
The oddest place I’ve ever danced to it was during kitchen duty in a monastery in Japan with another American who knew all the words. Man did those dishes get clean!
What’s really funny is that I’m built more like a fireplug than a brick house but of course I grow several inches when I hear the song.
My pick for most romantic song would be “Moondance” or Bob Marley’s “Is This Love?”
Heretofore overlooked: “Do you want to funk”. (Yes, a dance song without “dance” in the title.) My wife might add: “It’s raining men.”
Man I want to dance now! “Moondance” an all time fav and “Brickhouse” is one that I loooooooove to get down and dirty to. Oh yeah! If we do have a meetup sometime next year we MUST have a dance night.
Wonder if the converse is true as well? It’d certainly explain a few things…
(I can say from experience that there doesn’t seem to be any logical connection for women. I’ve known several VERY good dancers, and, well… )
